A mighty blow from Finch, the first six of the match as he clatters Rashid back over his head and just short of reaching the second tier.

Wise words, James. Here is Adil Rashid into the attack. He dismissed Steve Smith at the MCG.

Seeing Moeen turn a couple of balls, it might be a smart idea for Eoin Morgan to use Adil Rashid.

  6. Aus 69-1published at 12 overs

    Run rate 5.75

Australia captain Steve Smith is the new man in, but can't get off the mark yet, with just a leg bye to finish the over.

Good bit of captaincy getting the slip back in. A little bit of grip for Moeen there. It was a half-hearted prod from Warner and a really smart catch from Joe Root.

Breakthrough for England! Moeen gets a bit of grip and draws Warner into a lazy drive away from his body, the ball catching the edge and flying through to Root at first slip.

It's a good, sharp catch to his right from Root, who only just came back in to slip. Reward for some excellent tight bowling from Moeen so far.

Sally M: Just got done watching Kyle Edmund tough it out at @AustralianOpen, external and now it’s time for some @bbctms, external and the #AUSvENG, external ODI. Sounds like it might be a bit cooler in Brisbane than it is in Melbourne.

It's been a good start from Australia, they've not taken too many risks and it's a slight worry for England that these two are just getting the pace of the surface and scoring at a good rate so far.

  11. Aus 64-0published at 11 overs

    Warner 32, Finch 31

Finch tries to launch Plunkett down the ground but doesn't catch it cleanly and just about chips it over the leaping Woakes at mid-on. That was close but Finch gets four for it.

No disrespect to the bowlers but I think Eoin Morgan puts more faith in his batsmen to chase rather than his bowlers defending a score. It's going to be hot even into the evening. The pitch is going to stay similar and with the dew this evening it could skid on and become an even better batting surface.

  13. Aus 56-0published at 10 overs

Four dot balls and just two singles from Moeen's first over.

That's the powerplay over. Australia perhaps slightly ahead due to having not lost a wicket, but the hosts haven't completely raced away from England.

With scoring looking largely comfortable so far, Eoin Morgan turns to Moeen Ali, who bowled with notable control in the first ODI.

Australia have won six of their previous seven ODIs against England at the Gabba, including the past three.

  17. Aus 54-0published at 9 overs

Joe Root makes a diving stop at gully, it rebounds to Jason Roy, who shies at the stumps and hits...but Finch was back in his crease at the non-striker's end and Australia can then scurry two as the ball rebounds away. Needless.

Plunkett slides one down leg and Finch flicks it fine for four.

Both sides of the ground it's a short boundary straight. It's an odd-shaped ground, a bit similar to the MCG.

  20. Aus 45-0published at 8 overs

Make that three boundaries in a row for Australia as Finch pulls Woakes away in front of square to the fence.

Australia are looking to increase the rate in the powerplay after a slow-ish start, but Woakes does well to only concede one more from the rest of the over.
