Summary

  • Notts Outlaws beat Birmingham Bears by 22 runs in final at Edgbaston

  • Notts win first domestic T20 title

  • Notts posted 190-4, Bears replied with 168-8

  1. Notts 83-3published at 11 overs

    Taylor 27, Patel 21

Jeetan Patel continues and short fine leg is very much in the game, with Brendan Taylor sweeping for four past him.

A better over for the Outlaws, with Taylor and Samit Patel's partnership moving past 50. Can they now pick up the pace?

I think Samit Patel is doing the right thing here.

He's moving around the crease a lot and he's finding a way to get that ball to the boundary.

    Brilliant batting.

  3. dropped catch

    Notts 73-3published at 10 overs

    Taylor 22, Patel 20

A little harsh to term this a dropped catch as Grant Elliott just about gets a hand on one that's smashed back at him by Samit Patel.

It proves costly too as his good over is ruined on the final ball as Patel wallops it miles into the stands, where it's dropped.

Every so often a rendition of 'God Save The Queen' breaks out in the crowd.

Why you may ask? Because a bloke dressed as Queen Elizabeth, with crown and all, is strolling off to get a pint.

I wonder what these fellas do Monday to Friday?!

  5. Watch Woakes dismiss Wesselspublished at 19:21 British Summer Time 2 September 2017

Here's another big wicket for Chris Woakes earlier, getting big-hitting Riki Wessels caught behind by Tim Ambrose attempting a ramp shot.

  6. Notts 58-3published at 9 overs

    Taylor 20, Patel 8

Jeetan Patel is back, but he goes a touch straight, with the offspin taking the ball down the legside.

Brendan Taylor and Samit Patel are not the best runners between the wickets and the former nearly contrives to run himself out to short fine leg. Four runs off the over - two of which were extras.

We saw earlier how difficult Steven Mullaney was to get away. Grant Elliott is a similar sort of bowler, full of cutters and changes of pace, and the skipper will look to restrict the run-rate during the middle overs here.

He starts well as Brendan Taylor and Samit Patel struggle to get the ball away. Steady accumulation is the order of the day for the Outlaws.

  9. Thomason's lightning reactionspublished at 19:14 British Summer Time 2 September 2017

Birmingham Bears' fielding was red hot in their semi-final win over Glamorgan earlier today - one of the highlights was this bit of quick-thinking from Aaron Thomason to run out Jacques Rudolph...well worth another look.

  10. Notts 47-3published at 7 overs

    Taylor 18, Patel 3

Grant Elliott is on the attack, giving Chris Woakes a third over, rather than keeping the England man back for the death overs.

It doesn't come off, with Brendan Taylor and Samit Patel watchful, but Woakes' figures of three overs, 3-12 demonstrates his wonderful start.

  11. Notts 44-3published at 6 overs

    Taylor 17, Patel 1

Aaron Thomason comes into the attack, but it's a poor start for the youngster.

Brendan Taylor shows that the pitch is still a good one for batting by timing a push through the legside for four, creaming a wide one through the covers and flicking one down to fine leg to complete the hat-trick.

It's far from the explosive start we're used to from Notts - just a 7.33 run-rate.

  12. Watch Woakes dismiss Halespublished at 19:07 British Summer Time 2 September 2017

Here is the first of Chris Woakes' three wickets so far. It's an important one too, as he sends Alex Hales back to the Edgbaston pavilion.

  13. Notts 30-3published at 5 overs

    Taylor 4, Patel 0

Notts need to rebuild and they have the perfect two batsmen at the crease for it in Brendan Taylor and Samit Patel.

One over of the powerplay left.

  14. Woakes takes three quick wicketspublished at 19:05 British Summer Time 2 September 2017

    Notts 30-3 (5 overs)

    James Taylor
Ex-England batsman on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Chris Woakes did Tom Moores for pace and now he's done Riki Wessels for pace.

It was a decent catch from Tim Ambrose, who almost juggled the ball in the end.

  15. wicket

WICKET Wessels (c Ambrose b Woakes) 19published at 4.5 overs

    Notts 30-3

Chris Woakes has been feeling his way back from injury of late, but he looks pumped up here.

Riki Wessels, who had been seeing it well, attempts a paddle on one knee, but he succeeds only in gloving the ball behind to Tim Ambrose.

The Bears are well on top here. Woakes has three wickets.

  16. Notts 27-2published at 4 overs

    Wessels 19, Taylor 1

Olly Stone is very lively indeed. The 23-year-old has struggled with injury since signing from Northants in January, but now he's fit he looks the real deal.

Riki Wessels gets hold of the last ball, sending a low full toss down the ground for four to slightly spoil a good over.

  17. A bad day for Moorespublished at 18:59 British Summer Time 2 September 2017

    Notts 21-2 (3 overs)

    Andy Zaltzman
BBC Radio 5 live sports extra statistician

Tom Moores is the second player to get a pair on T20 Finals Day, after Arul Suppiah of Somerset in 2011.

Suppiah at least had the consolation of setting a T20 record that summer by taking 6-5 against Glamorgan.

  18. wicket

WICKET Moores (c Sibley b Woakes) 0published at 3 overs

    Notts 21-2

Another one bites the dust. Great start for Chris Woakes, who has two wickets in his first over.

Tom Moores completes a poor day with the bat, mistiming a quick bouncer into the legside, where Dom Sibley takes a simple catch.

  19. Hales dismissedpublished at 18:56 British Summer Time 2 September 2017

    Notts 21-1

    James Taylor
Ex-England batsman on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Top of off stump - that was Chris Woakes' stock Test delivery.

This is a big wicket for Birmingham Bears and a big loss for Notts Outlaws.

  20. wicket

WICKET Hales (b Woakes) 7published at 2.3 overs

    Notts 21-1

    Brilliant bowling from Chris Woakes.

He nearly has Alex Hales second ball. The England opener hoicks one into the legside where Sam Hain very nearly takes a worldie of a catch, but steps on the rope, and it's six.

Woakes responds perfectly with one that nips back and bowls him. Big wicket.
