    McGrath 10-3-32-1

Great timing from Beaumont, freeing her arms and guiding the ball through the covers for four - next ball, McGrath over-corrects, pitches it on middle and that's meat and drink to Beaumont who flicks it through mid-wicket for four more.

This is almost certainly the best Test innings ever played by anyone with the middle name Tilley.

Tahlia McGrath seems to be the one bowler who's getting the ball to swing. Maybe putting a slip in might be the way to get Tammy Beaumont.

  3. Eng 102-1published at 06:37 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2017

    Beaumont 53, Knight 42

Well, they can turn back to their pace spearhead Megan Schutt, who bowled an excellent line and length with the new ball. Healy is up to the stumps, but England pick up two singles nevertheless.

  4. Eng 100-1published at 06:34 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2017

That's the hundred up for England - with Beaumont and Knight picking up ones and twos. What can Australia do to turn the tide?

Tammy Beaumont's played beautifully, and this partnership with Heather Knight has put England in a very good position. Good pitch, though - looks like a batter's paradise.

    Eng 96-1

That's a maiden Test fifty for Tammy Beaumont, drilling Perry to deep mid-off for a hard-run single to bring up the landmark from 136 balls.

A nice way to round off a year in which she was named as player of the tournament in England's World Cup success.

    Beaumont 49, Knight 37

A better over from McGrath - a maiden to Beaumont, who's watchful with that milestone approaching.

Meanwhile, some interesting debate on TMS with Jim Maxwell suggesting the school of thought that women's cricket could use a shorter pitch.

Heather Knight addressed that issue in one of her columns for us on the BBC Sport website a couple of years ago - she was firmly against any alterations. Let us know what you think.

Beaumont, in danger of being overtaken by her skipper, moves to within two of a maiden Test fifty as she punches the ball back past the non-striker and away for four. The pink ball certainly looks like it's been a bit roughed up, it's offered next to nothing for the seamers today.

The curator could have done with leaving another millimetre of grass on this pitch. It's deader than Julius Caesar at the moment.

  10. Eng 87-1published at 06:16 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2017

    Beaumont 44, Knight 37

Jonassen's off after 11 overs and seamer Tahlia McGrath, who took the only wicket to fall so far today, is back on. But Heather Knight - bat high in the air in her new stance as the bowler runs in - tickles a four down the leg side, with keeper Healy standing up to the stumps to McGrath's medium pace. The youngster is punished again as Knight drills another four through wide mid-wicket.

England coach Mark Robinson, sitting at the back of the shaded England viewing area, has a broad smile on his face. As well he might.

    Perry 10-2-16-0

Knight continues her positive approach against Perry, standing tall and cutting a single between point and short cover.

More fans are still arriving at the North Sydney Oval, which as you might expect, is in north Sydney - not too far north of the iconic Harbour Bridge.

  12. Adelaide update: Wicket for Cranepublished at 06:11 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2017

Amanda-Jade Wellington may be wicketless so far in this game, but her fellow 20-year-old leg-spinner Mason Crane has a wicket, bowling Will Pucovski as England reduce the Cricket Australia XI to 47-4 in reply to their 293 all out. However, as you may have heard, the injured Jake Ball will not bowl again today.

  13. Eng 78-1published at 06:08 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2017

    Beaumont 44, Knight 28

Knight again brings the paddle-sweep out of her locker with success to guide Jonassen for a single. Beaumont, meanwhile, is motoring along, patiently waiting for the right delivery to hit and punching the left-arm spinner for four through the covers. That's the fifty stand.

Perry has a deep mid-wicket in place - who is taking the opportunity to sign a few autographs over the boundary between deliveries. But that fielder is brought into the game when Knight works Perry for a single to deep square leg.

  16. Eng 72-1published at 06:01 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2017

    Beaumont 40, Knight 26

Beaumont cuts Jonassen for two, skipper Haynes gives chase and cuts it off, then Beaumont drives two more as the ball races along the ground and squirts out of cover's hands.

    Perry 8-2-14-0

We wondered if Ellyse Perry had returned just for a one-over blast before tea, but she's going to continue - and finds captain Knight resolute in defence, before she guides the last ball of the over for four, flicking the ball off her pads to fine leg. She has 26 from 48 balls, Beaumont has 36 from 106.

Former Australia batter on BBC Test Match Special

I just get this feeling about Heather Knight at the moment, probably after the one-day internationals. I don't want to put the mockers on her as I enjoy watching her bat, but I think she's really getting a good feel for her position in the side as captain, and leading from the front with the bat.

Jess Jonassen to continue. Knight keeps the scoreboard ticking with a single, there's an appeal as Beaumont prods forward but there looked to be a bit of bat on that - and she was well down the track.
