  • Notts posted 190-4, Bears replied with 168-8

  1. Hain key to Bears hopespublished at 20:45 British Summer Time 2 September 2017

    Bears 54-3 - target 191 (7 overs)

This is exactly what the Bears want - Sam Hain is a very good batter.

A textbook shot, he got underneath the ball and didn't try to hit it too hard.

  2. 6 runs

    Bears 54-3 - target 191published at 7 overs

    Hain 28, Elliott 3

Samit Patel has the ball in his hand again. After two singles, Sam Hain decides enough is enough and smashes a straight six, and follows it with another slightly to the on-side.

A single to deep mid-wicket gives Grant Elliott the strike for the final ball and he forces it to long-off for another. That's much better by the Bears.

  3. Bears 38-3 - target 191published at 6 overs

    Hain 14, Elliott 1

Grant Elliott is the new man at the crease for the Bears. He brings experience to bear on the situation, but loses a slower ball bouncer and is down on his haunches as the ball deflects off his bat for a single. One to Sam Hain ends the over, and ends the opening powerplay.

The Bears already need almost 11 an over.

  4. wicket

WICKET Hose (b Ball) 7published at 5.2 overs

    Notts 36-3 - target 191

Sam Hain takes an easy single, but looks in some discomfort as he bends his knees gingerly at the bowler's end.

He'll be in even more discomfort now as partner Adam Hose goes, cleaned up by Jake Ball as he shapes to deflect the ball towards third man.

The Bears need a special innings from someone now.

  5. Bears 35-2 - target 191published at 5 overs

    Hain 12, Hose 7

It's Harry Gurney again and he continues to operate round the wicket. Very little on offer for the two young Warwickshire batsmen who add just five to the total.

They need to find a way to up the tempo, but will their inexperience be exposed by the Notts attack?

  7. Bears 30-2 - target 191published at 4 overs

    Hose 5, Hain 9

Adam Hose is off the mark with a boundary to backward square and carves the next into the covers but has to settle for one as the sweeper collects.

Superb by Sam Hain, who moves across his stumps and gets down on one knee to flip it away for another boundary. But is that another run out next ball? Steven Mullaney's throw from mid-wicket hits the stumps but Hain has just made it.

  8. Bears 20-2 - target 191published at 3 overs

    Hain 4, Hose 0

Sam Hain strokes the final ball of the over away for four welcome runs, but the Bears certainly have a big job on their hands now. His new partner is Adam Hose, who began the summer as a Somerset player.

  9. wicket

WICKET Pollock (run out) 14published at 2.4 overs

    Bears 16-2 - target 191

Almost every ball to Ed Pollock so far has been played into the leg-side. He chances his arm with a steepling pull shot off Jake Ball, but the ball comes down in a vacant area and he picks up two.

The left-hander then drills the ball down to long-on but he's not quick enough between the wickets as Samit Patel's throw hits the stumps and he's gone. What a game Patel is having. He can do no wrong.

  10. Bears feeling the pressurepublished at 20:22 British Summer Time 2 September 2017

    Bears 12-1 - target 191 (2 overs)

That's what the pressure of 190 on the board does. You feel you have to go big every shot and that slower ball really foxed Dom Sibley.

I don't think the Bears can afford to lose any more wickets in the powerplay.

WICKET Sibley (b Gurney) 2published at 2 overs

    Bears 12-1 - target 191

Same opening pair for Notts with the ball as in their semi-final against Hampshire, with Harry Gurney on for the second over. The Bears have had a longer rest than their opponents, will that be a factor in the outcome of this match?

It's a very tidy over by Gurney with just three singles from the first five balls and a well-disguised slower ball is too much for Dom Sibley, who is bowled off-stump.

  12. One for the future?published at 20:19 British Summer Time 2 September 2017

    Bears 9-0 - target 191 (1 over)

    Ebony Rainford-Brent
Ex-England batter on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Ed Pollock is one of my favourite young cricketers coming through. He so often gets down on one knee and gets his bat underneath the ball.

  13. Bears 9-0 - target 191published at 1 over

    Pollock 8, Sibley 1

After his brilliant batting in the Notts innings, here's Samit Patel with the ball.

Ed Pollock has one for a sighter, then sweeps powerfully for four. The next is a full toss, but he miscues and can only take two, followed by a single to long-on.

Dom Sibley is immediately under way with one and Pollock smashes the final delivery along the floor through the hands of Dan Christian to pick up another single.

  14. Bears to break records?published at 20:14 British Summer Time 2 September 2017

    Andy Zaltzman
    BBC Test Match Special statistician

The 190 that Notts scored is the second-highest total in a T20 final in this country. Northants made 194-2 in the final four years ago against Surrey.

If Birmingham Bears successfully chase their target 191, it will be the highest successful chase in a T20 match at Edgbaston.

    Notts 190-4 (20 overs)

    Ebony Rainford-Brent
Ex-England batter on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

I just feel Notts will suck all the pace out of the game. It's going to be a tricky one for the Bears.

  16. Bears can chase big totalpublished at 20:11 British Summer Time 2 September 2017

    Notts 190-4 (20 overs) v Birmingham Bears

If Birmingham Bears need a dose of self-belief as they prepare to try and chase down this target, they only have to look back as far as their quarter-final.

On that occasion last month, Surrey piled up 204-5 at the Oval, but the Bears got home with four balls to spare as skipper Grant Elliott made an unbeaten 59 off 37 balls.

  17. Pollock packs a walloppublished at 20:09 British Summer Time 2 September 2017

Notts Outlaws 190-4 (20 overs) v Birmingham Bears

In the interval before the final, we were watching video highlights of Ed Pollock's innings for Birmingham Bears against Glamorgan earlier in the day. It was like watching a young Adam Gilchrist, so clean was some of his ball-striking.

He's hit three T20 fifties since coming into the Bears team, and has a strike-rate over 178. I wonder if he's got another special innings in him today? They're going to need it.

Andy White: Samit Patel - don't care about his BMI or his warm downs or warm ups. He is a class act at T20 and should be in the England team.

  19. '190 is a good score and it's set up nicely'published at 20:06 British Summer Time 2 September 2017

    Notts 190-4 (20 overs)

BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Notts bowler Stuart Broad: "I'm delighted with the way we've recovered from the position we were in at the start. We've had a habit of that all season - getting into a good position after losing a couple of wickets.

"I think the lights have changed the wicket slightly. I think 190 is a really good score. Birmingham have got to get the highest score of the day to win the trophy and it's set up nicely."

Broad also says he doesn't disagree with the decision made to leave him out of Notts' starting line-up for both matches today.

  20. Watch Taylor smash a sixpublished at 20:05 British Summer Time 2 September 2017

Brendan Taylor more than played his part in the 132-run partnership with Samit Patel that may well decide this game. He hit 65 from 49 balls - an innings which included this strike.
