This has been a terrific performance from Adil Rashid. He hasn't conceded a boundary from his six overs so far.

Three speedy singles are all that Australia can work from his latest oer.

The Australian lower-order do have some strong facial hair going on. Kane Richardson leads the way, for me.

Anyway, Adil Rashid is back on as England look to end this quickly.

My first observation of Michael Neser is that he's got a lovely beard.

  5. Aus 175-6published at 37 overs

Ashton Agar works a single from the final delivery to keep the strike.

That's a big breakthrough. If Australia were going to post a total that was even a bit tricky for England to chase, they needed Glenn Maxwell to go on.

That catch ended an 84-run partnership between Agar and Maxwell. Timely.

Up next, it's Michael Neser, on his ODI debut.

Well done Jonny Bairstow, a very well-judged catch. A very innocuous delivery by Liam Plunkett and Glenn Maxwell tried to manoeuvre it into the gap but found the man.

    Gone!

That's a cracking catch from Jonny Bairstow in the deep. Glenn Maxwell tries a little flick off his toes but doesn't get hold of the ball properly and Bairstow, charging around to his right, takes a fine catch on the move.

Simon Adams: Australia won't be pleased with their start but Maxwell is batting them into it. They'll be taking the 'rough with the smooth'.

I can vouch for Hector (14:29). There were a few of us in Coogee with them and to a man they said that Moeen offered no threat whatsoever. What a difference an in-form Moeen would have made over the winter...

    Maxwell 59, Agar 26

It just feels as though Glenn Maxwell is biding his time.

He and Ashton Agar club David Willey's latest over for a handful of singles. Maxwell is then left chuntering to himself as a leaping Jason Roy at cover cuts off a ball that was destined for the boundary.

Carl Hooper was the best batsman I ever saw at getting ready to be next in.

He'd put all his pads on then go to sleep and get a nudge when he needed to go out.

  15. Aus 166-5published at 35 overs

What's on the cards for Australia, then? Things look better than it did for them at 90-5.

Ashton Agar has been struggling to rotate the strike, but he manages to work a single and Glenn Maxwell promptly pulls Liam Plunkett through backward square for four.

Dave Bundy: Whilst England are psyching themselves up to the strains of Jerusalem, apparently the choice of pre-match motivation in the Aussie dressing room is Metallica's Enter Sandman...

  17. Aus 158-5published at 34 overs

Close! Ashton Agar finally gives in to temptation and pulls a Mark Wood short ball, but he's hurried through the shot and ends up top edging it down to the boundary.

Jonny Bairstow is lurking, but he can't get to the ball quick enough, and Agar and Maxwell jog two instead.

Mark Wood turns and pleads with umpire Rob Bailey as he strikes Glenn Maxwell on the pad.

That's high, though, and Eoin Morgan opts against the review. The technology shows that ball would have been pinging over the stumps.

It's been strange the way the game has flowed. Australia made a good start off the seamers but then the spinners came on and took wickets. Then Australia started scoring more off the spinners but are now finding it hard to score off the seamers. It's tough to know exactly how good this pitch is.

  20. Aus 154-5published at 33 overs

Ashton Agar helps his mate celebrate his half-century by flicking Liam Plunkett through mid-wicket for four.

Four more! That's a fine bit of work from Agar, leaning back and cutting and Adil Rashid, fielding down on the boundary, ends up escorting the ball into the rope.
