    Andy Zaltzman
    BBC Test Match Special statistician

Ben Stokes' fifty came from 102 balls, with two fours.

It's the second slowest 50 in one-day cricket since the 2015 World Cup. The only player with a slower fifty is MS Dhoni, who made a half-century from 108 balls against West Indies in July last year.

Siddarth is only recorded at 82mph but is surprises Moeen and strikes him on the top of the lid. Stokes completes fifty.

Moeen has to maneuver himself around the crease and put a few questions into the bowler's mind.

Stokes is still there but he is cutting a frustrated figure, unbeaten on 49 from 101 balls and only a handful of singles result from Yadav's seventh over.

Why can't England - or anyone - pick a leg spinner these days?

  6. Eng 209-5published at 42 overs

    Run-rate 4.97

Stokes connects with a sweep at Chahal but there is neat work on the boundary and it restricts him to a single. Eight overs without a boundary now and the spinner finishes with 1-51 from his 10.

Mike: England’s fearless batting didn’t stay too fearless against decent spin.

Marc Webb: Can't see England reaching 300 today, we just cannot play good spin bowling. India will trample all over us in one-day and Test series I fear!

  8. Eng 205-5published at 41 overs

    Stokes 46, Moeen 3

Kuldeep's penultimate over and he maintains his impressive record of not being hit for a boundary. A prodigiously spinning ball rips off the pitch and beats the tentative lunge of Stokes, turning sharply away a la Warne.

The fact this wicket is turning a bit gives England some hope in this game. I firmly believe that. England's strength with the ball has been Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid for the past 12 months.

  10. Eng 202-5published at 40 overs

    run-rate 5.05

The end of a 93-run partnership in 19.4 overs and Moeen Ali is the new man as England seek a strong finish. The 200 up for England and the slowest fifty of the innings, this one taking 72 balls. Stokes tries a reverse sweep at Chahal but it is not happening for the England all-rounder, who has hit only two fours to date in his 45 from 91 balls. What can they muster from the final 10 overs?

Kuldeep has bowled himself into the Test squad. They'd be crackers not to put him in because the England batsman blatantly can't pick him. Joe Root, Bairstow, Stokes can't pick him - Jos Buttler, who has just got strangled down the leg side off him, is the only one who can pick him.

That felt like a soft dismissal, really, but that's what the leg spinner can do.

Another chapter in the Kuldeep saga and he has got the prize wicket of Buttler, caught down the leg-side, 4-20 from eight overs for the left-arm wrist spinner.

A burst of sunshine bathes Trent Bridge and illuminates Pandya's gold chain and earrings. Two leg-side wides from the medium pacer but he has sent down 20 dot balls in his seven overs and keeps the boundaries at bay.

England, when they are playing poorly, allow too many dot balls. When you're struggling to time the ball, at least pick up the singles and get your partner back on strike.

  17. Eng 192-4published at 37 overs

Only singles in the Siddarth over. In that world record 481 against the Australians England hit 21 sixes and 41 fours but so far today we have seen only two maximums and 20 fours. A much stronger proposition are India of course, having not lost an ODI series since January 2016.

England needed a partnership. Buttler has regained some momentum for England. They have a platform to launch from now.

50 for Buttlerpublished at 36 overs

    Eng 188-4

Another fifty for Buttler, it has come from 45 balls and it his 18th in his 115th ODI. He has only been dismissed twice this summer and he will be hoping for a third century of the year, following hundreds home and away against the Australians.

There a real clarity to Jos Buttler's game at the moment. The way he gets his head over the ball and transfers his weight is perfect.
