Lancashire will be thrilled with their efforts today.

Having ended Hampshire's first-innings resistance in the morning session, Alex Davies' blistering 97 and Haseeb Hameed's unbeaten 77 have given them a lead of 239 at stumps.

Jos Buttler is trying to round off a brilliant day's cricket for his side with a flourish.

The England keeper has 21 from 21 balls, with a four and two sixes.

Just 3.5 overs remain before the teams, and the rest of us, are done for the evening.

A tough day for Worcestershire is at an end.

The hosts still require 49 more runs to avoid the follow-on when they restart tomorrow.

Haseeb Hameed is in characteristically patient mood at Hampshire, while Jos Buttler has reined in his attacking instincts.

The Lancashire lead stands at 204 runs with seven overs left under the floodlights.

A few more games are starting to wrap up now.

Leicestershire have closed at 124-4 after Durham declared earlier on 525-8, Cameron Steel leading the way for the visitors with 224.

Another man making 200 today was Nottinghamshire's Alex Hales, whose side lead by 243 runs against Derbyshire, who close on 45-1 in their second innings.

Northamptonshire have collapsed in the second innings against Gloucestershire, reaching stumps at 50-5, a lead of 128.

Somehow, the light has improved again at New Road, where there are 8.2 overs left to play.

Incidentally, Adrian Harms has been doing some (more) research on record for number of catches in a day.

"Our earlier research was incorrect. The record for catches by a fielder is seven, jointly held by three players: Rikki Clarke, Tony Brown and Mickey Stewart.

"Five by Harry Finch is a decent day's work though, and equals the Sussex record last achieved in 1976."

So, with Essex having wrapped up victory against Yorkshire inside two days, and poor light and rain seeing off two more games, only Lancashire and Hampshire are still going in Division One.

All four games are ongoing in Division Two, though Sussex and Worcestershire are facing their second delay for bad light.

No more play will be possible this evening at Lord's.

It's been a good day for Warwickshire, who have given themselves a real chance of a first Championship win of the season, leading by 258 runs heading into the third day.

Fading light is starting to have an impact in a few games now.

Warwickshire and Middlesex are back in the dressing rooms at Lord's, where there are seven overs remaining in the day.

In case you were wondering, there are still a minimum of 17 overs to be bowled at Lancashire.

They're taking their time at Worcester too, where 15 overs remain and the teams are back out after an improvement in the light meter readings.

That's been the shot of the day from Haseeb Hameed, a good old-fashioned forward defensive stroke.

Still, you can't argue with the results, as he eventually brings up his first Championship 50 of the season from 154 balls, with six fours.

Hopefully the start of a happier run of form for the young England batsman.

Gloucestershire were dismissed for 265, giving the home side a 78 first innings lead, but Ben Duckett (5) and Rob Newton (1) have gone early leaving Northants tottering on 11-2.

David Payne then castles Max Holden for five to leave the hosts reeling on 17-3.

Somerset 234-4 v Surrey

It turns out that no news is not always good news.

The umpires have had a look and decided no more play is possible at Somerset, where the hosts have had the better day after being put in to bat.

Tom Abell (88) will resume alongside Steven Davies (68) tomorrow, so long as the weather improves.

A pitch inspection was scheduled for 17:20 at Somerset, but we're yet to hear the results of it.

There was a little drizzle around a few minutes ago, which might be enough to see an end to play.

Lancashire are now three down at Hampshire, having seen Dane Vilas deceived by spinner Mason Crane, the ball clattering into the stumps.

It's better news for Haseeb Hameed though, the opening batsman just three away from 50, and with the steadying presence of Shivnarine Chanderpaul for company.
