    Patel 56, Mullaney 35

Well, what a contrast of overs there.

16 runs come off Simon Harmer's previous one, but Ravi Bopara's disciplined display of line and length concedes just two runs.

Essex keeping the brakes on from time to time.

  2. Notts 226-4 (target 371)published at 31 overs

    Patel 55, Mullaney 34

Another handsome shot from Steven Mullaney off Simon Harmer gets him four over extra cover with one bounce.

He finds a couple more boundaries off the next two balls with a sweep to the legside and then a cut shot behind square.

Not finished there though and he makes it four boundaries in the over with another strong sweep to long leg.

Notts are motoring here as Mullaney moves to 34 off just 23 balls. Cooky's face says it all...

Ravi Bopara back on as Essex sense the need for another wicket here.

  4. 'Notts still in this'published at 19:25 British Summer Time 16 June 2017

    Ebony Rainford-Brent
Ex-England batter on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Notts are still very much in this game. It's still in Essex's favour, but there's definitely an opportunity.

Yep, the visitors need 165 off 21 overs. In the era of T20, not a problem, IF they keep wickets in hand.

  5. Notts 206-4 (target 371)published at 29 overs

    Patel 53, Mullaney 16

Nine runs off Simon Harmer's over for Notts including that six from Mullaney.

They're ticking over nicely here the visitors.

  6. 6 runs

Six from Steven Mullaneypublished at 28.2 overs

    Notts 204-4

Well, Steven Mullaney doesn't take long to get his eye in.

He skips down the pitch to Simon Harmer and hits him handsomely over extra cover for six runs to bring up Notts' 200.

  7. Notts 197-4 (target 371)published at 28 overs

    Patel 51, Mullaney 9

Lovely drive from Steven Mullaney on the up for four down the ground off Paul Walter.

Tom Westley shows some top fielding in the deep as he slides to cut off another boundary at deep point.

Paul Walter gets some encouragement to finish the over as he beats Mullaney's outside edge with one that bounces a bit more on a decent length.

  8. 50 runs

50 for Samit Patelpublished at 27 overs

    Notts 189-4 (Patel 50, Mullaney 3)

Simon Harmer continues from the River End and that's a tidy over that cost just two runs.

But, Samit Patel gets to his half-century off the last ball with a flick into the legside.

He's got there from 60 balls with seven fours.

  9. Notts 187-4 (target 371)published at 26 overs

    Patel 49, Mullaney 2

Paul Walter keeps going for Essex and Steven Mullaney is nearly the man to get run out this time as he takes a quick single into the legside.

He's home with the dive and the shy at the stumps missing.

Samit Patel pulls his final ball of the over for four and is nearly caught by a big diving attempt at midwicket.

  10. Notts 180-4published at 25 overs

    Patel 44, Mullaney 0

Thanks Gary, what a bonus and a gift of a wicket that was for Essex.

Still plenty of cricket to play in this game though. Steven Mullaney is the new man in for Notts...

  11. 'Just clueless'published at 19:12 British Summer Time 16 June 2017

    Niall O'Brien
Ireland wicketkeeper on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

That's just clueless and a huge bonus for Essex. A promising innings from Brendan Taylor is over.

Of the four wickets they've taken, Essex have only had to work for one really.

Do they deserve that breakthrough? Probably not, but I doubt they'll care.

  12. Notts 180-4published at 25 overs

    Patel 44, Mullaney 0

And that wicket seems like a good point to hand over to Adam Williams to take you through to the conclusion of this match.

  13. wicket

WICKET Taylor (run out) 62published at 24.5 overs

    Notts 180-4

Calamity. Both batsmen are at the same end and Brendan Taylor is gone.

Samit Patel punches Simon Harmer straight to Jamie Porter point and calls NOOOOOO.

Taylor ignores it, charges down the wicket and it's the easiest run out you will ever see.

  14. Notts 171-3published at 24 overs

    Patel 44, Taylor 53

    Whack!

Samit Patel finishes Paul Walter's over with a thump down the ground for four.

Notts need exactly 200 off 26 overs.

  15. Notts 163-3published at 23 overs

    Patel 38, Taylor 51

This has all the makings of a last-over thriller.

Simon Harmer can't stem the torrent of runs, conceding 12 from his first.

Brendan Taylor looks in sublime touch once again.

  16. 50 runs

50 for Taylor off 39 ballspublished at 22.3 overs

    Notts 160-3

Welcome to this One-Day Cup shindig Simon Harmer.

The spinner's first two balls are met with a reverse sweep to the boundary by Brendan Taylor, one courtesy of a horrific misfield by Jamie Porter.

The Zimbabwean then clips him for a single to bring up his half-century. Super knock so far.

  17. Notts 151-3 (Target 371)published at 22 overs

    Patel 36, Taylor 41

I'm in a state of shock, that's now two overs without a boundary!

Paceman Paul Walter is on for Essex and just three come from his first set of six.

Things are bubbling up nicely at Chelmsford.

  18. Weather updatepublished at 18:57 British Summer Time 16 June 2017

According to the BBC weather website...

A fine end to the day with some evening sunshine. It will remain dry and mild overnight, with some clear spells developing and light winds.

Well, it's pretty cloudy at the moment although Patel and Taylor are seeing it rather nicely.

Ravi Bopara is using all of his experience.

The all-rounder, now in his 32nd year, mixes up his pace and Notts take just six from the over.

It's got fairly gloomy at Chelmsford and the floodlights are on. I don't think we were due any rain, let me check that...

  20. 'In the balance'published at 18:54 British Summer Time 16 June 2017

    Niall O'Brien
Ireland wicketkeeper on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

I think Essex at the moment are fairly happy. The run-rate hasn't gone up much since the start of the innings.

You'd still say they're in pole position, but if Notts can extend this partnership for another 10 overs, it gives them a great position to launch at the end.

The game's beautifully in the balance.
