Pujara, remember, was left out of the first Test match and had a bit of a nightmare in the second when he was run out. You just sense it is all coming back, he is never going to be a beautiful player but he has made a valuable contribution to consolidate India's total. It's handy if you have one player who can stay around.

  2. Ind 132-2published at 36 overs

    Lead by 300

A nudge behind square on the leg side from Kohli takes India's lead to 300. The running between these two will be of interest in this innings, after their mix-up at Lord's which cost Pujara his wicket. It's all been serene so far.

Sometimes, the media is accused of being too harsh on England when they have a bad day. After all, they are 2-0 up in this series. The frustration, though, is that we don't seem to be learning anything about this side. They bowl teams out when the ball moves, but what about holes in the batting? Or the spinner? The biggest concern is, Anderson aside, their established players are, at best, standing still or, at worst, going backwards.

  4. Ind 131-2published at 35 overs

    Pujara 36, Kohli 12

Is anyone else still backing England?

This sort of situation is the challenge for Chris Woakes. He was excellent at Lord's and in the first innings but now there's less swing and the pitch is looking flatter. He's going to have to find another way to take wickets. Pujara looks comfortable in this over.

Anderson has already beaten the bat four or five times this morning. Not with swing but off the pitch, which is potentially more deadly because the movement comes later, you can't absolutely know what is going to happen.

    Lead by 298

Jimmy Anderson has started well here. With this ball 30-odd overs old and the clouds quite high he seems to be going for seam rather than swing. He's bowling those wobble seam deliveries and gets one to go into Kohli and hit him in the thigh and another to go away and beat the outside edge.

Jimmy stares at Kohli in bemusement at how he hasn't edge it.

This is the joint 20th biggest lead a team has had at the end of the second day. Only one team has been further ahead and gone on to lose, that was in Durban, 2002, when Australia had a lead of 307, though they were eight down. They ended up setting South Africa 340 and they chased them down.

Virat Kohli is ominously in the groove right away. Woakes strays onto the India captain's pads and is whipped to the mid-wicket boundary for four. Kohli looks completely focussed on the task in hand. He'll be aiming for a 400-run lead at least.

It'll be Chris Woakes to start with the ball from the other end to Anderson.

If England limit the lead to 400 today then they have done well.

  12. Ind 124-2published at 32 overs

    Pujara 33, Kohli 8

Pujara looked closer to his best yesterday, rather than the out of form stuff we have seen from him this season for India and Yorkshire. The right-hander looks watchful here after that early scare. He sees off the maiden. The crowd applaud Anderson's efforts.

Third day Monday = poor crowd? Not on first impression. They're queuing down the road.

Anderson starts the day by fizzing one past Pujara's edge. The Burnley Express isn't sulking. He looks up for it and, dare I say it, not too grumpy so far.

One thing for certain is India have very much brought this series back to life. That has to be a good thing for an entertainment point of view.

Jimmy Anderson is smiling as he makes his way onto the field.

For the third day in a row England will start the day with ball in hand.

The DNA of this side is to try and attack all the time. By doing that you always bring the other team into the game. England's problem is when they are up against a par total. If England could bat 80 overs, they would probably get to 280-300. You can't go out and get 25 off 20-odd balls in these conditions. Just stay in the contest. The third innings of a match is so hard if you're level in the game.

  19. Weather forecastpublished at 10:55 British Summer Time 20 August 2018

The TMS weather forecast might please England's bowlers, but worry their batsmen. It's going to be a cloudy, humid day - perfect for swing bowling. Watch those edges, lads...

England have had a shocker but credit has to go to India for their performance in this match.

They were written off by some coming to Nottingham but have put themselves in a position where it is hard to see how they can lose.

Hardik Pandya was their star man on day two. He claimed his first five-wicket haul for his country.

Wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant also took five wickets on debut, an India record.
