  • SA 228 all out (49.5 overs, won toss)

  • Third & final ODI, Canterbury (Eng win series 2-1)

  1. SA 84-2published at 25 overs

    Wolvaardt 45, Van Niekerk 14

Knight rotates her field for the two right-handers - it's a tighter over from the skipper. That figure of 250 which was mentioned before play is looking a long way off unless the tourists can start hitting boundaries.

  2. SA 80-1published at 24 overs

    Ecclestone 4-0-10-1

Ecclestone, who looks to have supplanted World Cup winner Alex Hartley in the ODI side for the time being, is doing well to put the squeeze on South Africa - just two singles added to the score.

There's a lot of pressure on Van Niekerk to get the scoring rate going.

  5. SA 78-2published at 23 overs

Time for the captain to bowl - Heather Knight has only bowled eight ODI overs since the World Cup ("when she was bowling seven or eight overs per match", Isabelle Westbury notes on TMS), but she replaces fellow off-spinner Marsh at the Nackington Road End. A fairly tidy over as SA pick up some ones and twos.

Wolvaardt is such a good player - she just needs to put deliveries like that away.

  8. SA 72-2published at 22 overs

    Wolvaardt 38 (64 balls), Van Niekerk 9 (17)

Van Niekerk sweeps Ecclestone for one of those rare twos, the teenager is quickly through her over and the Proteas can only eke out a couple more singles.

And Isabelle Westbury on TMS has spotted skipper Heather Knight - who's not yet bowled in this series - warming up at extra cover.

There's been four fours, and three twos in this innings. Everything else has been dots and singles.

  10. SA 68-2published at 21 overs

    Marsh 6-0-28-0

Laura Marsh spins down her sixth over, she's done well to hold an end here - even if the wicket ultimately fell to Ecclestone at the other end. Four gentle singles from the over.

Danni Wyatt fielded fantastically in that last ODI. She's very athletic. Do not let her size deceive you - she has a rocket of an arm.

  12. SA 64-2published at 20 overs

A single from Wolvaarft, but Ecclestone keeps Van Niekerk tied down very well for the rest of the over - though she owes a vote of thanks to Danni Wyatt's fielding in that respect.

  13. SA 63-2published at 19 overs

Dane van Niekerk shows her class with a powerful four through the covers. SA need to up the run rate, and the skipper is showing her intentions from the off.

Meanwhile, as scorer Phil Long reels off New Zealand star Amelia Kerr's records from that ODI in Dublin, the TMS team let out a joint groan when they hear she was only born in October 2000, and ponder how many more records she will break in her career. "What were you doing in the year 2000?" is the question asked. Isn't that when we were all supposed to meet up at two o'clock, at the fountain down the road?

  14. SA 58-2published at 18 overs

Ecclestone had a mixed afternoon at Hove- flogged for 30 from her first three overs, but came back to take 3-24 from her second spell of seven overs. This time, she's struck early.

Captain Dane van Niekerk in at number four - she's playing her 95th ODI today, and she's only just turned 25.

    Steyn lbw b Ecclestone 19 (SA 58-2)

Left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone into the action, and making the breakthrough with her fourth delivery as Andrie Steyn - who's lived a little dangerously, as we mentioned - tries to hit across the line again, and is trapped in front.

  16. SA 55-1published at 17 overs

    Wolvaardt 31 (53 balls), Steyn 18 (38)

Steyn seems to favour hitting through the on side, but can only pick out the long-on fielder for a single. Four singles in total from Marsh's fourth over.

  17. View from the press boxpublished at 15:01 British Summer Time 15 June 2018

Raf Nicholson: Steyn is the player with 9 lives it seems - dropped on 4*, should have been gone lbw last over and now survives a run out 3rd umpire appeal.

  18. SA 51-1published at 16 overs

    Sciver 4-0-18-0

Sciver into her fourth over - Wolvaardt keeps the scoreboard ticking with a two to the hard-working Tammy Beaumont at fine leg, as the Proteas take singles and twos where they can, but the scoreboard has never progressed from "ticking" to "racing" today. Rather like a dressage horse struggling to make the transition from "trot" to "canter".

Ten years ago, 45 would have been a good score after 15 overs but the women's game has moved on since then. It's been difficult for South Africa because they've got two young players at the crease.

Nat Sciver has bowled well, stump-to-stump like Anya.

  20. SA 45-1published at 15 overs

Under pressure to keep the rate up, South Africa try a risky quick single and just make it there in time. Steyn guides the ball towards the square leg boundary but is stopped by a great sliding-knee-pick-up-and-throw by Katherine Brunt, which is warmly applauded by the crowd behind her.
