  1. Pak 78-2published at 21 overs

    Target 220

Wayne Parnell continues. Hafeez's drive through the off is worth two.

Parnell gets one to move away inviting a play and a miss. Then a carbon copy in the last delivery.

Pakistan need 142 more from 29 overs - if we get that far.

Thanks, Marc. I'm not sure if I'm bringing the rain with me or not. It looks gloomy.

But even if it does rain now, we will have a result today!

  3. Pak 75-2published at 20 overs

    Target 220

That could be the match if the rain comes now. A wicket might have put South Africa back in control DLS-wise.

Anyhow, we have reached the 20th over mark so we will get a result today - one way or the other.

Here's Kal Sajad to see it through to the conclusion.

  4. Not outpublished at 19.2 overs

    Pak 74-2

It was pad first, then bat. So we go to ball tracking but we're told the ball was going to bounce over the stumps.

I tell you what, it looked closer than the ball tracking technology made it out to be.

There was a big stride from the batsman. At full speed I don't think it could be given, it didn't quite look right to me.

  6. Umpire reviewpublished at 19.2 overs

    Pak 74-2

Imran Tahir pins Babar in front. Looks out. The umpire says no. Quinton de Kock thinks there is bat. AB reviews it.

That has got Pakistan fans dancing in the aisles of Edgbaston.

  8. Pak 72-2published at 19 overs

    Morris 5-1-22-0

Imran Tahir does everything with a flourish. He fields the ball at third man and does a pirouette. The type of bloke who cuts stripes into his lawn.

Later in the over, he hares round to square of the wicket to deny Pakistan a boundary with a diving stop. So violent was the dive, his hand warmers fell from his trouser pocket. It could've been worse.

As the groundsman's team ready on the boundary, Babar hooks a four. Pakistan are in control if this gets called off in an over or so.

  10. Pak 62-2published at 18 overs

    Target 220

Imran Tahir seems to be bowling a little flatter today - he appears to be more about stopping runs than taking wickets. He's booed when he appeals for a caught behind of Babar. Instead the noise was the bat hitting the ground. Let's move on.

Morne Morkel? I would have sold my grandmother to have never faced him again.

  12. Pak 61-2published at 17 overs

    Target 220

If you're just joining us, let me treat you to a clip of fine fast bowling. If you've seen it already, watch it again. It's good.

In the meantime, the cricket slowly moves on - Babar making a few hearts flutter in the Pakistan changing room when he edges the first ball after drinks towards slip. It falls just short.

Ralph Brooker: Pakistani batsmen want the required rate it up at 10 an over. That must be it? Extraordinary sequence of Dorothys.

  14. Pak 58-2published at 16 overs

    Target 220

Here comes Imran Tahir. He was born in Lahore, so this game will mean a lot to the Proteas leggie. Pakistan keep things simple with the odd single. It's as if the threat of rain has stymied their ambition.

Pakistan are digging themselves a hole. Hafeez has been two slow. They need to stay well ahead of the rate.

  16. Pak 57-2published at 15 overs

    Hafeez 9, Babar 5

AB de Villiers could show more aggression here. Set a Test match-like field with loads of close catches. Wickets are better if Duckworth, Lewis and Stern get involved and, if a full game does develop, Pakistan will win if it goes the distance. Saving runs shouldn't be a priority. Taking wickets should.

Chris Morris is bowling a similarly aggressive line and length to Morne Morkel and Hafeez is late on a hook shot. Two singles from the over.

Here's a scenario, Pakistan are 70-2 and 19.1 overs have been bowled and the rain is starting to fall. South Africa then bowl wide after wide after wide until the rain comes. They're taken off and the game is abandoned.

  18. Pak 55-2published at 14 overs

    Target 220

I'm told it's going to rain at 19:16 BST. Nothing like a precise forecast, eh?

Pakistan need to get 20 overs in. It'd suit South Africa if they didn't.

Morne Morkel is bowling fast. He's not lost any of his zip in his 33rd year as he sends Babar ducking for cover. Another tidy over sees just two runs chipped from the target. Those floodlights are shining ever brighter now.

It's not a good over from Morris. He's been wide and straight, struggled with his line. When will AB use Tahir? Will he give Morkel one more?

  20. Pak 53-2published at 13 overs

    Target 220

Hafeez, in his 187th ODI, toys with South Africa by poking four to the third man boundary - finding the only gap in a heavily-packed off side field. There's a man on the drive tempting the big booming shot through cover.

Meanwhile, South Africa skipper AB de Villiers looks at a scrap of paper he's pulled from his pocket. DLS calculations?
