    Cook c Rahul b Ishant 17 (Eng 28-2)

OK. Now it's time to panic. Alastair Cook is the next to go. It's a very similar delivery to the one which dismissed Jennings. Cook prods and only manages to offer a slip catch to KL Rahul at second slip.

Ishant has two wickets in two overs this morning.

Jennings, since his comeback in the second Test against Pakistan, has scored 123 runs in six innings at an average of 20.5. His overall average in 10 Tests is 23.16.

    Cook 13, Root 0

Jasprit Bumrah is the man Kohli turns too to bowl the second over of the day. He starts with a brilliant delivery. Somehow Cook survives one that goes past his bat and just climbs over the top of off stump. Cook had to play that one. If it had have bounced lower by a matter of inches it would have hit the stumps.

With the Jennings wicket though the ball would have past comfortably over. He could have seen that and just let the ball go by.

Ishant has been a terrific asset for India throughout because he has got that ball to move. He certainly doesn't have one that comes back in to the left-hander but he is very tall and very accurate.

  7. Eng 27-1published at 10 overs

Jennings swished his bat in frustration after that dismissal. He wasn't happy with his efforts. It's the dream start for India. They only need nine more.

Joe Root is out at the crease early.

It was always going to come down to Cook and Root anyway, wasn't it?

It was exactly what Ishant was looking for. He didn't know whether to play or not, it was slightly away from his body and a simple catch for the keeper.

    Jennings c Pant b Ishant 13 (Eng 27-1)

Ah. Five balls in and England have lost their first wicket. It's a good delivery from Ishant Sharma, moving away from left-hander Jennings from round the wicket. Could the batsman have left it on length? He gets a thin edge through to wicketkeeper Pant and is on his way.

The last we see of Jennings for a while?

    Target 521

Well that start from Ishant could knock any optimism out of a few. The ball whistles past the edge of Keaton Jennings who is tentatively prodding forward.

The Indians are awake and loud right away.

  12. Eng 23-0published at 9 overs

Ishant Sharma will start us off. It's dark. It's muggy. The ball is just nine overs old.

If we get no interruptions from the weather I would say England have as good a chance of winning this game as drawing it. I'm with you that there doesn't seem much point in Bairstow batting today. If he does have to bat today, the game is up.

Here is the history England are up against.

The record fourth innings run-chase in Test match history is the West Indies 418-7 against Australia in 2003.

The record at Trent Bridge is England's 284-6 against New Zealand in 2004.

Records are there to be broken...

There are a few empty seats around Trent Bridge. Maybe the Nottingham locals don't have as much optimism as Ben.

Here come Keaton Jennings and Alastair Cook.

BBC Weather's Simon King: "There is a lot of cloud cover. It is warm - currently about 20C - but the cloud should break up and I'm hopeful there will be some sunny spells this afternoon. If England manage to hold on until tomorrow, it'll be another close, humid morning but then it is set fair. There will be no rain to halt things."
