This is where I disagree with the soft signal. The umpire was 60 metres away - get rid of the soft signal, let's just worry about getting the right decision rather than a soft signal from a guy who can't see it.

50 for Kane Williamsonpublished at 07:08 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March 2018

Kane Williamson becomes he first player in the match to reach a half-century. He brings it up off 69 deliveries.

    Target 235

Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid bowling beautifully in tandem here. The former bowls round the wicket to Mitchell Santner over the wickets to Kane Williamson and the Kiwi batsmen takes a low-risk strategy to rotate the strike.

  4. Not outpublished at 07:05 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March 2018

It's a great effort from Jason Roy but there's not enough evidence from the video replays to suggest he has caught it cleanly. Mitchell Santner survives.

The soft signal was "not out", but that's carried. The fingers are underneath the ball - if you've played the game, you give this out. But I'm not sure he's going to...

Mitchell Santner chips one off Adil Rashid into the covers off the toe of his bat and Jason Roy dives forward to take the catch. But has he caught it cleanly? The soft signal is not out and Roy doesn't look convinced.

All five of the remaining New Zealand batsmen - these two at the crease plus Southee, Sodhi and Boult - have played together for Northern Districts. They'll trust their captain. I might give Mark Wood an over or two of genuine pace at Mitchell Santner now, make him feel uncomfortable.

  9. NZ 109-6published at 27 overs

    Williams 44, Santner 1

A tight over from Moeen Ali with two singles milked off it as Mitchell Santner get himself off the mark.

I thought 220 was decent, 230 was very good. Paul Farbrace said on TV just after Munro was out that England would be in the game if they could get New Zealand at 100-4.

  11. NZ 107-6published at 26 overs

    Target 235

All of a sudden the hard yards England's batsmen put in earlier in the day looks worth it. This is not an easy pitch to bat on. It's a combination of good bowling, and some poor shot selection that has got England on top here. Kane Williamson edges closer to a half-century after he pushes Adil Rashid through the covers for two and then works him off his legs.

There's only some times you can say "that's the way I play" and get away with it. That's irresponsible from Colin de Grandhomme. In the time it took me to walk from the TV box to the radio box, New Zealand lost three wickets - I didn't think it was that far!

    De Grandhomme c Woakes b Moeen 3 (NZ 103-6)

New Zealand are like a boxer on the ropes, a few more punches and they will be out for the count. Kane Williamson can scarcely believe what is happening as wickets tumble around him. Colin de Grandhomme attempts to launch Moeen Ali over the top and simply lofts it straight into the grateful hands of Chris Woakes at long-on.

Good tight stuff from Adil Rashid and Colin de Grandhomme resists the urge to be more attacking and just two runs are taken off the over. Moeen Ali continues at the other end.

There's two ways of going about this - you either soak up the pressure, like Williamson, or you counter-attack like De Grandhomme. This is the perfect chance for England to build pressure, and the more the game goes on, the surface is starting to turn, which is good for England.

  16. NZ 101-5published at 23 overs

    Target 235

Moeen is not quite able to bag his hat-trick and New Zealand look to counter attack a little as Colin de Grandhomme plays a risky shot over the top and gets away with it. If England can just get Kane Williamson then the Kiwis might fold quicker than my uncle's origami shop.

  17. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 22 overs

    Nicholls lbw b Rashid 0 (NZ 98-5)

More brilliance from England's spinners while New Zealand are imploding. Three wickets in eight balls. A big leg-break from Rashid which Henry Nicholls immediately reviewed perhaps thinking he has been given out caught by Joe Root at slip. However, the ball had clipped his pad. From cruising at 80-1 to a serious wobble at 98-5.

We've got lbw in play here - and the catch. The lbw shout looks pretty good, but he reviewed it straight away. I don't know whether he was assuming he'd been given out caught at slip, but he's gone. A strange review.

After Moeen gets the breakthrough, Adil Rashid follows up with a wicket of his after Henry Nicholls is given out lbw. However, Nicholls reviews it.

The game's been turned on its head by these three quick wickets. Latham looked exceptional in Hamilton, that's a big wicket for England. They've certainly got themselves back in this game with some smart bowling from Rashid and Moeen, the spin twins are doing a job.
