This is the time for consolidation for England so no wonder Morgan is looking to steady the ship. He has Stokes who can play big shots so understandable England do not want to lose any more wickets.

    Raina 2-1-3-0

Drinks over and done with, and Suresh Raina is going to try and hustle through some cheap overs.

He bowls quickly, hurrying the ball in to Ben Stokes, who can do little more than cover up in defence. He pushes a single towards long-on before Eoin Morgan flays him for one run to end the over.

It's not just the fact Kuldeep is hard to pick - he lands it brilliantly and hardly ever misses his length. Usually leg spinners bowl some bad balls but he doesn't.

Time for England to take a brief breather and reassess a few things.

Kuldeep Yadav took those three top-order wickets in 10 balls. Impressive stuff.

England bowler on BBC Test Match Special

It's a good thing England are batting first because I think it's going to spin more as the game goes on. They have not picked Kuldeep which is worrying, he is spinning it a lot both ways.

  6. Eng 83-3published at 15 overs

Ben Stokes, in at five, is going to have to work out how to play Kuldeep Yadav.

He pushes and goes charging for a single, having to dive to make his gronud as Hardik Pandya pings in a return from cover. Stokes makes it home, but he's ruined his batting gloves in the process.

Since the end the Champions Trophy last year, five England batsmen are averaging over 50, the one who isn't is Morgan.

  8. Eng 82-3published at 14 overs

More spin for England to contend with, as Suresh Raina is brought into the attack.

Raina promptly works his way through a quick maiden, not allowing England any respite.

Kuldeep Yadav on this tour - two T20s in Ireland, two against England and today's match - has 15 wickets in 16.2 overs for 102 runs, a strike-rate of a wicket every six-and-a-half balls!

  10. Eng 82-3published at 13 overs

Kuldeep Yadav has the genuinely brilliant figures of 2-0-7-3.

An amazing delivery, Bairstow didn't pick it at all, he got out to a golden duck in Manchester and it was the same again.

  12. wicket

Bairstow lbw Kuldeep 38 (Eng 82-3)

Well, I'd make a terrible umpire, and Kuldeep Yadav has two wickets in the over!

It looked as though that ball was going to turn too much, but it's clattering into the stumps. It was the googly from Kuldeep Yadav and Jonny Bairstow misread it completely. He pressed forward, trying to push the ball through the leg side, and instead he ended up swatting at fresh air.

    England are wobbling.

I believe he played down the wrong line but it might be turning too much.

  15. India reviewpublished at 13:31 British Summer Time 12 July 2018

    Hello, we're going upstairs.

Jonny Bairstow doesn't pick Kuldeep Yadav's googly. India think they've got him lbw.

  16. Eng 82-2published at 12.3 overs

Eoin Morgan has arrived at the crease, and drives a leisurely single to get off the mark.

That Joe Root dismissal, incidentally, was hitting middle stump. It just looked horribly out.

It was a quicker, flatter delivery and Root seemed to have played for the trajectory rather than the length. It deceived him completely and he played down the wrong line.

  18. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 12.1 overs

Root lbw Kuldeep 3 (Eng 81-2)

That's out. That's really very out.

Oh, Joe Root. He doesn't read the delivery from Kuldeep Yadav, shuffling back into his crease, and the ball just skids on. Root tries a late whip of the bat, doesn't get anywhere near it, and he's clattered on the pads, right in front of the stumps. Root doesn't even consider the review as he walks off.

India are putting the squeeze on now, Chahal varying his line and pace, and England manage to whip a single here and there.

My colleague has just pointed out that Chahal has a decent bowling average of 21.83 - and a slightly less impressive batting average of 1.00.
