Curran was absolutely convinced that was out.

  3. England reviewpublished at 36.1 overs

This is close. A beaut from Tom Curran comes back a mile off the pitch and it hits Glenn Maxwell on the back pad.

The umpire says no but Tom Curran is certain. He wants a review and gets it.

  4. Aus 191-5published at 36 overs

69 runs required from 14 overs

Yelps from behind the stumps as Tim Paine fails to pick a Rashid googly. The Australia wicket-keeper then scores his first run with a scrappy single that Rashid can't prevent despite a good stop and that ends a run of seven consecutive dot balls.

Another over done and just two from it. Are we in for the first tight finish of the series or are those 14 unused deliveries going to cost England?

  5. Aus 189-5published at 15 overs

71 runs needed from 90 balls

Whatever you're doing stand and applaud David Willey. He has just bowled a maiden to Glenn Maxwell to keep the pressure on.

  6. Aus 189-5published at 34 overs

71 runs required from 16 overs

Tim Paine joins Glenn Maxwell in the middle. With Mitchell Starc, AJ Tye, Josh Hazlewood and Adam Zampa to come this is a big partnership.

You know a batsman is angry with himself when he removes his helmet and leaves the grille part resting on the top of his head. It's almost an admission of shame.

Stoinis has given away three figures there. It was a nice, juicy full toss which he dragged to the fielder.

    Big.

It's not the best delivery Adil Rashid will bowl but it's got him a wicket. For once Marcus Stoinis doesn't get hold of a full toss and he chips the ball down the ground to Tom Curran at long on. Curran actually takes a really good low catch as he runs round and celebrates with his arms aloft before some sort of silly dance. Not sure what that was about but I do know England are right in this game again.

  10. Aus 188-4published at 33.4 overs

Is it wrong for an Englishman to say he loves watching Glenn Maxwell in this situation?

He's just played an outrageous reverse sweep, swishing the bat in front of his face, and adds four more.

  11. Postpublished at 09:59 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January 2018

Adil Rashid will continue after drinks. He's bowled 0-47 from his eight overs so far. Wickets are needed.

England will rue that their batsman let them down with poor shots.

  13. drinks break

    Aus 183-4published at 33 overs

    Stoinis 86, Maxwell 28

It's getting a bit rowdy in the crowd. Not Sweet Caroline at Old Trafford kind of rowdy but there's something going on. The Bee Gees has just been played.

Stoinis is just a few swings of his big bat away from a century now as five comes from Willey's latest over. That's more than England can afford to give away.

That'll be drinks and Eoin Morgan needs to give a rousing speech to his troops.

  14. 6 runs

    Aus 178-4published at 32 overs

    Need 82 from 108 balls

Should David Willey do better here?

He's right on the long off boundary and Stoinis lofts a chipped drive down towards him but it goes through his finger tips for six. A taller man would have taken the catch. Bowler Adil Rashid is not happy and, judging by his reaction, thinks he should have a wicket in the bag.

  15. Aus 171-4published at 31 overs

Need 89 to win from 114 balls

Decent from David Willey who despite conceding a wide only goes for two more runs. One delivery is a really good in-dipping yorker from round the wicket that Stoinis only just gets his bat down on. More of that needed.

  16. Postpublished at 09:44 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January 2018

It's not Joe Root but David Willey now for England.

He has experience on this ground from an England Lions v Perth Scorchers game remember. How his skipper needs a wicket here.

Five singles and a two from Moeen's over and that's more than enough for Australia. Where can Morgan turn for a wicket? There's no Woakes or Wood remember. They've been rested while Liam Plunkett is also injured.

    Time for Joe Root?

Andy: Seems to have gone topsy-turvy with Australia v England, with Warner & Smith ineffective & Moeen finding his bowling mojo, Woakes his batting mojo & Rashid the most effective spinner!

  19. Aus 161-4published at 29 overs

    Stoinis 72, Maxwell 21

As ever when you are defending a low total, once a partnership builds England desperately need a wicket. This stand is now worth 28 in good time.

  20. Aus 159-4published at 28.4 overs

More runs for the Big Show. Surely Glenn Maxwell should have been in this Aussie team from the start?!

A bouncer from Ball and he guides it over the top of Buttler for four.

    There's no stopping that.
