  1. 6 runs

    Ind 297-5published at 48 overs

    Dhoni 56, Jadhav 8

That's outta here! Yet again it's a low full toss that is punished, Dhoni picking it up straight away and swinging the ball high over mid-wicket and into the stands.

Two overs of carnage to come...

  2. 50 runs

FIFTY FOR DHONIpublished at 47.3 overs

    Ind 290-5

This is MS Dhoni's 62nd ODI half-century. Mind-boggling numbers. This one takes him just 46 balls.

The former captain takes a single off Perera to bring it up.

Sri Lanka are going to be 20 minutes late again with their overs. This could be very serious.

Upul Tharanga is suspended for today's match after Sri Lanka were late bowling their 50 overs in their first match of the tournament when he stood in for captain Angelo Mathews.

It was six and out from Pandya just now. What a belting six it was though...

  5. Ind 289-5published at 47 overs

    Dhoni 49, Jadhav 7

Pradeep to bowl his final over, it's been a mixed bag from the seamer today.

New man Kedar Jadhav gets off the mark and then looks to free his arms with a cut shot but Lakmal does well, diving at backward point to prevent another boundary.

A horrible ball to finish though, well down leg and Jadhav follows it to flick it beyond the forlorn dive of wicketkeeper Dickwella.

Spoiled a good over that, nine from it.

India's big hitters are lining up to wallop the ball now - but only after opener Shikhar Dhawan had fallen on his sword. This was a good catch by Kusal Mendis.

  7. Ind 280-5published at 46 overs

    Dhoni 48, Jadhav 0

India scored 10 off the over but Lakmal has actually done pretty well to restrict it to just that, finishing up with a couple of well-placed full, slower balls outside off.

He got a good piece of it but it got caught in the wind and was pouched by extra cover.

  9. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 45.4 overs

    Pandya c K Perera b Lakmal 9 (Ind 278-5)

    Not this time.

Pandya tries to go over extra cover but only finds the safe hands of Kusal Perera.

  10. 6 runs

    Ind 278-4published at 45.3 overs

BANG! Hardik Pandya makes no mistake, battering a low full toss over the mid-wicket fence for six.

    India are going along beautifully.

I am just waiting for Dhoni to cut loose. He has got five overs and will be thinking 50 off those five overs.

  12. M(eaty) S(hot) Dhonipublished at 13:55 British Summer Time 8 June 2017

MS Dhoni has scored 45 off 38 balls so far. His innings is likely to get even more violent as we enter the final five overs.

  13. Ind 270-4published at 45 overs

    Dhoni 45, Pandya 3

The next man in is Hardik Pandya, who hit 20 off six balls against Pakistan. India would love him to go big again here.

They'll settle for Dhoni too though, as he flicks a wide one down through fine leg for four.

Malinga responds to 'only' concede another five runs off the over.

Into the final five overs - fireworks to follow? India will want at least 60 off them.

  14. How's stat?!published at 13:52 British Summer Time 8 June 2017

Shikhar Dhawan's last five scores against Sri Lanka are 94, 113, 79, 91 and 125. Bunnies!

That is A) a very good innings.

But B) I don't think India will be too disappointed with players who are used to hitting to come.

  16. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 44.1 overs

    Dhawan c Mendis b Malinga 125 (Ind 261-4)

No mistake this time...just as I post a clip of him being dropped, Dhawan holes out.

Malinga does well, forcing a full delivery just wide enough that Dhawan has to reach for, not getting enough on the shot and skying it straight to Kusal Mendis a long on.

A superb innings of 125 off 128 balls comes to an end. Plenty of power hitting to come though...

  17. Postpublished at 13:49 British Summer Time 8 June 2017

Dhawan should perhaps be back in the hutch though - here's that Gunathilaka drop...

  18. Ind 261-3published at 44 overs

Lakmal tries to go to the wide yorker but strays too wide a couple of times to concede the extras.

Bad error, Dhoni smashes the third valid delivery of the over through the covers.

Dhawan then tries to be too cute with a ramp shot to a full delivery and misses before flaying another wide one down leg side away for just a single.

It feels like India have been all over Sri Lanka but if the bowlers have a good last few overs then they could keep them below 300 and walk off pleased and think 'we can knock these off'.

  20. Postpublished at 13:43 British Summer Time 8 June 2017

So what do we reckon India will get from here? 330 maybe? More? Less?

They'll need some more shots like this one from Dhawan...
