India might have relaxed but you have to give credit to Curran and Moeen for the way they batted. There was no tentativeness in their batting at all. In the last half an hour or so the sun has come out.

  2. Eng 228-8published at 72 overs

    Curran 63, Broad 15

Sam Curran gets right across his stumps and steers Hardik Pandya out to square leg for a single to keep the strike.

    Intelligent batting from the 20-year-old.

  3. 'India have missed a trick'published at 17:37 British Summer Time 30 August 2018

    Michael Vaughan
Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special

I reckon Virat Kohli will start to think India have missed a trick. At 86-6 they were dominating but England, slowly but surely, are starting to get back into this game.

  4. Eng 227-8published at 71.4 overs

Runs! Sam Curran taps away for one before Stuart Broad picks up two before slicing out nicely towards third man for three.

That's the 50 partnership too. Vital runs for England.

Bad light had stopped play for a while but the match is back under way. The scorecard is here.

And as if just to wind up India a bit further, Stuart Broad edges the last ball between keeper and slip to pick up four.

  7. Not outpublished at 70.1 overs

Ball tracking shows that hit Stuart Broad outside the line so not out.

It looks like a tiny feather on the front pad before it hit the back pad. Had it hit the back first, Broad might well have been in trouble.

    On we go.

Broad doesn't look to have hit it. India don't look confident though.

I feel like it hit him outside the line.

Ravichandran Ashwin goes round the wicket and gets one through onto Stuart Broad's pads.

    Appeal but not given.

Rishabh Pant convinces Virat Kohli to review it.

Iain McCafferty: England's number seven has more runs than the combined score of their top four specialist batsman and their number eight (Sam Curran) is their only player to score more than 50. Not England's finest day, but considering where they were at lunch... well done, Sam!

Andy Gill: To think that Sam Curran was left out at Trent Bridge. Madness. Disgraceful.

Wahey! Hardik Pandya offers a bit of width outside off and Stuart Broad throws his arms at it.

He doesn't middle it but clatters it far enough to pick up three.

Sam Curran pulls in front of square and picks up two from the last.

I think England are just creeping back into this contest.

  14. Eng 212-8published at 69.4 overs

Hardik Pandya is into the attack and almost has Stuart Broad nicking off.

He then tries the inswinger but gets the line wrong and it deflects off Broad's pad, past the stricken Rishabh Pant and away for four more.

Broad then chips it up in the air over mid-wicket and the ball lands safe, allowing him to scamper two.

We'll know around lunchtime tomorrow if whatever England can make can be competitive. I don't think it's a 350 wicket, 250-280 is probably about par so they are not out of it. At 89-6 they were. Moeen Ali will be disappointed with the way he got out but Sam Curran looks a really good batsman.

How well he has played - that is a quality innings. We were talking about having four number sixes - there are five. He should be up there.

On TV, former England batsman Rob Key is trying to scale the climbing wall.

It's entertaining but not as much as Sam Curran's innings.

The 20-year-old all-rounder brings up a fine fifty with a terrific sweep over mid-wicket for six off Ravichandran Ashwin!

That's the 200 up for England too.

The curious thing about the hotel being so central to proceedings here is that life inside it rolls on pretty much in the same way that it would if the cricket wasn't happening. Outside the media area, a harassed mother has just shepherded her crying daughter into one of the rooms. The daughter may or may not have just seen a replay of Keaton Jennings' dismissal....
