England coach Trevor Bayliss on Dom Bess and Sam Curran: "They have the attitude of wanting to get out and compete. They're not afraid to show what they've got and not afraid to speak up in the changing room. They've got a way to go yet at this level but have shown some great signs."

    Mohammad Abbas - 10 wickets at 14.20

Pakistan's Mohammad Abbas, speaking through a translator (Wasim Akram): "There was disappointment at Lord's that I didn't get the 5-for which would have gotten me on the honours board but it was nice to win. The cherry on the cake would have been a series win."

  5. 'We have phenomenal talent'published at 17:24 British Summer Time 3 June 2018

More from Mickey Arthur: "For us to grow as a team we need someone in the top six getting 100s consistently.

"Dropping Jos Buttler on four was a big opportunity of course but drops happen.

"Most of the boys have improved themselves in my eyes, I cannot fault the effort.

"The talent we have is phenomenal, we are just striving for consistency."

  6. Postpublished at 17:22 British Summer Time 3 June 2018

More from Trevor Bayliss to TMS: "It's about trying to get the guys to play in this manner more often - they might need reminding every so often that if we slip then we can be embarrassed. That happened at Lord's. So maybe we just remind them what the feeling is like when we lose and what it's like when we win.

About views he should step down as Test coach to focus one-day role: "I didn't read the papers but you can guess what was said from questions you get in press conferences. I can't do anything about that. We go about things how we do, we haven't changed what we've spoken about, we didn't say anything different from last week to this game.

"I'm going to keep doing things the way I've done them, if it's not to other people's taste then so be it. I'm just worried about waking up tomorrow still breathing."

By the way, there is still some live cricket going on - you can take your pick of One-Day Cup action over here.

  8. Postpublished at 17:19 British Summer Time 3 June 2018

Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur, speaking to Sky Sports: "It was a poor display from us, after the display at Lord's I am incredibly disappointed with what we have served up today. We are trying to get over inconsistency.

"As long as the guys are learning from it, it is a young dressing room. Inconsistency is what comes from a young team, as annoying as it is.

"We got the balance wrong here, we weren’t patient enough."

  9. 'Jos is a special player'published at 17:17 British Summer Time 3 June 2018

Trevor Bayliss on Jos Buttler: "He's a special player and has shown us in the series what he's capable of. He's probably played innings people weren't expecting - he was very watchful, let the ball come on, got in and then can flick the switch and go. He's a great guy to have in the team, a good fielder and adds a lot in the dressing room."

  10. 'We showed what we are about'published at 17:13 British Summer Time 3 June 2018

England spinner Dom Bess, speaking to Test Match Special: "I was very relieved to get my Test wicket. It's one of the best feelings you'll ever have.

"I wasn't too nervous when it got reviewed but I was surprised it was umpire's call - I thought it was absolutely stone dead.

"I love being here. The opportunity these two weeks has been phenomenal, just to know I can play at this level and do well. To be 20 years old and playing for your country, it's amazing and everyone has been so welcoming.

"It feels very good to win for England, we've been put under the pump quite a bit after last week but here we showed what we are about. The bowlers were always in the game - no one went on to get a big one but we had good partnerships with the bat."

    Michael Vaughan
Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special

We can't see England start slow against India, get criticism and then bounce back. It happened last year against South Africa. We expect more consistency and I don't think we're wrong for asking for that. When you see this performance compared to Lord's and the only difference is they've had a rocket and a couple of things said about them they don't like, the body language is different and I want to see that every match.

  12. 'We had a quiet chat after Lord's'published at 17:10 British Summer Time 3 June 2018

England head coach Trevor Bayliss, speaking to TMS: "We've seen this before - we've played badly in the past and it's really focused the guys for the next game. The trick is to get them focused and with that much energy for every game.

"We had a quiet chat after Lord's, we didn't have to say much, they had a very honest discussion in the changing room and they know they didn't play well enough.

"To be honest I don't listen to what's said in the media much at all. Everyone is allowed their opinion and whatever it takes to get yourself motivated is fine. But I couldn't care less."

They'll probably say they didn't do anything differently here but everything about the England team looked like they were on it this week. They batted with determination and concentration. They had the right fielders in the right positions. It's always easier when your team is on top so I ask the team now for more consistency.

  14. 'Bess bowled well today'published at 17:05 British Summer Time 3 June 2018

BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

More from Joe Root: "Trevor Bayliss told me Dom Bess had his pads on for 45 minutes, ready to go in as nightwatchman. He wants to be involved and you want people like that in the team. I thought he bowled really well today, exploiting the conditions.

"It was a promising debut from Sam Curran. Obviously there were a few nerves going round but he bowled well in partnerships and created pressure.

"We don't have a Test for a while but it's very important we continue to put that work in outside of being together as a group. It's up to individuals to keep improving and I'm going to make that very clear to everyone when they head off today."

A word for England's fielding, too, which was significantly improved from Lord's.

    Michael Vaughan
Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special

It's been a fantastic performance by England. They just looked like a team that had the bit between their teeth. They were upset by comments made during the week but they are a high-level team playing against an inexperienced Pakistan at Lord's so they should've expected that.

A reminder that Michael Vaughan will be taking your calls on 6-Duck-6 this evening. The programme, on at 18:00 BST, will be available on BBC Radio 5 live or online. Call free on 08085 909693 or text 85058 at your standard rate.

  17. 'Buttler is a class player'published at 17:01 British Summer Time 3 June 2018

England captain Joe Root, speaking to TMS: "Jos Buttler is a class player, you watch him play in ODIs and he works things out very quickly. This is a great role for him in this team, he's adaptable and showed what he can do when we get in strong positions like today.

"If he bats for two hours like he did at the end of his innings today then we're going to make good scores even bigger very quickly."

  18. Postpublished at 16:59 British Summer Time 3 June 2018

England might not play red-ball cricket until August, but Pakistan don't play another Test until December. Seems a shame that we don't have a decider.

  19. 'I am excited again'published at 16:58 British Summer Time 3 June 2018

    BBC Test Match Special

More from England captain Joe Root: "We know we've got really good competition in India for the rest of the summer and we're going to have to be adaptable like we were with the bat here. It was a tough surface but we were clever how we went about it. I am excited again.

"There will be a time when Stuart Broad and Michael Vaughan need to have a bottle of wine and chat about it. Ultimately it's about performing in the field for a player, that's your job and that's what Stuart did this week. He bowled really well in New Zealand and this is hopefully a good place for him to move forward from.

"He's proven for a long time he's really good at this level. He just needs to keep using his drive and hunger to carry on."
