  1. Aus 242-5published at 43 overs

    Wood 8-1-29-3

Liam Plunkett will have breathed a sigh of relief when Roy took that. We won't be focusing on his dropped catch now. Eventful over.

Matthew Wade the new man in.

That is outstanding. That is the sort of catch that was unheard of only four or five years ago. That is one of the ways cricket has been transformed.

The skill and composure of Jason Roy, to be able to jump, catch the ball then know he was off balance. It is not a fluke. These boys practice it every single day in training. You see it happen more and more. It's a phenomenal bit of skill.

    Maxwell c Roy b Wood 20 (Aus 239-5)

Yep, all good. It was just a brilliant, brilliant piece of fielding.

The timing of the wicket is great for England, Maxwell looked like he was getting his eye in.

  5. Umpire reviewpublished at 42.2 overs

What. A. Catch. Maxwell strikes it well, Roy at deep mid-wicket, arms up high, catches it with both hands, his momentum taking him over the ropes. He throws it in the air, does a hopscotch over the boundary and back and then takes it.

I think it's a clean catch but we will wait and see.

Plunkett should have caught that. It was hit hard off the back foot, but it was a comfortable height. He seemed to have it but it popped out. Plunkett is furious with himself. They would have loved to have get rid of Maxwell.

  7. dropped catch

Maxwell dropped on 20published at 42.1 overs

It's all happening. Maxwell slaps a short one off Wood straight to Plunkett at cover. It's hit hard but is dropped. A direct hit from Plunkett nearly forces a run-out.

  8. Aus 239-4published at 42 overs

    Rashid 8-1-34-1

Poor bowling. Poor batting. Poor fielding. Rashid bowls full and wide, Head could have gone big but doesn't connect well, Morgan lets it go through his hands at cover. They run two.

No boundaries but Head and Maxwell finding the gaps. Eight from the over.

When a batsman knows where the ball is going to be, it makes it so much easier to play. It certainly makes it easier for the batsman when you telegraph where you're going to bowl it, and Ball has done that with this field. I'd be looking for a little more surprise.

  10. Aus 231-4published at 41 overs

Ball grunts like a tennis player on release but Head pivots on the spot and pulls him for four.

Keeping with the theme of tennis, Head, with hands above shoulder height, smashes a short one square for another boundary.

Eleven from the over, a good one for Australia. These two have done very well since their captain's departure.

  12. Aus 220-4published at 40 overs

    Head 26, Maxwell 18

The intent continues from Maxwell. Eight runs an over from here and they reach 300.

Strong bottom hand, he opens the face of the bat and drills one to the boundary. A tremendous strike.

Not too dissimilar to this one from earlier ...

The floodlights have come on here. It's a little bit gloomy but there's no real problems.

  14. Aus 211-4published at 39 overs

Glenn Maxwell is ready now - he wants to tee off. A big golf swing but there is plenty of daylight between bat and ball and it goes through to Buttler behind the stumps.

Another good over if you're an England fan, just six from it.

It's dark and gloomy out there. Remember there is some rain forecast but not until about 17:00 BST.

That was the first boundary off England's spinners today. Before that, they had bowled 10.4 overs between them that had gone for 35 runs.

  16. Aus 205-4published at 38 overs

Short from Moeen and Maxwell laps it up, clonked square for four.

England have been decent in the field today and Alex Hales continues that trend. Hit firm and hard from Maxwell and Hales saves a boundary with a dive at mid-on.

  18. Aus 197-4published at 37 overs

Jake Ball returns and straight away gets one to cut back into the body of Travis Head. Bowling around the wicket to the lefties, the next one is a bit wider from Ball and Head pulls, steering it to wide long-on for a couple.

Still no Maxwell fireworks but we know what he can do.

How important will these Moeen Ali overs be to England? The Australian pair looking to give themselves some room and work it through the gaps but are restricted to just three from the over.
