    Well bowled!

Warwickshire have handed 18-year-old Henry Brookes a debut in this match and he's just beaten England's number three Tom Westley with a beauty outside off stump.

The England under-19 international looks a good prospect. A couple of his deliveries have been up at 85mph.

  6. Hameed off the markpublished at 11:11 British Summer Time 13 September 2017

    Lancashire 6-1 (7 overs) v Somerset 335

What sort of an innings are we going to see from young Haseeb Hameed today?

He batted 336 minutes for his 88 last week against Essex and will that Davies wicket see 'Baby'Boycott' dig in again?

He's off the mark early. Craig Overton has been very good so far with the new ball.

    Bad news for Lancashire.

They have lost Alex Davies - their leading run scorer this season - in the fifth over of their reply to Somerset's 335.

It's a short-ish delivery from Craig Overton which is edged to Marcus Trescothick at second slip.

Liam Livingstone is the new batsman.

  8. Woakes v Westley at Edgbastonpublished at 10:56 British Summer Time 13 September 2017

    Essex 89-1 (27 over) v Warwickshire 201

Tom Westley is being tested early on by his England teammate Chris Woakes.

Woakes beats the outside edge on the first ball of his latest over and then finds it two balls later but the ball again goes through a gap in the slips to third man.

    A really good battle.

    Essex 85-1 (26 over) v Warwickshire 201

Essex may have lost an early wicket but Varun Chopra is carrying on in the same way he played last night.

He reached a 49th career first-class 50 with a textbook cover drive against his former club.

The knock has included 10 fours and has come from 84 balls.

    Essex 76-1 (24 over) v Warwickshire 201

Essex and England number three Tom Westley gets off the mark with a tentative push which is edged through the slips.

There is a little of extra pressure on him after a lean Test series against West Indies even though it ended with 44 not out at Lord's.

There'll be plenty of interest from the England hierarchy over the next hour or so. Haseeb Hameed will be batting for Lancashire any moment. Hi if you're reading Trevor...

    Early breakthrough for Warwickshire!

It's a lovely delivery from Keith Barker from over the wicket with his left-arm seam which squares up Nick Browne.

The batsman edges to first slip where Jeetan Patel takes a good low catch. The umpires have a check of the replay but that's absolutely fine. It carried.

It was a frustrating day yesterday for Lancashire but they've taken the final Somerset wicket on the eighth ball of the day.

Tom Bailey bangs one in to Jack Leach who just lobs the ball up in the air to gully.

Bailey ends with three wickets and now attention turns to the Lancashire batsmen.

  19. How can Essex win this week?published at 10:27 British Summer Time 13 September 2017

    Jamie PorterImage source, Getty Images

So the big story this week is that Essex could clinch the title. The permutations are a little confusing so thankfully the County Championship provided this breakdown on their website...

    • Essex need to extend their 36-point lead to 49 to be assured of the Championship. Points are accrued by winning (16pts), drawing (5pts) and bonus points in the first 110 overs of the first innings (5pts batting 400+ runs & 3pts bowling 9+ wickets).
    • So a maximum bonus point draw for Essex would be enough if rivals Lancashire lose without gaining a point themselves.
    • Essex take the title if they beat Warwickshire with maximum bonus points and Lancashire only achieve 11 points
    • If rivals Lancashire beat Somerset then the title fight goes down to the next round no matter what
    • A draw at Edgbaston will also take the title chase to the next round of matches
  20. Weather forecastpublished at 10:25 British Summer Time 13 September 2017

There are some heavy showers around and strong winds forecast which could cause havoc with bowlers run ups but thankfully the worst of Storm Aileen seems to have passed.

Hopefully that means we'll get plenty of cricket today. The games are set up brilliantly. It should be a cracker.
