Australia, meanwhile, have spent a lot of time getting acquainted with the different types of rain that the UK has to offer.

When they have manged to get on the square, their seam bowlers have been on form: Josh Hazlewood claimed 6-52 against New Zealand and Mitch Starc was superb against the Bangladesh tail, taking four wickets in nine balls.

In their opening match the rain arrived at the ideal time for Australia: they'd been reduced to 53-3 by the Black Caps quicks.

Chasing 182 against Bangladesh, Australia were cruising at 83-1 before the rain arrived after 16 overs - four short of the number needed for a result.

England have been walking around with the bookies' favourite tag attached to them, and they've lived up to it.

A nervy bowling performance against Bangladesh was cancelled out by a controlled run chase, led by an unbeaten 133 from Joe Root, to ensure they reached their target with 16 balls remaining.

There was a slight blip against New Zealand, England's batting temporarily stifled, but Jos Buttler's big hitting ensured they set a commanding 310.

Then the seamers struck. Using their whole bag of tricks, England dislodged captain Kane Williamson when New Zealand were cruising, and the rest of the team followed as they were bowled out for 223.

BBC Weather's Steve Cleaton: "It will be mainly cloudy and dry at first, with the possibility of some brighter spells at times, turning cloudier as the afternoon progresses with the possibility of light issues towards tea time and onwards. Rain then threatens to spread from the west and is expected to arrive by early evening. There will be moderate southwesterly winds of around 15mph with an afternoon high of 19 degrees."

Much like Australia must be, I'm tired of watching it rain. So how's the forecast looking?

  5. 'A magnificent piece of history for Bangladesh'published at 09:52 British Summer Time 10 June 2017

Let's just have a recap of last night's stonking performance from Bangladesh.

Set 266 to win, courtesy of another New Zealand batting collapse, the Tigers were reduced to 12-3 by a superb bit of swing bowling from Tim Southee.

When Mushfiqur fell shortly after, it looked as though the total would be beyond Bangladesh.

However, a historic stand of 224 between Shakib (114) and Mahmudullah (102 not out) - the first stand of 200+ in Bangladesh's ODI history - saw them home with five wickets to spare.

Hello! It's the big one today, England v Australia. A chance to lay down a pre-Ashes marker, of sorts. Here's the permutations for today:

England are through to the semi-finals, no matter what. If Englandwin then Bangladesh will go through.

If Australia win, they will go through. If it's a tie or a washout, then Bangladesh will go through.

England find themselves in an unusual position today.

They're already through to the Champions Trophy semi-finals, which is a cause for celebration...

And, with another win today, they could send Australia out of the competition.

For Australia, who haven't completed a game yet thanks to the pesky weather, it's all or nothing.
