These are two of my favourite England batsmen. Buttler for the range of strokes. The defence Stokes has shown shows his determination to stay in there and tire the bowlers out. Stokes has looked solid. He is making a case for being higher up the order.

And Stokes of course has completed that stat provided for us earlier by Andy Zaltzman, the top five reaching double figures in all four innings for the first time in a Test match. The powerful left-hander continues to play nice and straight as the blue sky takes over Trent Bridge, pushing Ishant through mid-off for three more.

Four more to Buttler, driving Pandya gloriously through the covers for his sixth boundary. Now that's nice, a young girl has made a lovely banner urging: "Get Well soon, Jonny". The man in question is looking pale but determined, standing up in the dressing room in his sleeveless England sweater, although I can't see if he has his pads on.

A positive response from Stokes, flicking Ishant off his pads for four and then an authoritative straight drive races away for another boundary.

Pavan: Enjoying watching all the Tests from Kuala Lumpur. Amazed to see four Indian quickies bowling so well and very happy for the team who must have been down after the first two Tests.

Pandya tries Stokes with a short one and his all-rounder counterpart takes on the challenge, helping it down to fine-leg in controlled fashion for a single. Ashwin back on the field as the sun breaks through. That Moeen double century by the way was brought up by hitting a four and a six.

Arun: As an India fan being there on day four at Lord's, that was the lowest I've felt at a cricket match - there was no fight in that last innings. Eight days on we've dominated England in all aspects. Remarkable turn around. LONG LIVE TEST CRICKET.

After that fine stop a moment ago, Shami lets a firm defensive push from Stokes under his hand and then has to set off after it, slipping as he retrieved it to add insult to injury as the batsmen take three. Shami leaves the field as a consequence, joining Ashwin in the pavilion. A controlled push from Buttler at Ishant brings him a fifth boundary.

There's a group in the Smith Cooper Stand shouting no-ball every time Pandya and Ishant bowl. Either they're overstepping, or someone got to the bar too early.

Four slips for India's exciting golden earringed-all-rounder Pandya. A fine delivery nips away from Buttler at close to 87mph but no edge this time. Meanwhile, Moeen has completed his double century, so is he set to return at Southampton next week?

What would you be gaining from bringing Ian Bell back? Maybe a year?

We have had lots of swaps and changes in the team. Ian Bell was part of a team that was collapsing.

England have tried Jennings, Malan, Pope and others. Until England admit they have got a cultural problem about how they play Test cricket, I don't see how bringing in different players will change the outcome.

Excellent fielding from Shami at mid-off ensures a third successive maiden after lunch. A lady in the crowd has turned to a book, will she have time to finish it in the course of the match? I have been trying to finish Stuart Maconie's Hope and Glory for about three months now. We all have different speeds I suppose.

Until this Test England had won three on the trot. It is frustrating the life out me why England have weeks like this. You don't mind losing, everyone loses, but it is the manner.

With all of the talent in the England dressing room, they shouldn't play as badly as this.

Hardik "don't call me Kapil" Pandya, fresh from his maiden Test five-for in the first dig, takes up the attack from the Radcliffe Road End and has three slips in waiting. Umpire Gaffaney examines the area in front of the stumps where the lithe all-rounder runs into following delivery, but there is no warning yet. Stokes calmly plays out a maiden.

Peter Hague: So when are England going to bring in a sports psychologist? The inconsistency and tendency to collapse by clearly talented players is to me indicative of a poor/confused/fragile mentality. Look at the difference it made for the male footballers...

Ishant removed England's left-handed opening pair within 17 minutes this morning and he is up at 86mph already this afternoon. Some fair weather cloud in the distance over the River Trent, very little chance of a deluge to save the home team.

I'm with Arvind here, let's ensure Test cricket is strong. Well the India team look in suitably jubilant mood as Virat Kohli addresses them on the outfield in the overcast conditions. Some elaborate stretches from Jos Buttler as he strides out to the centre, how are England's traditionally big-hitting duo going to approach this? It will be Ishant to resume from the Pavilion End.
