I don't know whether Alex Hales has got a problem with his side or a problem not being in the side, I find it harsh on him if he was going to miss out. He strikes them so well. I guess it's the strength of the England one-day set-up, there are quite a few players not playing who would easily have got into teams of the past.

It's quite interesting that Eoin Morgan said England had made the decision not to play Alex Hales before he injured himself in training yesterday.

It's a nice conundrum for England to be in - having too many batsmen rather than not enough.

England's Joe Root on Sky Sports: "You never want to be left out. It's been a frustrating summer. I always try and play the situation in front of me.

"I don't think I'm playing poorly. It is just about believing in everything I am doing and when I get the opportunity I can make a big score. I can't complain too much though, it was brilliant to beat Australia 5-0. Hopefully I can contribute more in this series."

Trent Bridge is a good ground for England.

They posted 481-6 against Australia last time out; three years ago they completed what was then a record run-chase to beat New Zealand.

In fact, they haven't lost an ODI at Trent Bridge since India beat them by six wickets back in 2014.

If you're coming to Trent Bridge, try to do it by train. Nottingham station is just a short walk away. Left out of platform seven, directed by volunteers in blue shirts, then a right. Past Meadow Lane, towards the river, then across the water with the City Ground on the left. Street sellers offer flags, horns and scarves, mostly in India colours. Punters spill out of pubs. No one mentions the football.

England captain Eoin Morgan: "We'd like to have chased. It's a different challenge today though, the wicket looks good and we're looking forward to posting a big total. With Alex Hales hurting himself in training, Joe Root moves up to number three and Ben Stokes gives a better balance to our side at number five."

With no Alex Hales for England, Eoin Morgan says Joe Root will bat at three and Ben Stokes will be in at five.

India captain Virat Kohli: "We've chased well in the T20 series and we're comfortable with the strength of our batting. Our wrist spinners will play a big role in the middle overs and we bank on our bowlers to do the job. We're backing our strengths."

The main news this morning is that Alex Hales has been ruled out of today's match with a side injury.

Hales will be monitored on a match-by-match basis, and has been replaced by Dawid Malan in the squad.

It's raining. England are out of the World Cup. We've all had to put a light jacket on for the first time in about a month.

Let's forget about all that.

The top two one-day sides are about to face off at Trent Bridge - a ground at which England racked up 481-6 the last time they played there.
