  1. Glamorgan look to Khawajapublished at 13:11 British Summer Time 9 June 2018

    Glamorgan 65-3 v Warwickshire - lunch

    BBC Wales Sport

Warwickshire’s bowlers have fought back well against Glamorgan after the Welsh county made a positive start, reaching 44 without loss.

Much now depends on Australia Test batsman Usman Khawaja to hold things together on his Glamorgan debut, having reached a cautious four not out in 35 minutes.

After stand-in captain Chris Cooke chose to bat, Jack Murphy fell for 18, Connor Brown for nine and Nick Selman for 30

There’s been a wicket each for Henry Brookes, Chris Wright and Jeetan Patel with the Kiwi spinner getting early turn from a wicket that’s also produced the odd low bounce.

  2. Solid start by Somersetpublished at 13:09 British Summer Time 9 June 2018

    Somerset 80-1 v Nottinghamshire - lunch

Only one wicket during the morning session for Division One leaders Nottinghamshire, who are fielding an attack minus Stuart Broad, Jake Ball and Harry Gurney. Matt Milnes has bowled tidily on his first Championship appearance, but the only breakthrough was achieved by skipper Steven Mullaney, who had Eddie Byrom lbw. Matt Renshaw is 52 not out for Somerset, with George Bartlett on nine after opening his account with two fours in three balls.

  4. Intervalpublished at 13:03 British Summer Time 9 June 2018

    Lancashire 59-4 (28 overs) v Essex

    Lunchtime in Manchester.

An undeniably good morning for Essex.

But, following the loss of those first four wickets, hiv Chanderpaul (8) and Dane Vilas (10) have so far defied the bowler-friendly conditions

A lot more hard work need this afternoon, however, by the two Red Rose overseas players.

for Rory Burnspublished at 12:54 British Summer Time 9 June 2018

    Surrey 90-3 (25 overs) v Hampshire

Dale Steyn is back for a pre-lunch burst for Hampshire, but Rory Burns collects a couple of runs to bring up a 68-ball fifty. By doing so, the left-hander also reaches 400 Championship runs for the summer, but Surrey need a lot more from him if they are to post a par or better first-innings total at the Ageas Bowl.

  6. Division Two round-uppublished at 12:45 British Summer Time 9 June 2018

That bright start for Glamorgan has faltered at Edgbaston.

From 44-0 against Warwickshire, they have slumped to 59-3.

Jack Murphy's departure has been rapidly followed by the loss of Connor Brown and opener Nick Selman, caught off skipper Jeetan Patel for 30.

Northants are also three wickets down at home to Leicestershire. After Ben Raine's breakthrough, Zak Chappell has now struck twice to reduce the hosts to 75-3.

Kent openers Daniel Bell-Drummond (26) and Sean Dickson (40) remain unparted on 6-9 after 29 overs against Gloucestershire.

And Durham appear to have stopped the rot against Derbyshire at Chester-le-Street.

From 26-4, the hosts have rallied, fifth-wicket partners Graham Clark (17) and Gareth Harte (20) having so far more than doubled their score to 62-4.

  7. 50 runs

for Matt Renshawpublished at 12:45 British Summer Time 9 June 2018

    Somerset 77-1 (25 overs) v Nottinghamshire

    Matt RenshawImage source, Rex Features

Matt Renshaw lofts the first six of the game off Matt Carter and a single later in the over carries the Australian to a 77-ball half-century. It's the third time he has passed fifty this summer and he will hope to convert it into a hundred, as he did on the two previous occasions.

  8. wicket

WICKET Patel lbw Taylor 34published at 12:42 British Summer Time 9 June 2018

    Surrey 83-3 (22.4 overs) v Hampshire

Did that keep a little low? Ryan Patel tries to play a forcing shot off the back foot against Brad Taylor's off-spin but makes no contact and the umpire raises the finger. Patel's dismissal ends a stand of 82 with Rory Burns, who has now been joined by Ben Foakes.

  9. wicket

WICKET Byrom lbw Mullaney 14published at 12:38 British Summer Time 9 June 2018

    Somerset 62-1 (23.1 overs) v Nottinghamshire

Well, the final words of the previous entry certainly put the mockers on Somerset opener Eddie Byrom, who plays down the wrong line to the first ball of the next over which is angled into his pads from round the wicket by Steven Mullaney. Byrom goes for 14 and George Bartlett is the new batsman.

  10. Somerset openers still togetherpublished at 12:37 British Summer Time 9 June 2018

    Somerset 56-0 (22 overs) v Nottinghamshire

    Matt RenshawImage source, Rex Features

Matt Renshaw and Eddie Byrom post a half-century opening stand for Somerset against leaders Notts as the former nudges a ball from Steven Mullaney down to third man for four.

Two more boundaries follow in the same over, the first a fortunate inside edge past the keeper and the second a thin tickle to a delivery pitched outside leg-stump.

Renshaw has 42 to his name, but spare a thought for partner Byrom, who has managed 13 from 62 balls faced so far. Suffice to say, it's a bit of a struggle, but Somerset won't care as long as he is still there.

