    CELEBRAPPEAL!

Stuart Broad is convinced he's got Usman Salahuddin out, as is the umpire. But the batsman reviews...

    Anderson 9-5-12-1

Shadab gets his wrists and bat in a tangle as he tries to keep a fuller James Anderson delivery off his toes.

He ends the over with a big ol' heave at a wide delivery, and just about avoids getting a nick through to the keeper.

It's a good field setting from Joe Root. There were no obvious gaps for singles so Sarfraz tried to play across the line and hit it squarer than he should have done.

    Sarfraz b Anderson 14 (Pak 78-5)

    Full, straight - and gone!

That is emphatically out. James Anderson gets the ball to hold it's line and Sarfraz, trying to flick the ball of his pads, ends up getting his middle stump splattered out of the ground. There's the tiniest of deflections off the pad, but Sarfraz has just played around that.

This is the barest outfield I've seen at Headingley, it almost looks like an end of season square.

  8. Pak 78-4published at 28 overs

There are so many people tucking into ice creams at Headingley. I'm in no way jealous.

Oh, shot! Width from Stuart Broad, and Sarfraz plonks his foot forward and whacks it away through the covers for four. Broad readjusts, and this time a ping off the pads brings the batsman a single.

Stuart Broad, who has figures of 2-23 from his nine overs, is coming on for a bowl.

    Sarfraz 9, Salahuddin 3

Sarfraz works a single away, before James Anderson greets debutant Usman Salahuddin with a delivery that nips back and thwacks into his thigh.

The duo jog a leg bye, and that'll be that for the over.

I can guarantee over the last few days England will have had many team meetings. They'll have been talking about getting back to the basics.

A little push off the back foot from Sarfraz, and he and Salahuddin jog two to get things going again.

Big smiles on England's faces as they take up their fielding positions. Must have had a good lunch.

It'll be James Anderson to get this session under way.

Here we go - the batsmen are making their way out to the middle, followed by England's fielders.

Pakistan have got a bit of work to do here - they're in a bit of a pickle at 68-4. This looks a decent batting track, though.

  15. 'The public were phenomenal'published at 13:37 British Summer Time 1 June 2018

James Taylor on his book and the changes in his life: "People, as a result of reading it, hopefully will realise that there is life after the one you know, whether that be you’ve been forced to stop playing sport or life’s taken a u-turn.

"Hopefully they’ll learn a little bit through my experience. Life is a good option to have and remain positive and embrace a challenge.

"I’ve always been good with change. This was a slightly more dramatic situation, but you’ve got to remain positive and have a good support network.

"I was always incredibly positive when I played. Social media can be a really horrible place to be involved in. But I was very fortunate that the public were amazing.

"I had 24 million tweets in the first two hours after the news broke. The reception was phenomenal."

England's catching came under some serious scrutiny at Lord's, where they put down five catches in one day.

Alastair Cook held on to this one, though, as Pakistan went into lunch on 68-4.

  18. 'A captain is only as good as his players'published at 13:26 British Summer Time 1 June 2018

Former England batsman James Taylor on Joe Root and captaincy: "Joe had no experience leading into the role. He will have had to learn quickly.

"The captain is only as good as his players. If the players aren’t performing then the captain is going to look poor. It’s a tough role, especially when you have no experience.

"He’ll have learnt a hell of a lot over the last year. There’s no doubt that he was, and is, the right man to do the job.

What makes a good captain? "I think somebody that commands respect, that is able to hold the dressing room and when he speaks, people listen.

"I think someone that leads from the front, which Joe does. All the others, the tactical genius side of things, that will come with experience and having that confidence to do things your way, which I think he's going to learn as time goes on."

Pakistan opted to bat on winning the toss this morning, and shots like these show what a good pitch this is...

But it wasn't long before Chris Wokes, newly reinstated into the Test side, got in on the action.

  20. 'Trying to run before they can walk'published at 13:20 British Summer Time 1 June 2018

Former England batsman James Taylor, speaking to BBC Sport: "England have obviously got some world class players at the moment, and they’re struggling for form and maybe a few technical things.

"What Pakistan did incredibly well at Lord's was do the basics better than England last game. England need to stick to their basics for longer, and do what they’re doing better, for longer.

"I coach England under-19s. Sometimes, the juniors are the same – they can run before they can walk."
