  1. Rain delays restart at Derbyshirepublished at 13:57 British Summer Time 16 April 2017

    Derbyshire 281 & 38-0 v Northamptonshire 307

There is a delay at Derby with the groundstaff covering the ground in anticipation of some rain. Hopefully it will blow over quickly because this game is very well set up.

Northants failed to strike before lunch as Derbyshire began their second innings but probed away well and conceded just 38 runs in 22 overs so the hosts lead by just 12 with five sessions of the game remaining.

Fingers crossed the weather will clear and the contest can resume.

  2. wicket

    Hampshire 326-6 v Middlesex 356

    Kyle AbbottImage source, Rex Features

Breakthrough after lunch for Middlesex as half-centurion Kyle Abbott gets a rising one off a length from Toby Roland-Jones.

Comes off his glove and Ollie Rayner takes the simple catch at first slip. End of a handy 80-run partnership between Abbott and Rilee Rossouw.

  3. Gloucestershire invoke follow onpublished at 13:53 British Summer Time 16 April 2017

    Gloucestershire 466-8 v Leicestershire 259 & 10-0

    Bob Hunt
    BBC Radio Gloucestershire

Leicestershire, despite losing Clint McKay to the second ball of the day, made life tricky for the home side's bowlers as they edged ever nearer to reaching the follow on target.

It all changed when Ned Eckersley inexplicably threw his wicket away after reaching a superb 88.

Eckersley took the visitors within 57 of avoiding the follow on in Bristol before playing all round a Liam Norwell delivery, after which the innings subsided quickly.

The Gloucestershire coaches must have thought long and hard about subjecting their bowlers to another long session in the field, but they mad a positive move, and put the visitors in again.

  4. Postpublished at 13:52 British Summer Time 16 April 2017

What a start after lunch! We waited almost 50 minutes for a wicket in the first session today but Warwickshire have made a mess of the start of their second innings.

  5. wicket

Willey dismissed Trott for a golden duckpublished at 13:49 British Summer Time 16 April 2017

    Warwickshire 178 & 4-2 v Yorkshire 381

David WIlley strikes with his very next ball as Jonathan Trott falls for a golden duck after being trapped plumb infront from an inswinging delivery.

The Yorkshire fast bowler will be on a hat-trick with the first ball of his next over.

  6. wicket

WICKET Mellor (c Bresnan b Willey) 0published at 13:45 British Summer Time 16 April 2017

    Warwickshire 178 & 4-1 v Yorkshire 381

My oh my! The worst possible start for Warwickshire after lunch.

David Willey gets Alex Mellor to nibble at a ball outside his off stump and Tim Bresnan takes a simple catch at first slip.

As Stephan said, that cloud cover is the opposite of what the hosts would have wanted at Edgbaston.

  7. Gloom sets in at Edgbastonpublished at 13:44 British Summer Time 16 April 2017

    Warwickshire 178 & 4-0 v Yorkshire 381

    Stephan Shemilt
    BBC Sport at Edgbaston

The covers have been on during the lunch break, but are being removed in time for play to begin on schedule.

Still, in remains dark and dank, the floodlights illuminate a gloom that rests over Birmingham. In short, it is not a time to be batting.

Not great if you've already been bowled out for 91 and 178 this season and find yourselves 203 behind on first innings.

A morning for the purist and one to warm the cockles of your heart on Easter Sunday.

Rory Burns and Kumar Sangakkara played extremely well against a Lancashire attack that bowled with great discipline and intelligence.

Both Surrey batsmen were patience personified and it looked as if they had unpicked the visitors' tactics.

But Burns then got a good one from Kyle Jarvis and was caught behind for 91 and Sangakkara then followed off Stephen Parry for 46.

Lancashire's patience had finally paid off and Surrey go to lunch with work to do this afternoon.

We're under way at most our games again after lunch.

Rain brings an early lunch at Chester-le-Streetpublished at 13:28 British Summer Time 16 April 2017

    Durham 162 & 201-7 v Nottinghamshire 305

Durham are hanging on by the skin of their teeth but the weather has intervened once again and the players troop off for an earlier lunch than expected.

Keaton Jennings remains the hosts best hope, having moved on 82 not out, but Nottinghamshire bowler Jake Ball (3-70) has looked brilliant in the curtailed session.

The visitors will be looking to mop up the Durham tail quickly once the weather improves.

    Sussex 291 v Kent 304 & 213-3

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex at Hove

A very good morning for Kent who added 131 at a brisk rate to reach lunch with a lead of 226.

Sean Dickson on 83 and Sam Northeast 66 have added an unbroken century partnership for the fourth wicket, with Northeast in particular looking in imperious form, two sumptuous on drives being the shots of the morning.

Kent will have half an eye on the weather with rain forecast for later in the day, whilst the Sussex attack has been weakened by the absence of Vernon Philander, who is having a scan in London on a groin injury.

  17. The pitch has gone to sleep!published at 13:23 British Summer Time 16 April 2017

    Somerset 209 & 174 v Essex 129 & 101-1

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Somerset at Taunton

    Nick BrowneImage source, Rex Features

The pitch has gone to sleep! It has played this morning as if someone sprayed chloroform on it overnight.

Apart from the occasional ball, there's been precious little turn for the Somerset slow left-armers, Jack Leach and Roelof van der Merwe, who have toiled manfully, to little effect.

Alastair Cook (56 not out) has gone serenely on his way, well supported by Nick Browne (35) until the latter chased a wide one from Jamie Overton.

As things stand, Essex are on course for victory, but could there be one final twist?

  18. Close contest at Derbypublished at 13:21 British Summer Time 16 April 2017

    Derbyshire 281 & 38-0 v Northamptonshire 307

    Dave Fletcher
    BBC Radio Derby Sport

It's evenly poised in Derbyshire where the home side have a slender 12-run lead over Northamptonshire.

The visitors were dismissed for 307 this morning when Max Holden was last man out for a career-best 76.

Openers Billy Godleman (11) and Luis Reece (26) got through to lunch unscathed to leave the hosts 38 without loss.

  19. Lunch at The Ovalpublished at 13:20 British Summer Time 16 April 2017

Interval time at The Oval where they've been making up for some lost time on the first day.

Surrey have lost a couple of wickets in the morning session and still trail Lancashire by 246 runs.

  20. Worcestershire beat Glamorgan by eight wicketspublished at 13:13 British Summer Time 16 April 2017
    Breaking

All over in time for lunch in Cardiff where Glamorgan have slumped to an second successive defeat of the season.

Worcestershire lost a couple of early wickets chasing just 28, but it's all done and dusted now in the Welsh capital.
