Anya Shrubsole has the ball in her hands for the final over, with two of her former international team-mates waiting.

  7. Vipers 128-5published at 19 overs

    Edwards 6, Brindle 11

Here we go - current England captain to former captain. Oh, and that's four! Charlotte Edwards gets her first boundary as she slaps Heather Knight just over the head of a diving fielder at cover to clatter into the ropes. Fran Wilson wasn't a million miles away from catching that but it didn't half have some oomph behind it.

  8. Vipers 121-5published at 18 overs

That's brought Charlotte Edwards to the crease, but she's at the non-striker's end as Arran Brindle dabs the ball gently down the third man boundary.

Southern Vipers batter Suzie Bates told BBC Radio 5 live sports extra:

"We got off to a good start with Hayley Matthews gettting a few boundaries.

"It's a pretty good wicket if you get close enough to the ball and I think 140 is a score that is about par and if we bowl well hopefully we can defend that."

  10. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 17.3 overs

    Du Preez c Dibble b Nicholas 31 (Vipers 117-5)

Mignon du Preez has gone! She tried to chip returning spinner Claire Nicholas over mid-wicket and instead sent it up towards Jodie Dibble, who took a stunner of a diving catch.

Stafanie Taylor is heading off the pitch - that could be a touch ominous for the Storm's batting line-up. The physio has jogged over to meet her.

Knight will continue, heels and knees kicking up, and she bowls a tidy over before Mignon du Preez marches down the track and carves the ball through long-on and away for four.

  13. Vipers 108-4published at 16 overs

Stafanie Taylor, after a bit of wincing as she holds her thigh, will finish out her allotted overs. Arran Brindle is the new batsman at the crease and she pushes a delivery through the covers. It looks like two but Mignon du Preez is super quick, and the two take three. Brindle applauds her team-mate with her bat. Taylor is struggling a bit here, I think - she's walking with a touch of a limp.

That's a big wicket for Western Storm because Danni Wyatt had decided that she was going to 'go'.

Heather Knight does this, she comes on and takes wickets. I feel like she doesn't quite have the respect she deserves and batters feel they can go after her.

  15. More than one way to hit a sixpublished at 18:52 British Summer Time 1 September 2017

You could do like Suzie Bates and hit the ball down the ground over the boundary rope.

Or you can do like Danni Wyatt and get a little assistance from the fielder - Sophie Luff won't want to see this again.

  16. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 14.5 overs

    Wyatt c Hennessy b Knight 21 (Vipers 100-4)

That's a superb catch from Georgia Hennessy! Danni Wyatt came down the pitch and lofted the ball into the air and Hennessy judged it so well. She ran in, lined herself up and then grabbed the ball as she dived and hit the pitch. Brilliant stuff. Heather Knight doesn't half have a knack of taking wickets at key moments.

  17. Vipers 100-3published at 14.4 overs

Heather Knight's decided to bowl herself and she strikes Mignon du Preez on the pads as she goes to sweep. Rachel Priest, behind the stumps, is fuming that that wasn't given out, and Hawk-eye shows it would have been umpire's call.

  18. Vipers 98-3published at 14 overs

    Taylor 3-0-21-3

Heather Knight turns back to Stafanie Taylor's offies, and Mignon du Preez promptly sweeps her down to the ropes for a well-timed four. Taylor readjusts her line and the two can only add a couple of singles to the total.

Spectators were handed red t-shirts with targets as they entered the ground earlier, perhaps in the hopes of attracting the ball towards them.

Sadly, with Suzie Bates out the likelihood of the ball landing over the boundary ropes has narrowed and there was a huge sigh from the clearly knowledgeable crowd when the New Zealand skipper was dismissed.

The sun has begun to set in Sussex and a fair few blankets are being pulled out as the sea breeze passes over the ground.

  20. Vipers 90-3published at 13 overs

    Run rate 6.92

Strong wrist work from Mignon du Preez as she reverse-sweeps a full toss from Jodie Dibble, but it's only for a single. And that'll be four for Wyatt as she gets an outside edge that goes into the ropes. That outfield has quickened up, for my money.
