If England can keep Dane van Niekerk off strike as much as possible now, opportunities will arise.

  2. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 45 overs

    Tryon c Jones b Brunt 19 (SA 197-4)

Some minor redemption for Amy Jones after those drops, as Tryon goes for the long-on fence and this time Jones takes a clean catch.

  3. SA 195-3published at 44.2 overs

Elwiss has left the building (well, the bowling attack), and Katherine Brunt back into the attack - but with Taylor up to the stumps, Tryon improvises and tickles one past the keeper for four.

Shrubsole's first four overs went for three runs. Her last four have gone for 35.

  5. SA 191-3published at 44 overs

    Van Niekerk 87 (102 balls), Tryon 14 (11)

Van Niekerk dabs Shrubsole for her third four of the over. At this rate, if England keep shelling catches, 250 may be back on...

  6. WATCH: Wolvaardt dismissed for 64published at 16:34 British Summer Time 15 June 2018

Here's how to take a catch - Shrubsole pouches Wolvaardt for 64.

  7. dropped catch

Van Niekerk dropped on 75published at 43.2 overs

    SA 187-3

Oh dear, Amy Jones - Dane van Niekerk launches Shrubsole to long-on, but Jones has come in too far, she gets a finger to it but it bounces over her head for four. Another four to the same region means it's DVN's highest ODI score.

  8. SA 179-3published at 43 overs

    Van Niekerk 75, Tryon 14

Suddenly it feels as though you don't have enough boundary fielders when Tryon gets going... an expensive over for Elwiss, 15 from it, and England may go back to Shrubsole and Brunt.

  9. 6 runs

    SA 177-3published at 42.3 overs

    Tryon 13 (9 balls)

Tryon slog-sweeps Elwiss over square leg, and is brilliantly caught two-handed... by a cap-wearing chap in the crowd reaching to his right. The next ball sails even further back over mid-wicket and into the seats! Six more!

I'd still have liked to have seen Ecclestone come on before Laura Marsh against the two youngsters. You always think something's going to happen when she bowls.

  11. SA 164-3published at 42 overs

    Ecclestone 10-1-26-1

Ecclestone to complete her spell, Van Niekerk moves to 73 with a single - the pitch map shows she's scored off nearly every ball that's landed outside her off stump today. Heather Knight at extra cover denies Tryon a likely single, Ecclestone's last ball hits Tryon on the pad and she can take her cap after a marvellously economic spell - three or four fielders come over and congratulate her.

Two things for the sides to work on here - England's catching, and South Africa's running between the wickets.

  13. SA 163-3published at 41 overs

Chloe Tryon is up and running - literally - as her first ball is pushed for a single, and her second nearly provokes a run-out as she sets off for a single and is sent back.

It means fresh legs for South Africa - as we expected, Chloe Tryon is coming in. Her game has changed beautifully - she's still got the power game, but she has a lot of "cricket smarts" too, and works with the tail well.

  15. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 40.3 overs

    Wolvaardt c Shrubsole b Elwiss 64 (SA 161-3)

Elwiss returns - and makes the breakthrough as England finally hold onto a catch, a straightforward grab at mid-off as Wolvaardt, who took 100 balls to score 64 (I'll leave you to work out her strike rate), tries to go over the top.

  16. SA 156-2published at 40 overs

    Wolvaardt 64 (99 balls), Van Niekerk 66 (90)

With drinks concluded, Sophie Ecclestone to bowl her ninth over, she gets a bit of drift and Wolvaardt struggles to hit against the spin as she's tied down for three dot balls before managing a single. Happily for the Proteas, Van Niekerk nicks the strike with a single off the last ball.

It's been suggested that Wolvaardt could bat through the innings here and still fall short of a century... they'd have to go at 10 an over to make the 250 score which was suggested as par before play.

I'm tipping a change in the batting order. If a wicket falls, they've got to send in Chloe Tryon, who's one of the biggest hitters in women's cricket at the moment.

All those three dropped catches went to two hands. You've got to get your hands around at least two of them. If those catches had gone down, it could be 80-5.

  20. drinks break

    Drinks breakpublished at 39 overs

    SA 153-2

Van Niekerk crouches a little to uppercut Brunt through third man for four, before a baseball-style blast past the bowler and a single allow her to overtake her batting partner for the first time.

Van Niekerk now has 64, Wolvaardt on 63.
