  • Eng 228-7: Sciver 51, Taylor 45; Goswami 3-23

  1. Ind 13-1published at 4 overs

    Target 229

The first sign of aggression comes from Punam Raut is she just punts a full ball from Shrubsole over the bowler's head for four up to the Pavilion steps. That was a lovely strike. Decent comeback from Shrubsole. She is definitely getting movement through the air with the lights on at Lord's.

  2. Ind 8-1published at 3 overs

    Target 229

Katherine Brunt is one of the quicker bowlers we've seen today but Punam Raut is still batting out of her crease. Good bowling from Brunt. She is tempting the battters with some full deliveries but for now the Indians are wary not to drive.

That is Mandhana's first duck in ODIs.

  4. Ind 6-1published at 2 overs

    Target 229

There's swing for Shrubsole as she gets one to come back into India skipper Mithali Raj. England will love that. Captain Heather Knight and wicketkeeper Sarah Taylor were already chirping away before that wicket - they'll be up for it even more now.

We know how dangerous Mandhana can be - she made 90-odd in the last game. She was a little bit late on the shot, and if you want that wicket to get you going, there's nothing better than seeing someone bowled through the gate. England are fired up.

    Mandhana b Shrubsole 0 (Ind 5-1)

Bowled her!! Dream start for England.

Anya Shrubsole bowled three wides to start the over but she has made the breakthrough! It's a lovely delivery that goes through the gate and knocks back off stump. England are delighted. Shrubsole's celebration says it all.

  7. Ind 1-0published at 1 over

    Target 229

Sorry about that pun, people. It took me a good 20 minutes to come up with it over my lunch as well.

Brunt bowls a nice line outside off stump to start off before Poonam Raut edges a single to third man for the first runs of the innings. England don't need reminding how dangerous Raut and Smriti Mandhana are. They put on 144 against England in the opening game of the tournament.

  8. Ind 0-0published at 0 overs

    Target 229

Lamb meatballs and chicken stir fry were on the menu for the players at lunch but early wickets will be the order of the day for England.

The India top four all have centuries in this tournament.

    Katherine Brunt starts us off.

The players are back out. India need 229 to lift their first World Cup. Matt Henry will talk you through the opening overs of their reply. Here we go...

Brunt and Gunn played cautiously, but well enough to keep England's total ticking along, before this run out. To say Brunt was a little miffed is a massive, massive understatement...

And despite some tight final overs from India, England were able to post a competitive 228-7.

Jhulan Goswami has the fourth best bowling figures in a World Cup final with 3-23. The only bowler to take four wickets is England's Nicky Shaw, who took 4-44 in 8.2 overs in the 2005 final.

But India had veteran bowler Jhulan Goswami at their disposal. Goswami and captain Mithali Raj are playing in - we presume, anyway - their final World Cup, and both players were in the side that lost the final to Australia. Goswami found herself on a hat-trick as she nipped through England's middle order...

And then Sciver, shortly after making a half-century, was trapped plumb in front to leave England on 164-6.

Not long after, captain Knight fell - how this wasn't given out on the field, I'll never know - to leave England 63-3.

However, Nat Sciver, who has scored two centuries in this World Cup, came out and played positively from the off. She and Sarah Taylor rotated the strike well to stop England stagnating.

However, Winfield couldn't make the most of her second chance as she was dismissed by left-arm spinner Rajeshwari Gayakwad.

And then, Tammy Beaumont played an awful shot to an awful delivery and suddenly, England had lost their two openers.

Cheers Matt. Right, let's have a little recap, shall we?

It was Heather Knight who called correctly and the toss and she opted to bat first. Openers Tammy Beaumont and Lauren Winfield made a positive start...

And an early reprieve for Winfield as she correctly reviewed an LBW decision looked to be a good omen for England.

India's Jhulan Goswami, who took 3-23: "As a senior player, it's my role to give a good start. There's hardly any bounce in the wicket - it's a bit slow - so I decided to stick wicket to wicket."

Who is the happier there? The Indians walk off looking pleased. They have probably edged that, I'd say.

But England have got a total on the board. Pressure can do funny things.

    50-50? 51-49 in India's favour?

Here's Amy Lofthouse to talk you through what happened...

That was a really good effort from India. It could make for a very, very interesting chase.

A chip down the ground for one from Marsh. 19-year-old Sharma has bowled an excellent over with just seven coming from it.

England end on 228-7 in this World Cup final.
