Summary

  • Notts Outlaws beat Birmingham Bears by 22 runs in final at Edgbaston

  • Notts win first domestic T20 title

  • Notts posted 190-4, Bears replied with 168-8

  1. Notts 15-0published at 2 overs

    Wessels 14, Hales 1

Riki Wessels has his eye in. Olly Stone sends a swinging ball through at 89mph first ball. Wessels doesn't mind that and he times the next two between mid-on and mid-wicket for successive boundaries.

A lively bouncer is also dealt with for a single - and would have been four a couple of yards either side of the man on the boundary. The Bears would be wise to heed the lesson of the second semi-final and get rid of Wessels quickly before he really tees off.

  3. Notts 5-0published at 1 over

    Wessels 5, Hales 0

Jeetan Patel fires the ball in at the leg stump and there's an optimistic lbw appeal. But Riki Wessels flicks one past short fine leg for the first boundary of the final from the third ball.

There is definitely turn there though for the spinner.

Alex Hales and Riki Wessels are out in the middle. One of the most explosive opening batting partnerships are ready. Jeetan Patel, one of the best bowlers in the competition, has the ball.

Let us hope we're in for some fireworks.

    Day is quickly becoming night.

This, my friends, is where the fun starts!

Jeetan Patel doesn't look particularly threatening as a bowler. But underestimate him at your peril - the Kiwi offspinner is a wonderful performer for Birmingham Bears.

Having won the toss and chosen to bowl, Grant Elliott will be hoping for a wicket-taking and restrictive spell from his premier bowler, who has 20 wickets in T20 Blast this season.

Only Clint McKay of Leicestershire (23) has taken more in the competition this summer.

Meanwhile, Northants Steelbacks captain Alex Wakely, who lifted the trophy 12 months ago, is hoping for another big performance from a former team-mate, who took three wickets for Birmingham Bears in their victory over Glamorgan

Nasser Hussain, Alfred the Gorilla and Rob Key - obviously - have decided that the winner is Freddie 'Elvis' Flintoff.

Now, shall we get back to the cricket?

Birmingham Bears v Notts Outlaws (18:45 BST)

Alex Hales understandably attracted plenty of attention in the build-up to T20 Finals day, having made an unforgettable hundred at Lord's when they won the One-Day Cup.

But opening partner Riki Wessels is no slouch when it comes to big-hitting - in fact, he's one of the leading T20 run-scorers this summer (only Kent's Joe Denly and Hampshire's James Vince have more). You can check out his stats below - impressive, eh?

Could be a tough night for the Bears if either of them fires in the final.

The well-oiled crowd are being 'treated' to some entertainment by David 'Bumble' Lloyd and Andrew 'Freddie' Flintoff, who are, for tonight only, Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley.

As you might imagine, it's a rather strange watch - in keeping with Gary Smee's reports from the ground. Nothing like a good old sing along eh?

A couple of other things I've come across in the interval...

In a brief encounter by the coffee machine, former England opener Marcus Trescothick told me he's not sure his stomach will ever recover after a go on the bungee cage thingy.

  17. Teams and tosspublished at 18:18 British Summer Time 2 September 2017

Birmingham Bears v Notts Outlaws (18:45 BST)

Bears skipper Grant Elliott wins the toss and decides to bowl first at their home ground. He's hoping the 'dew factor' will work in their favour, helping the ball skid onto the bat in the chase.

That means Notts will bat first again, just like they did in the semi-final against Hampshire.

Both sides are unchanged from their semi-final wins, as Notts resist the urge to bring in Stuart Broad.

Birmingham Bears: Pollock, Sibley, Hose, Hain, Elliott (capt), de Grandhomme, Thomason, Woakes, Ambrose, Patel, Stone.

Notts Outlaws: Hales, Wessels, Moores, Taylor, Patel, Christian (capt), Mullaney, Root, Sodhi, Ball, Gurney.

So it's all set up - Birmingham Bears v Notts Outlaws in this year's T20 Blast final.

The Bears won the trophy in 2014, having made their only previous appearance in the final - as Warwickshire - in 2003.

It is 11 years since Notts last made the final, losing to Leicestershire by four runs.

Let's hope we're in for another game as exciting as that one - and will Notts draft in England's Stuart Broad to bolster their attack?
