Summary

  • Australia fall three runs short

  • Eng 259-8: Beaumont 49, Brunt 45*, Villani 3-42

  1. Aus 103-2published at 27 overs

Lanning looks to whip one off her legs, an inside edge sends the ball wide of mid-wicket and they run through for a couple.

Another single to Lanning who hasn't shown any signs of that shoulder injury so far in this innings. Run rate may be creeping up but the captain looks content in not stepping on the gas just yet.

  2. Aus 100-2published at 26 overs

    Target 260

No wickets, no boundaries, that lull continues. Lanning drives through off and momentarily it is in the air but nothing for the Aussie skipper to worry about.

"Come on buddy" shouts Taylor behind the stumps, as four singles from that Hartley over brings up the 100 for Australia.

  3. Aus 97-2published at 25 overs

    Target 260

A change in the bowling as Sciver replaces Gunn. Lanning rotated her Australian bowlers a fair bit in the England innings, it kept the batters on their toes as they struggled to find any rhythm.

Five singles are negotiated by Australia. The required rate is slowly picking up a bit. 165 needed from 25 overs.

What Lanning has done really well has adjust to her shoulder injury. She has let the ball come to her and punched it. England may want to go to a bit of pace and rough her up. They might rush her.

  5. Aus 91-2published at 24 overs

    Harley 5-0-14-1

Another over goes by and just the single off Alex Hartley, the 23-year-old has bowled well today.

Crowd have gone slightly quiet, a little bit of a lull in this game. We need a wicket or a flurry of boundaries to liven it up. Even the music at the ground has gone from high tempo tunes to Coldplay.

  6. Aus 90-2published at 23 overs

    Target 260

Very good stuff from Perry and Lanning. Rotating the strike and running well between the wicket to pick up five from the over,

Australia need 170 from 27 overs at 6.30 runs per over.

  7. Aus 85-3published at 22 overs

    Target 260

Nice and tight from Hartley, Australia in the single market, with just the one for Meg Lanning in that over.

Another good partnership starting here for Perry and Lanning. Their average partnership chalks up 104.5 runs. If there was any partnership England would like to break, it is this one.

  9. Aus 82-2published at 21 overs

    Target 260

Jenny Gunn, I'm not one to tell England's leading wicket-taker what to do, but I don't think it's wise to bowl short and down leg side to Meg Lanning, who swats it through backward-square for four.

Nice comeback from Gunn who keeps it tight for the rest of the over.

  10. Aus 78-2published at 20 overs

Heather Knight has a long chat with Hartley as they continue to tinker with the field. Hartley bowls nice and tight to Perry, the Australian batter happy to stay back in her crease and defend. Losing a wicket now will really open up this game, but Australia do bad deep.

  11. Aus 77-2published at 19 overs

    Target 260

Jenny Gunn is the leading wicket-taker for England in ODIs with 124.

That wicket brings Meg Lanning to the strike, the Aussie captain returning from injury. She gets off the mark straight away as Australia take six from the over.

She will be gutted, Nicole Bolton. The second ball was another wide delivery and she chased it and now England have dismissed both of Australia's openers.

    Bolton c Taylor b Gunn 26

Gone. Again, it's the change of bowling which does it. Jenny Gunn with a wide one outside off, Bolton has a little flirt with the ball and edges it behind. Well taken by Taylor behind the stumps. Game on?

  14. Aus 71-1published at 18 overs

    Target 260

The sole wicket-taker for England today, Alex Hartley, continues with her slow-left-arm.

And Hartley may not be showing it but she will be fuming with Danielle Hazell in the deep, her teamate with perhaps the worst piece of fielding of the day, letting it go through her hands.

England can't be giving away boundaries like that if they want to win this game.

Ellyse Perry had a blinder of a tournament so far with scores of 5*, 39*, 71, 66.

  15. Watch Hazell spill tough caught and bowled chancepublished at 15:18 British Summer Time 9 July 2017

Wicket-taking chances have been few and far between for England so far this afternoon. This tough caught and bowled chance had been the closest England had come until Winfield snaffled that catch off Hartley's bowling...

  16. Aus 64-1published at 17 overs

    Target 260

Looking at the replays of that Winfield catch, it really was brilliant. One of those that may not look overly spectacular but you can appreciate how difficult it was.

Ellyse Perry is the new woman in and what a glorious shot to score your first boundary, leaning in and striking it through the covers. Textbook.

Much like The Oval, there are apartments here that overlook the ground. One of the residents has invited a TV cameraman to come in and film their flat. Strange. But at least it was tidy.

Great catch. Had to do two things - move quickly to her left side and also move forward, which is one of the hardest things to do when the ball is dying down.

    Mooney c Winfield b Hartley 31 (Aus 56-1)

Breakthrough. A change of bowling does the trick as Alex Hartley, with her third ball of the day, gets rid of the dangerous opener. But credit goes to Lauren Winfield with a super catch at mid-off. It was scooped up to Winfield who moved quickly and took it low.

I think the first over from Dani Hazell, with the missed run out and dropped catch, has woken the Aussie openers up. They realise that they can't get a start like this and not kick on. Mooney and Bolton bring a sense of calmness. That strength of mind will set the Australia innings up.

  20. Aus 55-0published at 15 overs

    Target 260

Hazell races through another over, a tidy one. This was a tactic used by Australia earlier, getting through them as quickly as possible, restricting the runs and adding pressure on the batters. The difference being that England were three or four down at the time.

Beth Mooney has 31 of Australia's runs today, she's batted nicely. But don't take my word for it, see for yourself ...
