  1. Intervalpublished at 16:11 British Summer Time 9 June 2018

    Lancashire 158-5 (64 overs) v Essex

Lancashire's sixth-wicket partners reach the second interval of the day unparted after a key 99-run stand.

Jordan Clark has been the main contributor with an excellent 62, but Shiv Chanderpaul is once again playing an anchor role, with a typically dogged 42 from 154 balls.

  2. Burns on the brinkpublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 9 June 2018

    Surrey 180-3 (47 overs) v Hampshire

Surrey skipper Rory Burns hits a boundary off Gareth Berg, and a single from the next ball takes him to 99. Will he reach three figures before his partnership with Ben Foakes does? Perhaps not as Ben Foakes pinches the strike with a single from the final delivery of the over - their stand is worth 97.

  3. Division Two round-uppublished at 16:07 British Summer Time 9 June 2018

Kent are still making solid progress at Nevil Road, Bristol.

They went to tea on 187-1 against Gloucestershire, of which South African Sean Dickson has so far made 97. Heino Kuhn has still there with him on 33, having so far put on 64.

Glamorgan have already lost a wicket since tea against leaders Warwickshire at Edgbaston, legspinner Josh Poysden taking his second scalp, That's Owen Morgan, LBW for 36 after a stand of 46 with David Lloyd, who is still there on 33 out of his side's 173-6.

Derbyshire are already well on course to overhauling the all-out Durham total of 96. They are already on 72-2, of which Ben Slater made 32 and Wayne Madsen has so far reached 30.

Saif Zaib was unbeaten at tea on 31 out of 195-7 for Northamptonshire against Leicestershire.

  4. Glamorgan show some gritpublished at 15:58 British Summer Time 9 June 2018

    Glamorgan 171-5 v Warwickshire - tea

    Clive Eakin
    BBC Coventry & Warwickshire Sport

Warwickshire have probably had the edge so far on the first day at Edgbaston, but Glamorgan have been making a fight of it since losing a flurry of wickets before lunch.

On a slow pitch with a bit of variable bounce and turn, Glamorgan, having chosen to bat first, looked in trouble at 69-4.

Chris Cooke, captaining the Welsh side for the first time, batted positively before falling to leg-spinner Josh Poysden's first delivery of the season.

But after looking nervous early on Owen Morgan has continued the recovery and by tea had shared in an unbroken stand of 45 with David Lloyd.

  5. 'Hard slog' for Gloucestershirepublished at 15:54 British Summer Time 9 June 2018

    Kent 187-1 v Gloucestershire - tea

Kent’s progress in the second session of the day on a sleepy surface, was only temporarily hampered by the dismissal of Daniel Bell-Drummond for 49, guiding an outswinger from Craig Miles low to Chris Dent at second slip.

Gloucestershire came out after lunch full of purpose and Miles profited from his endeavour, but quite how the excellent Ryan Higgins hasn’t got a wicket will have him scratching his head long after this game is done.

For the visitors, Sean Dickson has survived a couple of scares but is just three short of a patient first ton of the season – and Heino Kuhn has done his best to accelerate the run-rate and is unbeaten on 33.

A hard slog this for the home bowlers on a humid day on an unrewarding pitch, and Chris Dent has used seven so far.

  6. Surrey pair build standpublished at 15:52 British Summer Time 9 June 2018

    Surrey 160-3 (42 overs) v Hampshire

No wickets since the post-rain resumption for Hampshire and Ben Foakes picks up four runs off Dale Steyn to reach 34 not out, with Rory Burns on 87. They have so far added 77 for the fourth wicket.

  7. Harmer puts brakes onpublished at 15:48 British Summer Time 9 June 2018

    Lancashire 150-5 (58.3 overs) v Essex

The introduction of spinner Simon Harmer into the attack has slowed the run rate at a time when Shiv Chanderpaul and Jordan Clark were really starting to get into their stride, having taken 13 off one Jamie Porter over.

The man who took 72 Championship wickets last season went for just six off his first five overs, before Chanderpaul (42) finally struck the first boundary off him, thanks to a misfield. Clark looking well set on 56.

Turning to Harmer should also speed the Essex over rate up.

Already late for tea - and still five overs to go!

  8. Somerset collect first pointpublished at 15:46 British Summer Time 9 June 2018

    Somerset 211-4 v Nottinghamshire - tea

A satisfactory afternoon session for Somerset, which would have been even better but for Matt Renshaw's dismissal for 106. He was guilty of an error of judgement shortly after reaching three figures, but Tom Abell (38 not out) and Steven Davies (15) have put on 35 to secure a first batting point for the home side. Off-spinner Matt Carter has been the pick of Nottinghamshire's bowlers, with 3-59 so far.

Abell lifts tempopublished at 15:30 British Summer Time 9 June 2018

    Somerset 193-4 (63 overs) v Nottinghamshire

Somerset have almost reached their first batting point, with Tom Abell now in the senior role following Matt Renshaw's dismissal for 106. Abell has hooked a short ball from Matt Milnes for six and is 32 not out, with Steven Davies on five after slog-sweeping Matt Carter for his first boundary.

  10. 50 runs

50 for Jordan Clarkpublished at 15:29 British Summer Time 9 June 2018

    Lancashire 140-5 (53 overs) v Essex

Jordan Clark reaches his fourth first-class half century of the season with his eighth boundary of the innings.

