  1. NZ 158-6published at 38 overs

    Target 235

Mark Wood, selected ahead of David Willey today, returns to the attack. He looked pretty ineffective first up as New Zealand used the pace of the ball but he is more useful here. Three runs off the over.

Moeen's bowled beautifully tonight, picked up three wickets. A great spell - he's done all he can for the team, now it's up to Mark Wood. If Williamson goes - or if Santner goes - it's probably New Zealand's chances over.

It remains one of the mysteries why the PA announcer played the Coronation Street theme here, and in Hamilton, when Chris Woakes was dismissed. But Woakes is from Birmingham, not Manchester. The tune is called "Lancashire Blue" - does he have the wrong county written down?

Where are England going to find this key wicket?

They've still got two overs of spin from Rashid. But this run chase was made for Williamson.

    Williamson 70, Santner 20

Moeen Ali's final over passes off without incident. New Zealand looking in total control now.

This umpire at square leg, when he signals a wide, lifts his arms right up like Dracula spreading his cape...

  7. NZ 153-6published at 3 overs

    Target 235

Chris Woakes sends down an aerial wide which Mitchell Santner ducks under. The hosts add four more runs to the total as Kane Williamson and Santner bring up the fifty partnership. Moeen Ali now to send down his final over.

If you are just waking up, England made 234 on a tricky batting pitch after losing the toss. Eoin Morgan (48) top scored with support from Ben Stokes (39) before cameos from Jos Buttler (29) and Moeen Ali (23).

New Zealand had been 80-1 before England's spinners wrestled the initiative back to the tourists as they Black Caps collapsed to 103-6.

  9. NZ 149-6published at 35 overs

    Target 235

Another economical over from Moeen Ali with just the three off it. Ben Stokes claps and encourages his team-mates before a quick discussion with fellow senior players Eoin Morgan and Jos Buttler. They need to hatch a plan to get rid of Kane Williamson.

Often I wake up and tune in just as England squander a strong position. The last half hour has been a welcome change!

  11. NZ 146-6published at 34 overs

    Target 235

Chris Woakes sends down the first extra of New Zealand's innings as he drops one a little wide. A couple of balls later Mitchell Santner gets on the front foot and drives the Warwickshire all-rounder straight down the ground and he and Kane Williamson run three. Batting looks a lot easier all of a sudden and this pair look well set.

Bairdy: The talk is that Williamson is key here but I disagree, for me, the wicket of Santner is the more important.

  13. NZ 138-6published at 33 overs

    Target 235

Plenty of pinks and purples in the skies over the Wespac Stadium as the sun goes down and the lights of the city start to twinkle. Moeen Ali bowls a tight over, before Eoin Morgan turns to Chris Woakes. New Zealand need 97 runs off 102 balls, England need four wickets.

Every team has great players to watch, but I think we're blessed at the moment with the likes of Kane Williamson, Joe Root, Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, and Babar Azam who's a fantastic player for Pakistan.

  15. NZ 136-6published at 32 overs

    Target 235

Not the best of starts from Joe Root. He drops his second delivery a little short and Kane Williamson is too much of a class act to miss out. He swivels on to the back foot and pulls him through midwicket with ease. Seven runs off Root's first over. New Zealand starting to regain their composure.

  16. NZ 129-6published at 31 overs

    Target 235

Oh close! Mitchell Santner edges Moeen Ali's last delivery but it goes wide of Jos Buttler's gloves. If England had a first slip in there it would have been another wicket. Joe Root into the attack.

Mitchell Santner is a scratch golfer. Very good to watch.

  19. NZ 124-6published at 30 overs

    Target 235

Adil Rashid has 2-26 from eight overs. That's mightly impressive figures from the leg-spinner but this over is a little loose and off the final ball of the over Mitchell Santer confidently strikes his him through the covers.

After that flurry of wickets the Black Caps are starting to settle down a bit.

Is it time to start taking fielders' words for it, as it used to be?

Simon Doull: I'm not sure there are enough around who are honest. Jason Roy is an honest character, but he didn't know. There might be a bit of the ball touching a blade of grass, but you can still take it cleanly.
