    Essex 159 & 0-0 (2 overs) v Somerset 164

Essex openers Varun Chopra and Nick Browne are yet to get off the mark as Craig Overton and Paul van Meekeren begin with two maidens.

WICKET Collingwood (c Tahir b Viljoen) 177published at 12:34 British Summer Time 29 August 2017

    Durham 479-8 (119.5 overs) v Derbyshire

Finally, Derbyshire see the back of Durham skipper Paul Collingwood as he fails to get hold of a pull shot and the ball is caught at long leg. He batted for just over six hours, faced 228 deliveries and hit a six and 20 fours. Oh yes, and his partnership with Matty Potts added 132 to the total.

Phil Mustard and Liam Plunkett's overall eighth-wicket record stand for Durham, 147 against Yorkshire in 2009, remains intact.

  3. Solid batting by Surreypublished at 12:29 British Summer Time 29 August 2017

    Middlesex 247 v Surrey 83-2(31 overs)

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

A solid start from Surrey. Stuart Meaker has played extremely well, with shots worthy, not of a nightwatchman, but a number four. Scott Borthwick has settled in and the Middlesex bowlers are being posed some questions by the Surrey pair.

  4. 50 runs

for Matty Pottspublished at 12:24 British Summer Time 29 August 2017

    Durham 461-7 (117 overs) v Derbyshire

Paul Collingwood and Matty Potts have posted a century partnership for Durham against Derbyshire, and Potts has now reached a maiden Championship fifty off 105 balls, with the help of six fours. Tremendous effort by the 18-year-old and after last season's off-the-field problems and demotion to Division Two, it's great to see the club's investment in youth paying off.

Incidentally, this is an eighth-wicket record stand for the county against Derbyshire, beating the 77 by Phil Mustard and Liam Plunkett in 2003 by quite some distance.

  5. wicket

WICKET van Meekeren (c Wheater b Harmer) 0published at 12:23 British Summer Time 29 August 2017

    Essex 159 v Somerset 164 (65 overs)

None. That's the answer to my previous question. Paul van Meekeren is caught at short leg by Adam Wheater. Somerset take a first-innings lead of five runs.

That's also fifty Championship wickets for Simon Harmer, who is engaged in a good race with Jamie Porter, who ends with 5-40.

  6. wicket

WICKET Groenewald (c Foster b Harmer) 11published at 12:21 British Summer Time 29 August 2017

    Essex 159 v Somerset 164-9 (63.2 overs)

Tim Groenewald's useful partnership with Dom Bess is broken as Simon Harmer has him caught behind by James Foster.

Last man Paul van Meekeren comes to join Bess. How many more than the last-wicket partnership add?

  7. Dickson falls for Kentpublished at 12:19 British Summer Time 29 August 2017

    Leicestershire 350 v Kent 34-1 (10 overs)

Kent lose Sean Dickson for 19 runs after a solid start between him and Daniel Bell-Drummond. Ben Raine has made the breakthrough for the Foxes.

Surrey's Stuart Meaker is now 35 not out against Middlesex at The Oval. Not one for the record books yet, but get in touch and tell us what the best nightwatchman's innings you've seen is.

  9. Somerset have the leadpublished at 12:12 British Summer Time 29 August 2017

    Essex 159 v Somerset 160-8 (61.2 overs)

Dom Bess (20 not out) has started to get things going for Somerset and a four off Paul Walter takes Somerset into the lead on first-innings totals.

  10. rain stops play

Second hold-up at New Roadpublished at 12:11 British Summer Time 29 August 2017

    Worcestershire 363 v Gloucestershire 5-0 (4 overs)

After a slightly delayed start because of rain, they're off again. Let's hope this won't be a long interruption.

  11. wicket

WICKET Mullaney (b Kleinveldt) 28published at 12:09 British Summer Time 29 August 2017

    Notts 213 & 62-2 (18.3 overs) v Northants 141

Another breakthrough for Northants, as Rory Kleinveldt beats Steven Mullaney to dislodge his bails.

The away side really need to get on a roll and limit Notts' lead, which currently stands at 134 runs.

  12. wicket

WICKET Parry (c Lamb b Patel) 43published at 12:06 British Summer Time 29 August 2017

    Warwickshire 200 v Lancashire 165-4 (49.1 overs)

Warwickshire have the breakthrough at Old Trafford and nightwatchman Stephen Parry is the man to go after a stand of 85 with Liam Livingstone, who is 66 not out. Matt Lamb takes the catch safely at mid-off.

Next man in is Shiv Chanderpaul - will anyone be bringing him updates on the West Indies' progress in their run-chase against England?

