Chris Jones: Granite resolve from Stoneman to survive that over from Hazelwood. Never too early for a pun, right?
Malan 0, Stoneman 52
That delivery just flicked the glove of Joe Root and England are facing a barrage now. Snorter of a bouncer from Pat Cummins to new batsman Dawid Malan, turning him inside out.
Graeme Swann
Ex-England spinner on BBC Radio 5 live
That sort of dismissal happens more often here at Perth than anywhere else because of the extra bounce. It's certainly not something the bowler meant to do. It's a devastating blow for England. Joe Root was looking really good. He'll have been waiting all week for this knock.
Ed Smith
Ex-England batsman on BBC Test Match Special
Of all the ways to get out, that's one of the unluckiest.
Root c Paine b Cummins 20 (Eng 115-3)
Soft, that's a really soft dismissal and Australia do have the breakthrough they have been threatening.
Pat Cummins strays legside and Joe Root tickles the slightest of edges off glove or bat through to the keeper.
A big blow for England
Wonder what Joe Root said to his partner at the changeover? Mark Stoneman has been dropped twice since lunch and smashed in the head.
But he's not out. Root now faces Pat Cummins, Stoneman would presumably love a single to get away from Josh Hazlewood.

In Oman, about to take off for London. Pushing the use of 3G (and data) to a maximum in order to read about the developing bruises on Mitch Marsh's face. Come on lads!

Josh Hazlewood's spell either side of lunch is 7-6-9-1.
Root 20, Stoneman 52
Mark Stoneman then wafts at a full ball from Josh Hazlewood, who is bowling beautifully after lunch. He has Stoneman on toast here.
But England get through the over.
Michael Vaughan
Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special
Stoneman doesn't want to duck. He wants to play at everything. When you've been hit on the head, the last thing you want to think about ducking and risk getting hit again. Hazlewood has to keep going short here.
Ed Smith
Ex-England batsman on BBC Test Match Special
A torrid few balls for Mark Stoneman.
Catch that! Mark Stoneman gets away with another one!
It's an excellent short ball, into the handle of the bat and it spoons to Nathan Lyon in the gully. It carries, the spinner is diving forwards and he should really catch that.
He grasses it and Stoneman soldiers on.
Mark Stoneman is carrying on. A bouncer again?
At real speed that's a big impact into the side of Mark Stoneman's head. He's smiling which is presumably a good sign. He takes a big gulp of water too.
Ed Smith
Ex-England batsman on BBC Test Match Special
That hit him hard. It's similar to the ball that struck Joe Root in Brisbane. His head was turned and slightly pointed back.
Ouch indeed! Mark Stoneman doesn't pick a well-aimed short ball from Josh Hazlewood and it clangs into the side of his helmet. Ear high.
That rattled the padding out of his lid, that looks nasty.
Stoneman appears OK but quite rightly there are plenty of physios around him.
Michael Vaughan
Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special
That could be a key moment. It's a crucial drop - Josh Hazlewood has been the best bowler. He can't keep bowling all day.

Nick Bruzon: That’s an absolute gift wrapped chance. How has Stoneman got away with that? Should have been gobbled up as easily as Niall’s toast.
Stephan Shemilt
BBC Sport in Perth
The edge from Stoneman carried so far that the crowd had time to cheer before Mitch Marsh dropped it. Hazlewood, the wronged bowler, got some sympathetic applause from the members as he trudged to fine leg.
Root 20, Stoneman 52
Joe Root is racing along, soft hands to edge safely along the ground for another four. He's more than a run a ball so far.
Pat Cummins frustrated with that but skipper Steve Smith applauds the probing line.
Root gets in behind for the rest of the over. Dare I say he is looking good out there?
