  1. Aus 234-8published at 45.4 overs

Sorry Jake Ball but that's no good. A short ball with nothing on it and Tim Paine swivels and finds the rope.

Huge cheers from the home fans.

  2. Aus 228-8published at 45 overs

    Need 32 from 30 balls

Jake Ball doesn't look 100% but he is back on the field to bowl. Eoin Morgan will be breathing a big sigh of relief at that at least.

Five overs left, 32 runs needed. This new Perth Stadium has a thriller to mark its opening.

David Willey is doing a great job for England - building the dots and increasing the pressure on Australia.

  4. Aus 228-8published at 45 overs

    Need 32 from 30 balls

End of the over from Willey. Just one run from it and he could have had a wicket. Excellent

Willey has one over left. Tom Curran two and Jake Ball two. But will Ball be fit enough to bowl them?

That was so tight - the umpire was so sure it was out. He have it immediately.

  6. Not outpublished at 44.5 overs

It has pitched just outside leg! The decision is overturned. Zampa survives.

    Zampa given out lbw!

He reviews immediately. This is going to be tight. There's plenty of swing. Going down?

  8. Aus 227-8published at 10:58 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January 2018

    Need 33 from 33 balls

Three dots from David Willey. He's doing a fine job late on here.

  9. Aus 227-8published at 44 overs

    Need 33 from 36 balls

Here we go. Back to the cricket. David Willey to bowl. 33 from 36 needed.

Joe Root has indeed been given the signal to warm up.

This is turning into a lengthy delay now. It looks like Jake Ball is going to go off.

If he can't bowl his final two overs then who does? It's gotta be Joe Root?

Basharit Ali: England's fielding may have let them down. Can't afford any more dropped catches or mis-fields.

Jake doesn't look well, maybe he's dehydrated.

  13. Eng 227-8published at 44 overs

    Need 33 from 36 balls

This does not look good. Jake Ball is down on his knees and then topples over onto the turf. He looks faint.

Buttler and Eoin Morgan come over to help and on rushes the physio. Has the heat got to Ball? He's now up on his feet but is very red and is doing that wide opening of the eyes thing you do in these situations.

  14. Aus 227-8published at 44 overs

    Need 33 from 36 balls

Eight runs from Jake Ball's over. He bends over on his haunches at the end of the over. Hopefully just frustration not an injury. Morgan will have to find two overs from somewhere if Ball can't finish.

  15. Aus 225-8published at 43.4 overs

Not again! Jake Ball is back and is furious.

Moeen as had another stinker in the outfield. He's skidded past this one and let is spin over the boundary for four.

The fielding could cost England here.

Every dot ball is crucial for England. It puts pressure on the Australian batsmen to play bigger shots, which means more risk.

  17. Aus 219-8published at 43 overs

    Need 41 from 42 balls

Right-handed bat Zampa looks decent for a player with an average of just over six but he doesn't look likely to whack boundaries. Willey ends with two dots and a single.

I called for Neil Diamond earlier and here it is. "Sweeet Caroline... dum, dum duhhh." It's like a sunny night at Old Trafford.

  18. Aus 218-8published at 42.3 overs

Three runs to start Willey's over.

    42 from 45 needed.

England pride themselves on their fielding so they'll be disappointed to have dropped three chances today (Bairstow two, Hales one).

  20. Aus 215-8published at 42 overs

45 runs required from 48 balls

Ironic cheers come Alex Hales' way as he collects the ball safely on the ground a ball later. Hales needs the England bowlers to get him out of trouble.

David Willey is going to replace the brilliant Tom Curran.