Anyone know how the career of Shiv's son Tagenarine is progressing? Presume he's known as Tag for short. When he's out for a duck, is he known as Hash-Tag, as in 'making a hash of'? Think we'll stop that one right there.

  13. 'Notts steady after early loss'published at 12:02 British Summer Time 29 August 2017

    Notts 213 & 56-1 (17 overs) v Northants 141

    Alex Winter
    BBC Radio Northampton sport

After the carnage of yesterday where 20 wickets fell for 373 runs, proceedings are a little quieter this morning as Notts try to battle their way into a good lead. They have steadied after losing Jake Libby to the 13th ball of the morning.

There doesn't appear to be quite the same level of menacing zip that caused all the problems yesterday, but Northamptonshire have still probed away well. One hopes both sets of batsmen will play with a little more care.

Northants have both captain Alex Wakely and wicketkeeper Adam Rossington off the field with finger/hand injuries which isn't an immediate issue but could be when they have to bat again.

  14. Division Two round-uppublished at 12:00 British Summer Time 29 August 2017

A good morning so far for Glamorgan at Colwyn Bay, where they have reduced Sussex to 143-6. Ruaidhri Smith followed the early dismissal of Angus Robson by bowling Luke Wright, and Chris Nash fell to Craig Meschede for 42.

Kent have begun their reply to Leicestershire's 350 all out at Canterbury and are 21-0 in the seventh over, with openers Daniel Bell-Drummond and Sean Dickson still together.

It's a similar situation at New Road, with Gloucestershire 5-0 from four overs in reply to Worcestershire's 363 all out.

  15. 150 runs

for Paul Collingwoodpublished at 11:52 British Summer Time 29 August 2017

    Durham 434-7 (110 overs) v Derbyshire

Two runs off Hardus Viljoen and Paul Collingwood goes to 150 off 206 balls faced. Remember his magnificent 206 in Adelaide on the 2006-7 Ashes tour? Wonder if he has allowed his mind to contemplate the prospect of another double ton here. Partner Matty Potts, meanwhile, is on 34 after a boundary off Derbyshire leg-spinner Imran Tahir.

  16. Slow progress for Somersetpublished at 11:50 British Summer Time 29 August 2017

    Essex 159 v Somerset 140-8 (55 overs)

Dom Bess and Tim Groenewald are content with survival for the time-being at Chelmsford, where change-bowlers Paul Walter and Simon Harmer are on.

After the three early wickets you can't blame the Somerset tailenders, who are just 20 runs from overtaking Essex's first-innings score. You sense any small lead could be crucial.

  17. Lancashire pair extend partnershippublished at 11:49 British Summer Time 29 August 2017

    Warwickshire 200 v Lancashire 151-3 (45 overs)

It's looking ominous for Warwickshire at Old Trafford where they have been unable to separate Lancashire's overnight pair of Liam Livingstone and Stephen Parry. Livingstone hit back-to-back fours off spinner Jeetan Patel, who has conceded 25 from four un-Patel like overs so far, and is now 64 not out, with Parry on 31.

  18. Norwell polishes off Worcestershirepublished at 11:46 British Summer Time 29 August 2017

    Worcestershire 363 (102.4 overs) v Gloucestershire

Worcestershire's final three wickets went in quick succession at New Road, so they have to settle for four batting points. Liam Norwell claims two of them, including Ben Cox for 61, and finishes with 4-54. A fine effort by the Gloucestershire seamer, who dislocated a finger on the opening morning.

Tom Smith didn't manage to add to his three wickets from yesterday - but he has reason to smile as it's his 30th birthday. Happy birthday, Tom!

  19. Meaker enjoying watchman rolepublished at 11:42 British Summer Time 29 August 2017

    Middlesex 247 v Surrey 62-2 (18 overs)

Maybe Surrey's social media person wasn't joking after all (see 10:30 entry). Nighwatchman Stuart Meaker helps himself to three successive boundaries off England's Toby Roland-Jones and is comfortably outscoring partner Scott Borthwick at the moment. Meaker has 28 not out, Borthwick is on nine.

  20. Northants keeping it tightpublished at 11:38 British Summer Time 29 August 2017

    Notts 213 & 35-1 (12 overs) v Northants 141

Mohammad Azharullah and Rory Kleinveldt have started well at Trent Bridge, giving nothing for Steven Mullaney and Cheteshwar Pujara to hit in the first half-hour.

The problem is that Notts have a lead of 107 runs with nine wickets remaining. BBC Northampton commentator Alex Winter informs us that Adam Rossington has also left the field after a blow on the hand, meaning David Murphy has taken the gloves.
