That was just the break England needed. 34 runs off 24 balls. Squeaky bum time.

That's so unfortunate for Santner as he was timing the ball so well. Perfect timing for England as New Zealand were firmly in control of the game.

    Santner run out Woakes 41

Kane Williamson cracks one straight back down the ground and the ball brushes the fingertips of Chris Woakes and on to the stumps at the non-striker's end. Mitchell Santner is backing up and out of his ground.

The umpires double check Woakes definitely got a touch the ball and the television replays are conclusive. Santner is on his way.

A potentially huge moment for England.

Can you blame Rashid for turning his back on red-ball cricket when he gets ignored by the Test selectors? I've always said we don't know how to use a leggy at the right time in Tests. He should be given more chances. He's an attacking bowler. Not one to hold an end up.

  6. NZ 199-6published at 45 overs

    Target 235

New Zealand feel like they are in cruise control as they casually knock the ball round. But all of a sudden a slower off-cutter from Tom Curran sticks in the pitch and spoons up in the point region. Jason Roy dives full length but is unable to get a hand on it. From Curran's next ball Kane Williamson flicks one in the air but Roy is on the edge of the circle and the ball races past him for four. A few England players with hands on hopes now.

Kane Williamson said at the toss that the dew factor was one of his reasons for fielding first. It looks like the dew is making the ball skid on a little better under the lights.

  9. Eng 190-6published at 44 overs

Adil Rashid is finished and collects a very respectable 2-34 from his 10 overs. He turned the game on its head alongside Moeen Ali, but England's seamers are going to have to win it from this point.

"Come on Tommy" shouts Jos Buttler from behind the stumps as he encourages Tom Curran mid-over. But England are not getting the breaks as the left-handed Mitchell Santner pushes it wide of mid-off and to the boundary. Curran runs his hand though his blond hair with a frustrated look on his face.

Eoin Morgan must be getting twitchy now and turns to Adil Rashid. But Kane Williamson knows Rashid from a stint at Yorkshire and he's not taking any risks against his former team-mate.

I think this is going to be a tight game. It's the stadium where the Lions and the All Blacks had such a tight game in 2017 - the Lions won 24-21.

  15. NZ 175-6published at 41 overs

    Target 235

Kane Williamson and Mitchell Santner have now put on 72 for the seventh wicket. Santner dispatches Ben Stokes' second delivery back over his head and with mid-on and mid-off it bounces once before crossing the boundary rope. Stokes cuts a frustrated future as he collects his cap with seven runs taken from the over.

Mark Wood rushes in with purpose off his brisk run up but New Zealand pair Kane Williamson and Mitchell Santner are happy to just knock him around for singles. 10 overs left, and the hosts require 67 runs.

All-rounder Ben Stokes also back in the fray, but he gives Kane Williamson a freebie on his hips first up which the Black Caps skipper flicks round the corner and the ball whistles away to the boundary. Stokes chunters under his breath - he knows he has to be better.
