  1. Eng 69-0published at 6 overs

Make that seven fours from eight, this time through mid-on. The sequence is ended as Beaumont mistimes one through the leg side, and she whacks her bat in frustration as she can only take a single.

Remarkably, England are 13 ahead of where record-breaking New Zealand were at the same stage this afternoon. A crumb of comfort for South Africa is that they can now put some fielders back.

I can't believe Van Niekerk is still in at gully.

    Eng 64-0

Ismail gets a third over, Wyatt launches one over mid-on, Klaas gives chase but never looked like reaching it in time and they run two. And when Ismail strays onto middle and leg, Beaumont effortlessly flicks it away for four backward of square leg. Another four through extra cover means Beaumont has hit six fours from her last seven deliveries.

Masabata Klaas replaces Kapp - but with mid-off and mid-on up, Tammy Beaumont whacks two full deliveries down the ground for four. Third man and fine leg are brought up, so Beaumont sweeps a third four through square leg and powerfully whacks a fourth through mid-wicket to bring up the 50 partnership. Having lagged behind Wyatt initially, she now has 25 from 27 balls after those four successive boundaries.

Poor bowling from South Africa. Van Niekerk is at gully and the fine leg is literally on her shoulder, leaving such a big gap at third man.

  8. Eng 37-0published at 4 overs

    Wyatt 28, Beaumont 9

Wyatt tips-and-runs another quick single, the mid-on fielder has one stump to aim at but can't hit it from reasonably close range which might have left Wyatt in trouble. Wyatt continues to move up through the gears, helping herself to four more through third man before lofting a four over mid-on.

I'd like to see South Africa experiment with a spinner in the first six. Dane van Niekerk has done it so well for the Sydney Sixers in recent years, so I'm surprised she's not bowled more. I can only think that she doesn't have faith in her other bowlers.

    Wyatt 19 (8 balls), Beaumont 8 (10)

A deft dab brings Wyatt another single.

Wyatt's not tall, so has to rely on her timing.

Wyatt swipes Kapp for four over the (non-existent) slips (if you get my drift), before taking a step or two forward to cover-drive a sumptuous four. Having only just brought in a slip, the fielder is removed to reinforce the ring of off-side fielders - but Danni Wyatt in this form can thread a cover drive through the eye of a needle. That's her third four of the over.

    Wyatt 6, Beaumont 8

With no slip in, Shabnim Ismail is frustrated as Beaumont nicks one through where a wide slip would be standing, and it's away for four. Mignon du Preez is in the wars, taking a blow to the knee as she stops one at backward point. Then it's Wyatt's turn to be hit by Kapp's throw from the outfield after a scampered two.

I'm not a fashion guru, but I think the bright orange clashes with the red on the back of the shirt. South Africa at least have consistent kit design.

  15. Eng 8-0published at 1 over

Wyatt guides Kapp's first ball for a single off her legs, Beaumont dinks one into the covers, and when Kapp offers a little width, Wyatt square-drives just past cover point and that's away for four.

South Africa's fielding wasn't the best against New Zealand, and it's already looked a little scratchy in this first over - Klaas not picking up cleanly as England rack up the singles.

As we thought, it's Danni Wyatt opening with Tammy Beaumont, with Marizanne Kapp opening the bowling from the River End.

I was going to kick up a fuss if Danielle Hazell was left out again, she was actually ranked the number one bowler in the world in T20 internationals a couple of years ago and she's really hard to get away. England can use her opening up, or at the death.

Jenny Gunn's a good addition - you always think you can take her on, but we saw in the first match how those nagging bowlers like Hayley Jensen and Sophie Devine were difficult to get away, and Gunn's annoying to face like that.

England captain Heather Knight: "We're going to have a bat, we've seen the first game, it looks a good wicket and we want to have first use of it. It's about getting our side right."

South Africa skipper Dane van Niekerk: "We'd have batted, just to swap it around a little. We've talked about the stuff we can change, the lengths we didn't hit and hopefully we can implement them."
