    Middlesex v Hampshire

After a wet outfield put any prospects of play on day one to bed, things are looking much better at Uxbridge.

Middlesex v Hampshire should be under way on time.

The news from the toss is that there hasn't been one and Hampshire will bowl first. They have suffered a blow this morning with skipper James Vince out with a hamstring injury.

Jamie Porter and Simon Harmer were the stars for Essex yesterday as they bowled Warwickshire out for 201 before the leaders' openers reached 69-0 at the close.

Elsewhere, second-placed Lancashire were frustrated by a century by Somerset's Steven Davies as they look to keep the pressure on Essex.

Surrey's Mark Stoneman played beautifully for another Championship ton - which almost certainly books his Ashes place - as his side piled on the runs against Yorkshire.

In Division Two, Neil Dexter's century gave Leicestershire the better of day one against Worcestershire who could go top with a win.

Good morning and welcome along to our coverage of day two of this week's eight County Championship fixtures.

Essex had an excellent first day yesterday against Warwickshire at Edgbaston and know they could win a seventh Division One title with a win this week if Lancashire slip up at Somerset.

Warwickshire themselves are in desperate need of points to aid their relegation fight, as do Somerset, and the Division Two promotion race is hotting up too.

We'll cover it all right here on this page. Don't go anywhere.

    1992.

A year of a General Election, some new competition called the Premier League and Whitney Houston dominating the singles charts (you know the song).

It was also the year Essex last won the County Championship.

But could that barren spell end this week?
