I've got to go with Katherine Brunt because of her experience, her back-of-the-hand slower ball, and her batting.

She also has a high dot-ball percentage...

I'd have Alex Hartley in as one of my spinners, batting at 11. My number 10 is Hannah Rowe of New Zealand, she swings the ball and offers energy within the bowling unit. So Katherine Brunt misses out, and she won't be happy about that.

Van Niekerk is a given for me - I thought about Beams as well, but Van Niekerk is getting more turn. If it's a turning wicket I'd get an extra spinner in, but at the moment I'd have Van Niekerk and Deepti Sharma.

I've got three spinners in Dane van Niekerk,Kristen Beams who's been accurate as well as attacking, and Poonam Yadav. Even though Yadav's less than five foot tall, it must be hard facing a spin bowler tossing it up from such a low trajectory. I like her variations. Jess Jonassen came into consideration for me.

Van Niekerk is excellent with the bat, too.

I've gone for Australia's Ashleigh Gardner. I've been impressed with her off-spin bowling, and the way she's gone about her batting as it gives you a bit of firepower at number seven.

She's also bowled the most dot balls in this tournament.

I've slotted in Deepti Sharma at seven - more for her off-spin than her batting, but she's also had a couple of direct-hit run-outs.

The covers are being peeled back, much in the way you peel a bandage off a cut. There's so much water on the surface. The Super Sopper has its work cut out.

Tammy Beaumont is an adaptable opener - she can go big if she needs to, but she can stick in there, nudge and nurdle. So you could go with Lizelle Lee, but I think I'll go with Nicole Bolton.

Essex Women's Cricket have picked their team - with the left-field selection of NZ off-spinner Leigh Kasperek. Who used to play for Essex.

The concern I'd have about Lizelle Lee is her technique early on against the new ball. I'd go with Beaumont and Bolton, as Nicole Bolton has the consistency.

    Speaking of that technique...

The umpires, after a few minutes of doing an umbrella hokey-cokey, have taken their brollies down. I'm saying nothing, lest I end up tempting fate.

Ebony and Lottie went for Wolvaardt and Bolton as potential opening partners for Tammy Beaumont, but I'd like to throw in South Africa's Lizelle Lee as a contender.

    As you were.

    Middle order

    Ebony Rainford-Brent
Ex-England batter on BBC Test Match Special

I've got a few options at four or five - Sarah Taylor,Meg Lanning. But I think you'd have to go with Ellyse Perry.

My biggest challenge for the whole balance of this team is spinners, as all the spinners who have taken wickets are leggies or people taking the ball away from right-handers. Heather Knight was the leading off-spinner in the ICC Women's Championship, and she's taken eight wickets in this World Cup.

  18. Postpublished at 11:24 British Summer Time 20 July 2017

Speaking of Sarah Taylor - her ridiculous hands came into play against South Africa as she pulled off this audacious stumping to dismiss Trisha Chetty. I'm still not over this. It's just daft.

Ellyse Perry. You've got to get her in, the higher the better. And Nat Sciver at five. I've got Sarah Taylor in at six keeping wicket.

    Number three

    Ebony Rainford-Brent
Ex-England batter on BBC Test Match Special

I'd want Meg Lanning in my order, but because of her injury, you can't guarantee runs. If you were setting fields against Lanning, you'd be exploiting that shoulder injury and bumping her. So I'm going with Mithali Raj who's churned out the runs for ever at number three. Although you're choosing between two of the best batters who've ever played the game.