The Cumbrian all-rounder has so far put on 81 with Shiv Chanderpaul.

Just 60 more for a batting point. And that seemed highly unlikely when Lancs were 59-5 two balls after lunch.

Well bowled Zak Chappell, who claims a maiden five-for by bowling Rory Kleinveldt behind his legs, knocking out leg stump. The 21-year-old now has 5-35 with Leicestershire on top at Wantage Road.

  12. Surrey pair post fifty standpublished at 15:21 British Summer Time 9 June 2018

    Surrey 134-3 (35 overs) v Hampshire

Hampshire paceman Fidel Edwards sends one down that starts wide of off stump and swings away wider, but Ben Foakes is still able to reach it and guide it away through the covers for four.

Kyle Abbott has the ball for the next over which ends with Rory Burns finding the boundary to move to 74 not out, with Foakes on 25, and together they have a half-century partnership.

  13. 'Tough going' for Glamorganpublished at 15:07 British Summer Time 9 June 2018

    Glamorgan 137-5 (54 overs) v Warwickshire

    Nick Webb
    BBC Wales Sport

Warwickshire’s bowlers remain on top at Edgbaston despite a half-century stand between Glamorgan’s acting captain Chris Cooke and Owen Morgan.

Spinner Josh Poysden won an lbw decision against Cooke on 34 with his first ball of the match to end the partnership.

Australia batsman Usman Khawaja fell just after lunch, pinned lbw by Keith Barker for 4 in 47 minutes on his Glamorgan debut.

It’s been tough going for the visitors against the Division Two leaders since a brief flurry of early runs for openers Nick Selman and Jack Murphy, with all the bowlers claiming a wicket so far.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Jordan Clark have now put on a chanceless 54 for the sixth wicket to help Lancashire recover from 59-5 at Old Trafford against county champions Essex.

WICKET Renshaw b Carter 106published at 15:02 British Summer Time 9 June 2018

    Somerset 176-4 (55 overs) v Nottinghamshire

It's harsh to be critical of a batsman who has just scored a century, but Matt Renshaw has given his wicket away there. After flicking Matt Carter away to long-leg for four, he comes down the wicket later in the over to attempt a big drive, lifts his head, misses the ball and is bowled. An unnecessary dismissal, but Carter won't be complaining - he now has three wickets for Notts.

  16. Surrey back in businesspublished at 15:02 British Summer Time 9 June 2018

    Surrey 113-3 (31 overs) v Hampshire

Play is now under way again at the Ageas Bowl following a rain delay and Surrey have added eight runs to their lunch total. Rory Burns helps himself to a boundary off Dale Steyn as he moves on to 63 not out, with Ben Foakes on 14.

  17. 100 runs

for Matt Renshawpublished at 14:56 British Summer Time 9 June 2018

    Somerset 172-3 (53.4 overs) v Nottinghamshire

It's a streaky way to do it, but there's Matt Renshaw's third County Championship century for Somerset as Steven Mullaney finds the edge and the ball runs away through the slip cordon for three.

Renshaw's hundred came up off 165 balls, and featured two sixes and 11 fours - and all three for Somerset have been scored at Taunton.

Remember, Cameron Bancroft should have been Somerset's overseas batsman this summer, but his ball-tampering ban created a vacancy that his Australia team-mate was happy to fill.

  18. Division Two round-uppublished at 14:52 British Summer Time 9 June 2018

Kent openers Daniel Bell-Drummond and Sean Dickson have finally been parted after putting on 124 for the first wicket at Bristol.

Craig Miles made the breakthrough for Gloucestershire, removing Bell-Drummond for 49. Dickson remains on 74.

By way of contrast, in the other three Div Two games, wickets have fallen regularly.

As well as Durham being bowled out by Derbyshire for 96, Northants are struggling on 128-6 against Leicestershire.

South African Ricardo Vasconcelos is top scorer so far, also going one short of his half century for 49.

Glamorgan are also faltering on 127-5 against Warwickshire at Edgbaston where every member of the Bears' five-man attack has taken a wicket for the leaders.

  19. All out at Chester-le-Streetpublished at 14:50 British Summer Time 9 June 2018

Durham 96 all out (v Derbyshire)

Not a good day so for an injury-hit Durham side who have also been further weakened by international calls.

They have two players making their debut - wicketkeeper Ryan Davies and Hampshire second team fast bowler Matt Salisbury, who has joined on loan.

Also, batsman Michael Jones, who has played five ODIs with Scotland, and Josh Coughlin are both making their County Championship debut.

Coughlin, younger brother of Paul, who left Durham for Notts at the end of last season, and Jones both made double figures.

But they have been bowled out for 96, Derbyshire's two South Africans Hardus Viljeon and Duanne Olivier taking eight of the wickets between them.

  20. Hants hopeful of restartpublished at 14:40 British Summer Time 9 June 2018

    Surrey 105-3 (27 overs) v Hampshire

There has been no play since lunch at the Ageas Bowl as the sign in the pic helpfully confirms. But it looks like we might be getting some more cricket in the not too distant future. Can anyone think of appropriate rhymes for 'downpour' or 'drizzle?
