Former captain Michael Vaughan says the current England players "behave like students" off the field.

England Lions batsman Ben Duckett was suspended from playing on their tour of Australia after pouring a drink over James Anderson in a Perth bar.

Ten to five in the morning here in the UK. Absolutely no need for anyone to be awake unless you're milking a cow or readying a postbag.

This is the hour that the BFG got down to business.

Play resumes in 20 minutes or so. Joe Root and Mark Stoneman at the crease with Stoneman two runs away from a third test 50.

Mark Stoneman has driven the ball exceptionally well, a constructive comment is that if he is going to go on, when they bowl short he gets tucked up and plays awkwardly.

Get a chest pad on and let the ball hit you. You can't get out.

It was nearly England's morning. It should be a fairly decent pitch for scoring on so 91 is nice but not outstanding. Australia just kept it tight for four overs and Vince made a misjudgement.

    Morning everyone!

It's a lovely day to make my Ashes debut, and that was a pleasant morning session wasn't it?England will be pretty pleased - though that second wicket just before lunch has taken some of the shine off.

That's not a bad morning's work for England, albeit book-ended by the loss of two wickets. James Vince must be fuming with himself. All that patience and hard work cancelled out by another edge behind.

I'm off to get the teas in. Tom Rostance will take you through tea and beyond.

Jonathan France: Not another nice 20-odd & then Vince caught behind the wicket? When will the selectors stop picking people who get out in the same way over & over & over again?

Kev Sandall: Sums England up, we get starts but can't seem to kick on. Big innings required by the captain now.

  12. Lunch: Eng 91-2published at 27 overs

    Stoneman 48, Root 1

Mark Stoneman takes a step onto the back foot and cracks a single away. That's the first run off the bat for 23 minutes. Joe Root then adds another one as he gets forward and whips his wrists to work Lyon off his front pad for one. Stoneman pats away the rest of the over and that'll be lunch.

We're going to squeeze another Nathan Lyon over in.

Magnificent work from Josh Hazlewood to James Vince, just frustrating him. He's got his dander up as he gets a delivery to nip over the top of Root's stumps, before he whistles down a bouncer to end the over. Root grins at him. Hazlewood doesn't return the favour.

Pressure. It's all down to pressure. There were two or three overs with nothing to hit, nothing off the bat and it's a tentative, indecisive shot. He wasn't defending or attacking, a disappointing shot.

Vince plays nicely and then gets out. He was caught in two minds.

    Vince c Paine b Hazlewood 25 (Eng 89-2)

    Gone!

With five minutes to go until lunch, James Vince has edged behind. It's a nice delivery from Josh Hazlewood but it's near enough identical to the ones that Vince left in the last over. Vince was eyeing up another cover drive but his feet were in quicksand, and instead he's ended up poking the bat forward and sending an inside edge through to Tim Paine.

It's a sellout at the Waca. I've been out and about around the ground and three times (quite rightly) booted out of seats in the stands by ticket-holders. On the third occasion, one large chap simply gestured with his thumb and said "see ya". I thanked him for his politeness.

  20. Eng 89-1published at 25 overs

Good stuff from Nathan Lyon, getting the ball to drift in to Mark Stoneman. Stoneman and Tim Paine then stand and furiously swipe their arms at a member of the crowd who opted to stand up right as Lyon walked in to bowl. Stoneman gets forward and flicks the ball dangerously towards Cameron Bancroft, who sticks out his boot but can't grab the rebound. A maiden.
