  1. Clarke makes immediate impactpublished at 13:25 British Summer Time 7 August 2017

    Somerset 92-3 v Surrey

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

It is a decade since Rikki Clarke has bowled a ball for Surrey in Championship cricket. He came into the attack with Somerset 43-1 after Stuart Meaker had make an important breakthrough, having Marcus Trescothick caught at slip for 26.

And Clarke immediately had two wickets in two balls. Firstly Tim Rouse edged behind and very next ball James Hildreth was trapped in front without scoring. Clarke and Meaker combined over twelve overs to take 3-23 and leave Somerset in trouble.

But Eddie Byrom and Tom Abell have played very well and guided the hosts to lunch with the scoreboard reading 92-3.

  2. Hales lead Nottinghamshire chargepublished at 13:20 British Summer Time 7 August 2017

    Derbsyhire 220 v Nottinghamshire 214-4

    Dave Fletcher
    BBC Radio Derby Sport

Alex Hales put the Derbyshire bowlers to the sword in the morning session at the County Groud as Nottinghamshire reached 214-4 at lunch – just six behind.

The England batsman is 79 not out from 84 balls at lunch, a knock that has – so far – included 16 boundaries.

Earlier Samit Patel (25) was run out backing up when Tony Palladino got fingertips to a Steven Mullaney straight drive.

Mullaney went on to reach 50 before slapping a loose shot into the hands of Ben Slater at point.

Kyle Jarvis' spell of 4-20 from eight overs this morning helped him record his best bowling figures for Lancashire of 6-61.

It will be a bittersweet lunch for the Red Rose.

They will have been delighted with the first hour and left slightly frustrated at the second hour as Liam Dawson top scored in the match so far with an impressive 75.

  4. 'Batting looks easier'published at 13:10 British Summer Time 7 August 2017

    Warwickshire 126 & 109-4 v Middlesex 161

    Kevin Hand
    BBC Radio London at Lord's

Warwickshire fought back on a morning that was in near complete contrast to the first day until Ryan Higgins popped up with three wickets - including a double-wicket maiden - just before lunch.

Having seen 20 wickets fall yesterday, no one could have predicted that Warwickshire would reach 100-1 within sight of the interval.

Jonathan Trott, with a half-century, had produced a wonderful resistance of the Middlesex seam attack's attempt to bounce him out but was Higgins' third victim.

Batting has overall looked considerably easier today with the ball not beating the bat anywhere near as much as it did on day one. The question is why, especially given the overhead conditions which are even more overcast than yesterday? Better batting, a flattening pitch? Only time - and the Middlesex chase - will tell.

The spinner's entertaining innings included nine fours and two big maximums as he ensures Hampshire earn a handy 75-run first-innings lead as the hosts are bowled out for 224.

That wicket also means an early lunch at the Ageas Bowl.

Cameron Steel has reached an impressive double-century for Durham as the hosts continue to build a huge first-innings score.

The 21-year-old has hit 24 boundaries in his innings and has now shared a 118-run fifth-wicket stand with Michael Richardson (50 not out).

In Derby, Alex Hales is picking up where he left off in the white ball game as his unbeaten 74 of just 72 balls has taken Nottinghamshire to 204-4, only 16 runs behind Derbyshire's first-innings score.

Liam Dawson, discarded by England, responds with a battling half-century for Hampshire, one which has taken them to their first batting bonus point.

Dawson's fifty contained four fours and two sixes. You'd imagine he might try for a few more big hits now he's only got Fidel Edwards for company.

If Steel gets there he will be the 16th Durham player to do it in a first-class match and the second in a row on this ground, although Mike Hussey's 253 came in 2005!

Michael Richardson has 42 but Durham settled for four batting points though as Leicestershire only managed one bowling point.
