Still a delayed start up at Chester-le-Street due to rain, but the team have had a visit from a very special guest.

New Durham chairman Sir Ian Botham has been in for a chat with Martin Emmerson of BBC Newcastle.

Adil Radhid has wasted no time in reaching his half-century at Edgbaston this morning.

The spinner hit eight fours as his 50 came off 66 balls, as Yorkshire's tail continue to highlight just how poor Warwickshire's batting was on day one.

Ignore the cricketing action, that is merely incidental. Focus instead on the clouds that arrive from the west of Edgbaston, over that white tower block that looks as if it could house the lair of a super-villian.

The threat of rain has receded for now, but our eyes will regularly turn skyward, watching for the bad weather that lurks like a shadow.

Rain or no rain? It might not even matter to Yorkshire, who will soon be thinking about winning this match by an innings.

  5. Gloomy morning in Chester-le-Streetpublished at 11:20 British Summer Time 16 April 2017

    Durham 162 & 162-5 v Nottinghamshire 305

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Newcastle at Chester-le-Street

Looking out of the window, it's actually difficult to see the drizzle but it's there and the covers are on.

The sky is grey and the cloud base high, but the weather seems to have filled in around us and the forecast suggests it could be like this for most of the day, which is a pity.

Nottinghamshire are in a position of strength with Durham just 19 runs ahead at 162-5 in their second innings. But when will they get the chance to try and push home their advantage?

Both matches between the two were affected by the weather last season and ended in draws, something the Notts players certainly won't want to think about at the moment.

It's a one act drama on a crisp sunny morning at Taunton with Essex looking for 255 to register their first win back in the top flight.

Alastair Cook continues to look in great form with two early boundaries but has just survived a big lbw shout from Craig Overton.

Neither side batted well yesterday on a two paced pitch but Essex, if they bat closer to their potential and with a long line up, have the ability to get these runs.

  8. McKay bowled first ballpublished at 11:10 British Summer Time 16 April 2017

    Gloucestershire 446-7d v Leicestershire 166-7

Clint McKay will not be wanting to watch of replay of his wicket as the Leicestershire bowler leaves the first ball of the day and see's his off stump uprooted by Liam Norwell.

Not the kind of start to Easter Day the visitors would have been hoping for in Bristol.

If you're planning to bring any Easter eggs with you to Hove this afternoon, I'd keep them firmly in the shade.

It's a sumptuous third day here at Hove, the setting for a fabulously poised first-class match between these two exciting Division Two sides.

You just can't take your eye off it.

Just in case you were unsure where this game was being played, there are deck chairs in the stands...

Kent left the field at stumps yesterday 82-2 in their second innings, losing Joe Denly just before the close.

Sean Dickson and nightwatchman James Tredwell will look to extend the visitors 95-run lead today.

Sussex have a depleted seam attack, with South African Vernon Philander out of the second innings with a groin injury.

Ajmal Shahzad, David Wiese and Jofra Archer (who took just the seven wickets in the first innings), will therefore have to do most of the heavy lifting.

  16. Carberry eyes comeback tonpublished at 10:55 British Summer Time 16 April 2017

    Hampshire 209-4 v Middlesex 356

    Michael CarberryImage source, Rex Features

Back into the top flight and how would Michael Carberry have slept overnight unbeaten on 84 for Hampshire I wonder?

I imagine probably quite soundly and after a year of such huge emotion off-the-field for the former England opener, accumulating another 16 runs will probably be little worry for him.

He showed immense purpose yesterday at the top of Hampshire's order and also survived a nasty collision with Toby Roland-Jones which jarred his hand while turning for a second run.

He'll resume shortly with nightwatchman Kyle Abbott on day three at the Ageas Bowl.

    Durham 162 & 162-5 v Nottinghamshire 305

    Keaton JenningsImage source, Getty Images

Into Division Two where England opener Keaton Jennings will be key to any and all Durham resistance this Easter morning as the hosts to try to keep out the Nottinghamshire bowlers at Chester-le-Street.

Jennings has 62 to his name, but Durham hold just a 19-run lead over the visitors with only five second-innings wickets remaining.

The home side's tail is going to need to seriously wag but the weather could play a part too, with rain scheduled to disrupt play during the day.

  18. Cook and Essex have it all to dopublished at 10:51 British Summer Time 16 April 2017

    Somerset 209 & 174 v Essex 129 & 10-0

    Alastair CookImage source, Rex Features

Former England captain Alastair Cook will have all eyes trained firmly on him this morning as he attempts to help his Essex side chase 255 for victory over Somerset at Taunton.

The 32-year-old's first innings since stepping down as skipper of the national team saw him make 52 and the visitors will be hoping Cook can better his first innings score.

It's going to be a tough ask on a turning pitch with spinners Jack Leach and Roelof van der Merwe to contend with.

Can Cook lead Essex to an unlikely victory? It would certainly be some story.
