  1. Majestic Northeast makes Sussex paypublished at 14:48 British Summer Time 16 April 2017

    Sussex 291 v Kent 304 & 285-5

    Adam Whitty
    BBC Radio Kent at Hove

'Leading by example' could be on the Northeast family crest.

When Kent needed some aggressive, proactive strokeplay this morning to build a big lead over Sussex, their skipper was there for them.

He scored 1,337 runs last season in the Championship, and if he continues this form he could be on track for something similar - if of course, England don't snap him up first.

Northeast has stayed strong while two quick wickets have somewhat halted the Kent charge, Dickson and Gidman both falling quickly.

But Kent still have their noses infront.

Sam Northeast reaches his century off just 123 balls for Kent as the visitors continue to pile on the runs at Hove.

The 27-year-old has been in and around the England set up for a little while now and the Kent faithful are certainly convinced he should be given a chance to show his abilities.

    Surrey 230-6 v Lancashire 470

Well, Surrey all of a sudden are wobbling at The Oval.

Dominic Sibley is the victim of a run out from a sub Lancashire fielder as he and Zafar Ansari get in a tangle off Simon Kerrigan's bowling.

In comes Sam Curran now with plenty to do.

  7. Village actionpublished at 14:30 British Summer Time 16 April 2017

Might be overcast skies and a slight chill wind in Berkshire, but there is cricket action taking place in the grounds of BBC premises.

The hosts are bowling in their opening fixture of the season against Richmond Nomads and club member Adam Williams managed to claim a wicket as he went outside to watch a few overs on his lunch break.

    Gloucestershire 466-8 v Leicestershire 259 & 37-4

    Bob Hunt
    BBC Radio Gloucestershire at Bristol

It's deja vu all over again at Bristol.

Asked to follow on by the home side, Leicestershire lost their first three batsmen for 21, just like on day two.

Liam Norwell dismissed Harry Dearden and Neil Dexter - with both caught at slip by Cameron Bancroft - before bowling Mark Pettini for a single.

David Payne took the first wicket, with Phil Mustard holding on to a rising delivery to dismiss Paul Horton for six.

Leicestershire's captain isn't a man to engage in friendly chat at the moment; Mark Cosgrove is visibly frustrated out there as the wickets tumble, yet again, around him.

  9. Kerrigan grabs a scalppublished at 14:24 British Summer Time 16 April 2017

    Surrey 229-5 v Lancashire 470

Wicket time at The Oval after lunch where, on the ground where he made his solitary Test appearance to date, Lancashire spinner Simon Kerrigan makes a breakthrough.

He bowls Ben Foakes for just nine and now Surrey face a bit of work to do to keep themselves in it.

  10. Cook leads Essex past 150published at 14:24 British Summer Time 16 April 2017

    Somerset 209 & 174 v Essex 129 & 151-1

Alastair Cook's 82nd run brings up Essex's 150 at Taunton as the visitors continue to plod along with ease.

The Essex opener is being ably assisted by Tom Westly, who is 25 not out off 42 balls.

The visitors need another 104 for an impressive victory.

    WICKET McManus (c Simpson b Roland-Jones) 8published at 14:21 British Summer Time 16 April 2017

    Hampshire 346-7 v Middlesex 356

Plenty of action going on at The Ageas Bowl as the two sides move towards almost parity on first innings.

Lewis McManus falls to a neatly taken catch by his opposite number John Simpson off Toby Roland-Jones.

    Hampshire 344-6 v Middlesex 356

And there is Rilee Rossouw's half-century, brought up with a drive through the covers off Tim Murtagh.

That's come from 77 balls with nine fours.

    Rilee RossouwImage source, Rex Features

It's been a torrid game for Hampshire's Rilee Rossouw.

He chipped a bone in one of the fingers of his left hand while fielding on the first day and now, while batting, he has been going through the pain parrier.

He takes a blow on his bottom hand from a Tim Murtagh delivery, but is soldiering on and is just a run short of a half-century.

  14. Dickson goes but Kent press onpublished at 14:17 British Summer Time 16 April 2017

    Sussex 291 v Kent 304 & 243-4

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex at Hove

Sean Dickson (89) gets a low one and he falls leg before to Ajmal Shahzad, who takes his third wicket of the innings for Sussex.

Partnership of 123 in 32 overs with his skipper Sam Northeast from Dickson, who is still there on 82.

    Kent lead now 256.

  15. Are Warwickshire relegation prospects?published at 14:15 British Summer Time 16 April 2017

  16. When it rains, it pourspublished at 14:13 British Summer Time 16 April 2017

So that's three games which have succumbed to rain for the time being, with Durham and Nottinghamshire yet to return from their early lunch.

Meanwhile, Leicestershire will be praying for a typical April day in Bristol as they're 23-3 following on against Gloucestershire - still trailing by 184 runs.

  17. rain stops play

Rain arrives too late for Bellpublished at 14:11 British Summer Time 16 April 2017

    Warwickshire 178 & 5-3 v Yorkshire 381

    Stephan Shemilt
    BBC Sport at Edgbaston

Only the rain can save Warwickshire now, but it arrives a ball too late for Ian Bell, who is the latest to fall to some wonderful Yorkshire new-ball bowling.

The heavy, dark conditions are more than helpful, but David Willey and Ben Coad have exploited them to the maximum. They are swinging it around corners.

As for the Bears, when trying to avoid a second successive innings defeat is your primary aim, the situation is dire. What odds on them being relegated?

  18. wicket

WICKET Bell (c Bresnan b Coad) 1published at 14:06 British Summer Time 16 April 2017

    Warwickshire 178 & 5-3 v Yorkshire 381

Warwickshire are clearly batting on a completely different pitch to the one Yorkshire were in the first session as Ian Bell becomes the third for the hosts to depart.

Bell gloves the increasingly impressive Ben Coad to Tim Bresnan at first slip just before the rain arrives and the players troop off.

The weather is the only possible saviour for Warwickshire now.

  19. Essex racing along at Tauntonpublished at 14:04 British Summer Time 16 April 2017

    Somerset 209 & 174 v Essex 129 & 133-1

Alastair Cook and Tom WestleyImage source, Rex Features

32 runs have been added by Alastair Cook and Tom Westley in the 20 minutes after lunch.

Things are getting slightly desperate for Somerset, especially with Cook looking in total control on 69.

  20. Dickson departs short of tonpublished at 14:02 British Summer Time 16 April 2017

    Sussex 291 v Kent 304 & 235-4

Kent batsman Sean Dickson misses out on a well-deserved century down at Hove in Division Two as he's dismissed for 89.

Ajmal Shahzad traps him leg before but Kent still have an impressive lead of 248 with six wickets still in hand.
