    Number three

    Charlotte Edwards
Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special

There's no question - she's the best player in the world. Meg Lanning. She's scored over 500 runs with a busted shoulder. I've watched her for a number of years and she's pure class. I've never met anyone so competitive, and she takes real pride in what she does.

  2. Team of the tournamentpublished at 11:15 British Summer Time 20 July 2017

    Openers

    Ebony Rainford-Brent
Ex-England batter on BBC Test Match Special

The left-right combination is important for me, so I might go with Tammy Beaumont and Nicole Bolton.

There's extra covers being brought out at Derby. It's hosing it down.

    Openers

    Charlotte Edwards
Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special

There's probably three or four openers that have performed well - Nicole Bolton of Australia is a gutsy opener in the Justin Langer mould, and I've been impressed by Laura Wolvaardt of South Africa as she's scored runs against the best teams. I liked the way she played Katherine Brunt on Tuesday. I'm going with Beaumont and Wolvaardt as my openers.

Speaking of openers, it was South African teenager Laura Wolvaardt who impressed against England, scoring 66 from 100 balls, as South Africa made 218 from their 50 overs.

  6. Team of the tournamentpublished at 11:06 British Summer Time 20 July 2017

    Openers

    Charlotte Edwards
Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special

The openers are quite difficult to choose. Smriti Mandhana set this World Cup alight in the opening game, but she's barely scored a run since that opening game, so she's not made my team as you need to be consistent. On the flip side, Tammy Beaumont started slowly but she's the leading run-scorer now so she makes my team. Her best knock wasn't her hundred - it was her 90-odd here against New Zealand.

  7. How do cricketers cope with rain delays?published at 11:04 British Summer Time 20 July 2017

    Heather Knight tells us how...

So what do international cricketers do on a day like today when it's hosing it down? England captain Heather Knight explains all - in a BBC Sport column she wrote for us in 2015:

"Being a cricketer in England, one skill that's non-negotiable in your cricketing armoury is an ability to amuse yourself during a long rain delay. It's always tricky when you've got the game in the back of your mind, but it's quite important to be able to relax so you're ready to switch on quickly if the rain subsides.

"Everyone has their own ways of coping with the rain. Charlotte Edwards can be seen sighing after reaching in her pocket for her phone several times an hour, only to realise it's not actually there because of the ICC's anti-corruption measures, external which mean that all phones have to be removed from the dressing room.

"Katherine Brunt is usually making a large amount of noise somewhere, whether it is in celebration of a game she's found - such as trying to putt a golf ball into an empty coffee cup, external - or if she's arguing that she's losing at cards because everyone else is cheating.

"Anya Shrubsole will often be frowning at Katherine making so much noise as it distracts her from her Sudoku. I'm usually found filtering between reading the paper, trying and failing to make people laugh, playing cards or doing some running bat repairs."

It's coming down a lot harder now, those puddles have started to thicken, and the Super Soppers will have to be in overdrive.

So, we're going to start nominations for our team of the tournament - and my first selection is Nat Sciver.

  9. Who do you want in the final?published at 11:01 British Summer Time 20 July 2017

    Charlotte Edwards
Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special

I think England might prefer to play India, but the cricket purist in me wants an England-Australia final. They've been the two best teams. But who knows - if India get there and it wakes them up, if we were to get a women's IPL for instance, it would be a game-changer.

Ebony Rainford-Brent adds: "Looking at the bigger picture, if India make the final, it's going to be huge on the subcontinent - and in terms of the global reach, it would be huge. Mithali Raj has said she thinks there'll be more support from the BCCI if India do well."

  10. Injury worry for Lanningpublished at 10:57 British Summer Time 20 July 2017

Should we get any play today, Australia may have to do without captain Meg Lanning, who has been struggling with a shoulder injury throughout the tournament.

She missed Australia's matches against Pakistan and South Africa - their final match of the pool - as she battled with the injury.

She had a light session with head coach Matthew Mott yesterday, but didn't train with the rest of the team.

She's scored 328 runs in five innings, including an unbeaten 152 against Sri Lanka in this World Cup - how big a miss will she be? Time will tell...

  12. Weather reportpublished at 10:49 British Summer Time 20 July 2017

BBC Weather's Matt Taylor: "It's a horrendous start to the day with heavy rain - temperatures have started to drop after a humid night. The rain will last, on or off, until at least midday, and there may be heavier bursts to come. But the sun should come out this afternoon so hopefully the outfield should die off. But the rain should continue for at least the next hour and a half."

I think this rain delay might play into India's hands more than Australia's. I think Australia will be wanting to play a 50-over game, India might not mind a reduced-overs match.

To my untrained eye, that doesn't look like a bad afternoon for cricket. The morning, on the other hand...

India's record against Australia makes for slightly disconsolate reading - they've won just eight of the 42 meetings between the two.

However they've had plenty of success at Derby's County Ground in this year's World Cup, having won all four of their matches here.

Armed with Smriti Mandhana, one of the most elegant lefties you could hope to watch, at the top of the order, and veteran Jhulan Goswami to open the bowling, India have looked good as they secured a third place finish.

India are also the only side to have beaten England - and captain Mithali Raj managed to look ridiculously, effortlessly cool while doing so...

Australia, bidding for their seventh World Cup, finished second in the table, on equal points with England.

The reigning champions won six of their seven matches, with their only defeat coming against this year's finalists England.

A strong side in all areas, Australia have the number one ODI batsman - in the form of Meg Lanning - as captain and this tournament's second-top run scorer, Ellyse Perry, coming in at four.

They also beat India by eight wickets when the two sides met in Bristol earlier this month.
