  1. Aus 54-2published at 07:03 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2017

    34 overs

Ecclestone bowls a maiden over to Perry, while mid-over, the umpire has to whip what looks like a Swiss army knife out of his wallet in order to snip a loose thread or two off the seam of the ball.

  3. Aus 54-2published at 07:00 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2017

As Sophie Ecclestone celebrates that wicket (with a smidgen of credit to the good doctor, Dr Inksbreak), Ellyse Perry joins Alex Blackwell at the crease.

Time for England to keep the pressure on - Marsh still has slip, silly point and short leg posted in catching positions. Blackwell plays out a maiden - Marsh has 1-7 from 10 overs, with five maidens. Superb figures.

It's amazing how these two wickets have been nearly identical - from different ends, but two short balls and two catches at mid-wicket.

And the dastardly drinks break strikes - whether in international cricket, state cricket or club cricket, wickets always seem to fall straight after drinks.

    Mooney c Sciver b Ecclestone 27 (Aus 54-2)

Sophie Ecclestone strikes! In a virtual carbon copy of Nicole Bolton's dismissal, Beth Mooney goes after a poor ball and gives Nat Sciver an easy catch at mid-wicket!

A maiden Test wicket for the teenager.

I won't lie to you, it has been relatively hard work watching this, it's not been an express run rate. Beth Mooney has faced 98 balls to score 27.

  7. Adelaide update: Wickets tumblepublished at 06:53 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2017

Two wickets have fallen since Adam's last update - with Dawid Malan (5) and James Vince (29) both falling with the score on 121.

England are 123-5 with Jonny Bairstow and Chris Woakes at the crease, leading the Cricket Australia XI by 183 - you can follow that game with our live scorecard.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is drinks with Australia trailing by 226.

    Marsh 9-4-7-1

England bring in a second helmeted close fielder as Fran Wilson comes in at silly point, joining Tammy Beaumont who is already crouching at short leg. Charlotte Edwards on TMS wonders why the close fielders wear shin pads, but no protection on their knees. Although you'd have to be slightly mad to field that close in any event?

Marsh has an lbw appeal against Alex Blackwell as she prods forward to the Kent off-spinner, but the umpire shakes his head - it looks like it was a slice of bat before pad. Another long stride from Blackwell, another appeal, but nothing doing - it might have hit her outside the line.

They need to do something about the lengths of the breaks. Why not make them both half-an-hour?

    Ecclestone 4-0-10-0

Sophie Ecclestone has also bowled pretty accurately on her Test debut, having been given the nod ahead of fellow slow left-armer Alex Hartley. Just a single from her over.

We're nearly halfway through the day's play - it's an hour and five minutes before the 40-minute "dinner" break (and the chance for some breakfast if you're following in the UK).

  13. Aus 52-1published at 06:44 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2017

    Mooney 25, Blackwell 1

Marsh serves up a full toss which Mooney chips to fine leg for a single. There's a fielder down there, but it reaches her on the bounce.

  14. Adelaide update: Can Vince go on?published at 06:43 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2017

    Adam Mountford
BBC Test Match Special producer in Adelaide

Lights coming on early here at the Adelaide Oval on a gloomy day, 33 degrees, but we’ve barely seen the sun.

Conditions have been very difficult for batting and England lost Cook for a very scratchy 32, Stoneman chopping on for a much more fluent 51 and captain Joe Root lbw to Australia international Gurinder Sandhu for just a single.

James Vince has struck a six in his 26 not out, but can he go on to register a significant contribution and cement his place at number three?

    England 118-3, lead by 178.

Laura Marsh has tied up an end very well for England. It's ironic that her worst ball was the one that took the wicket.

  16. ouch!

Aus 50-1published at 06:40 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2017

A single from Mooney allows Ecclestone to bowl at Blackwell for the first time, switching to bowl round the wicket to the right-hander, who's off the mark with a single to mid-wicket. Fifty up.

There's then a nasty moment for Beth Mooney as she's struck on the elbow when a throw comes in from Heather Knight - time for a visit from the physio. Mooney has been in the wars a bit today, having been hit in the face by the ball during slip-catching practice before play.

A poor ball, but a very good catch - sometimes poor balls get wickets, and Nicole Bolton will be kicking herself for that.

    Bolton c Shrubsole b Marsh 24 (Aus 48-1)

Finally a breakthrough for England - it's not a great delivery from Marsh, a bit of a half-volley, but Bolton steps forward and smacks it pretty much straight to Anya Shrubsole who crouches down to take a low catch in front of her ankles at mid-wicket.
