    Lancashire 91-5 (34.3 overs) v Essex

Jordan Clark is already on to 21, of which four have been boundaries.

The third of those was slightly fortuitous though, through third man, right where third slip would have been.

And Chanderpaul has now followed suit, smiting two fours of his own to reach 19.

  17. Kent 'untroubled on placid pitch'published at 13:27 British Summer Time 9 June 2018

    Kent 83-0 v Gloucestershire - lunch

    Matt Cole
    Sports Editor, BBC Radio Kent

From the moment Kent captain Joe Denly won the toss and elected to bat, the visitors have looked mainly untroubled on a worn-looking but placid pitch at Bristol.

After a cagey start that saw Sean Dickson twice cut close to his stumps, the opening pair have made stately progress towards lunch, accelerating up to around four runs an over off the final 10 before the interval.

Sean Dickson (47 not out) has been the more aggressive of the batsmen, but Daniel Bell-Drummond has played the crisper shots – a drive through mid-wicket for four just before lunch being the pick of the day so far.

Ryan Higgins has been the best of the Gloucestershire bowlers – conceding just five off his seven overs of medium pace, and constantly nagging at the batsmen with his accuracy and swing.

  18. Durham in deep troublepublished at 13:23 British Summer Time 9 June 2018

    Durham 66-6 v Derbyshire - lunch

A dismal morning at the Riverside for a weakened Durham side ended with a wicket as Graham Clark was caught behind off Tony Palladino for 19. South Africans Duanne Olivier and Hardus Viljoen claimed two wickets each as Durham slumped to 26-4 before Clark and Gareth Harte (20) staged a partial recovery with a stand of 38. Both are now gone, though, and Derbyshire will be hoping to make short work of the tail when play resumes.

    Zak ChappellImage source, PA

Zak Chappell was the stand-out performer with the ball for Leicestershire on the opening morning at Wantage Road. He bowled Rob Newton for 31 and later added the wicket of Northants skipper Alex Wakely for figures of 2-19 from six overs. Ben Raine claimed the other wicket to fall, Ben Duckett caught behind for 14. But Ricardo Vasconcelos batted for almost an hour and a half to reach lunch on 24 not out.

  20. Burns stands firm for Surreypublished at 13:15 British Summer Time 9 June 2018

    Surrey 105-3 v Hampshire - lunch

Surrey could hardly have made a worse start at the Ageas Bowl, where Mark Stoneman and Scott Borthwick both departed for ducks in the first over of play. Captain Rory Burns led the fightback as he and Ryan Patel (34) shared a stand of 82 - and Burns was still there on 56 at the interval.

Fidel Edwards and Brad Taylor are the Hampshire wicket-takers - the latter also running out Borthwick with a direct hit - while Dale Steyn's first bowl for the county in Championship cricket brought him 0-15 from eight overs.
