Summary

  • Australia fall three runs short

  • Eng 259-8: Beaumont 49, Brunt 45*, Villani 3-42

  1. Aus 54-0published at 14 overs

    Target 260

Is this the first free-hit of the game? I think it might be. It comes out all wrong for Sciver; a full toss which goes just under shoulder height, with a no-ball called.

Mooney can't take advantage of the free-hit, stretching at a wide and slow one but can only guide it to mid-off.

50 is up for the Aussies, a strong opening partnership.

  2. Aus 51-0published at 13 overs

    Target 260

After that eventful first over by Danielle Hazell, this one is much calmer. Mooney and Bolton both opting to advance down the wicket and take the ball on full, but can only work away a single each.

Five wickets in four matches so far for the spinner at the World Cup, she took three in the win over South Africa, albeit going for 70.

  3. Aus 49-0published at 12 overs

    Target 260

Sciver continues. An appeal for lbw but umpire is not interested and England are not interested in a review either. Rightly so, was going down leg.

Three from the over as Australia edge towards 50.

The run out would have been out and this was a hard catch to take. England need to take their chances.

  5. Aus 46-0published at 11 overs

    Target 260

Cheers Phil. So then, Australia in the driving seat here in what would be the highest successful run-chase in the World Cup, should they do it.

Time for spin as Danielle Hazell comes in and it's all going on. There's nearly a run-out, a throw comes in wide of the stumps, Hazell gathers it, throws behind her back but misses. Bolton would have been gone.

The very next ball is a dropped caught and bowled chance, Hazell diving to her right and trying to get two hands to it. Difficult chance.

Mooney and Bolton can play more expansively once they get in, they've seen off Brunt and now they can look to accelerate.

  7. Aus 42-0published at 10 overs

    Target 260

The first England bowling change sees Natalie Sciver come into the attack for Shrubsole.

Again, Heather Knight comes to the rescue in the field with another diving, four-saving stop at cover.

There is no stopping the next ball, though, which is full on leg stop and crashed away for four by Mooney, who then edges past keeper Taylor for another boundary.

    Comfortable powerplay for the Aussies.

That is all from me. Here is Kal Sajad to see you through to the conclusion of this run-chase.

  8. Aus 34-0published at 9 overs

    Target 260

Brunt, like Shrubsole, continues to come around to the left-handed Aussie openers. It offers little danger to either. They are content to keep using the angle to their advantage to flick runs to leg.

England haven't quite found their line and length and they needed early inroads. But what it does show is when you get the ball on the stumps it is not that easy to score on.

  10. Aus 31-0published at 8 overs

Shrubsole veers ever so slightly to leg stump, allowing the Australia pair to comfortably add a couple of singles to their total.

  11. Aus 29-0published at 7 overs

    Target 260

Some sharp running allows Bolton to pick up two with a flick to leg. The Aussie openers haven't set off any fireworks, but there is a busy proactivity about their approach.

Mooney has looked good so far. Here are exhibits A and B...

There's a tussle on here. Both teams are trying to grapple for control on this game, wrestle for the power. Neither of them have quite been able to dominate.

  13. Aus 26-0published at 6 overs

Nothing risky from Australia, who continue to lay the foundation for the chase with sensible cricket shots, including an excellent on-drive from Mooney, which brings her four off Shrubsole.

  14. Aus 21-0published at 5 overs

    Target 260

Better over from Brunt, and some brilliant fielding from Heather Knight at cover. The skipper dives to stop a powerfully-struck drive that would otherwise have sped away for four. She ensures a maiden.

It's a weird one, the turning of the bat at that moment makes it difficult to judge. The noise sounded softer, so clearly it is the pad.

  16. Aus 21-0published at 4 overs

    Target 260

Strange that we have the technology and yet the umpire doesn't use it to clear up all errors. It wasn't out, but it wasn't a wide either.

  17. Not outpublished at 3.4 overs

    Aus 21-0

Ultraedge shows nothing when ball passes bat. There is a big spike, though, when the ball passes thigh-pad. No clear evidence of a nick. However, we have stayed with the wide despite contact with the thigh.

I heard a noise, I thought it came off the pad. It didn't sound like a woody noise.

  19. Umpire reviewpublished at 3.4 overs

    Aus 20-0

The umpire has called wide but England think Bolton got a nick to this ball from Shrubsole, that veered down leg.

There was a noise, but was it bat against pad?

Australia are going at the seamers, it's a decent wicket and they can just play their natural game.
