This is Adil Rashid's 10th over of the match. It has been one of his more consistent spells since his return to Test cricket.

England have a young sub fielder on for the injured Jonny Bairstow - he's been sent for an X-ray on his finger if you haven't heard. The youngster shows excellent commitment to the cause by diving in the muck and dust at mid-wicket to save a couple of runs. Well done, sir.

There'll be one more over before lunch.

Nick Gee: It’s the year 2056. After a poor start to the series England are in need of runs. They call on Ian Bell.

When Joe Root won the toss and chose to field, you can't imagine that having to bowl himself before lunch on the third day was in his plans.

    Hold on a minute, Joe!

A minute ago Adil Rashid's field was spread everywhere. He just had one slip.

Root brings himself on for his first bowl of the summer and he's given himself a slip, leg slip and short leg! Remarkable. Talk about perks of the job. He bowls a wretched full toss at the end of the over.

I must admit I've not seen Michael Pepper bat. Good name though.

Joe Root is going to bowl himself!

Mickey Wallis: Morgan? Gubbins? If we’re gonna go with youth what about Essex’s Michael Pepper? He got 68 and matched Kohli’s score in the warm-up game after all?

  7. Ind 185-2published at 56 overs

England just have the two slips to Stuart Broad now. It's getting to the stage when they're just waiting for a mistake or a declaration. The bad thing is that declaration is hours and hours away. India are in no need to rush anything. They have scored 61 runs in 25 overs today.

Peter in Yalding: Surprised nobody has mentioned Denly as a possible replacement. He's been in great form all season and Pope can move back down closer to where he bats for Surrey.

Virat Kohli has been irresistible today. This is as close as he has come to getting out. It was some decision from Marais Erasmus if he heard/saw that inside edge...

Basically these Indians are having a high intensity net session because there is no pressure from England, they haven't got any close fielders for Rashid.

And now Virat Kohli follows Pujara to his half-century. He's so, so good. He's got more than enough time to make up for missing out on a hundred in the first innings.

Good knock for Pujara, he has not had a great record in England. He got a good high five from his captain, who is obviously talking to him again after that run out at Lord's.

    Form is temporary...

Cheteshwar Pujara's is rewarded for his patience. He gets to his 50 with a clip off the hip. He gets a big punch of the gloves from his captain.

Dave Roche: Bring Burns in to open the batting, drop Jennings and give Joe Clarke a go to replace Bairstow if injury rules him out. Fresh faces to the England side maybe just what it needs.

That's a better over from Rashid. England aren't happy with the shape of the ball but have been told to get on with it.

Those two boundaries in the previous over have seen Kohli catch up to Pujara. Kohli's 46 runs have come from 78 balls compared to the 144 balls Pujara has faced for his 49. Pujara is in no rush.

Some excellent crowd noises in the Broad over to Kohli. "Shoottttt," as the India skipper plays a dreamy cover drive. "Ooooohhhh" after the inside edge, repeated with each replay shown on the big screen.

What a shot that is. Is there a batman more pleasing on the eye than Virat Kohli these days? He's the best since Ian Bell, funnily enough. Virat drives beautifully through the covers and holds the pose.

Almost the commentator's curse. Kohli inside-edges Broad soon after and it just misses his stumps before rattling to the boundary.

You'd be silly not to take an England side that has been worn down and dominated out for a few overs tonight.