  11. Big shout at Old Traffordpublished at 12:36 British Summer Time 9 June 2018

    Lancashire 43-4 (21 overs) v Essex

Shiv Chanderpaul survives a big LBW shout from Sam Cook.

25 minutes to go to lunch. Batting conditions are palpably tough in this humid Manchester morning session. But it's rather important that Lancashire do not lose another wicket this side of the interval.

Chanderpaul has now been joined by Lancashire's other overseas player, South African Kolpak signing Dane Vilas.

  12. Patel makes positive impressionpublished at 12:31 British Summer Time 9 June 2018

    Surrey 70-2 (20 overs) v Hampshire

After losing two wickets in the first over of the game, Surrey are now going along nicely at the Ageas Bowl, with Rory Burns and Ryan Patel having so far put on 69 for the third wicket.

Hampshire have been yielding too many boundaries of late for skipper James Vince's liking, the latest effortlessly put away through the covers by Patel, who moves level with Burns on 33 not out.

  13. wicket

WICKET Livingstone c Harmer b Cook 11published at 12:25 British Summer Time 9 June 2018

    Lancashire 40-4 (18.4 overs) v Essex

It's humid, overcast, swinging and hard work for the hosts.

Now captain Liam Livingstone is gone too, also caught in the gully off Sam Cook, just a ball after trying to take the fight back to Essex a bit by despatching his second boundary.

We asked for your thoughts on the England Lions squad, named this morning, to face India A and West Indies A. Looks like Jamie Porter's exclusion hasn't gone down too well with some Essex supporters.

From Alistair Hargreaves: "#bbccricket, external@EssexCricket, external re Lions Squad, no places for Lawrence or Porter? Porter isn't the fastest but he asks questions and is accurate, like Glenn McGrath"

From Luke Keeble: "Outrage that @jamieporter93, external has missed out on the England Lions squad. Leading wicket taker last year and going well this season too. #bbccricket, external"

    Hardus ViljoenImage source, Rex Features

Three wickets in three overs have put Derbyshire on top at the Riverside, with Durham reduced to 26-4. Two wickets each for Duanne Olivier and Hardus Viljoen, the latter bowling Will Smith, who was the last man to go, for 2.

Glamorgan have lost their first wicket against leaders Warwickshire, with Jack Murphy lbw to the promising Henry Brookes for 18, but they have moved on to 53-1 after 19 overs, with Nick Selman 24 not out.

Northants are 63-2 in the 18th over against Leicestershire, with Rob Newton bowled by Zak Chappell for 31, bringing skipper Alex Wakely to the crease.

At Bristol, Kent's opening pair are still together, but they are finding runs hard to come by against Gloucestershire, with the score 36-0 in the 20th over.

  16. Steyn tidy but wicketlesspublished at 12:14 British Summer Time 9 June 2018

    Surrey 41-2 (16 overs) v Hampshire

South African Dale Steyn has finished his first spell for Hampshire in Championship cricket with 0-8 from six overs so far. Compatriot Kyle Abbott has the unusual experience of coming on as second change, but Hampshire have been unable to add to their two early wickets, with Ryan Patel 21 not out and Rory Burns on 19.

  17. WICKET Hameed c Wheater b Wagner 5published at 12:11 British Summer Time 9 June 2018

    Lancashire 28-3 (15.3 overs) v Essex

All over for Haseeb Hameed at Old Trafford as a change of bowling does the trick.

Lancashire old boy Neil Wagner, Haseeb's team-mate during that golden summer of 2016, has him caught behind by Adam Wheater, trying to drop his hands at a shorter ball that swung away. The whole innings lasted 59 minutes and 34 balls. But he had been looking solid.

It's now down to skipper Liam Livingstone and the ageless Shivnarine Chanderpaul (actually, he'll be 44 in August) to batten down the hatches.

  18. WICKET Jennings c Lawrence b Porter 19published at 12:04 British Summer Time 9 June 2018

    Lancashire 26-2 (14.1 overs) v Essex

Jamie Porter strikes again as Keaton Jennings is caught in the gully.

Haseeb Hameed is still there though and battling, having plundered his first boundary of the day in the previous over. It's actually his first in the Championship since 21 April, against Essex at Chelmsford.

  19. Notts keep it tightpublished at 12:03 British Summer Time 9 June 2018

    Somerset 32-0 (15 overs) v Nottinghamshire

Apologies for the cliche but it is attritional stuff at taunton, where Somerset have been finding it very hard to score against leaders Notts.

Only one run comes from four overs before Matt Renshaw breaks the shackles by superbly whipping Luke Fletcher away to the mid-wicket boundary. Fletcher, though, has very tidy figures of 0-11 from eight overs with the new ball so far.

  20. Slow going in Manchesterpublished at 11:56 British Summer Time 9 June 2018

    Lancashire 22-1 (13 overs) v Essex

Testing time for Haseeb Hameed at Old Trafford as he battles to get his career back on its proper flight path.

After his astonishing emergence in 2016, the young Bolton lad regressed last year, losing his England place - which eventually led this season to the loss of his Lancashire place too.

It has so far not gone much better in Championship cricket for him. 35 runs in six innings. And today, coming in at number three just three overs into the day, has meant for slow, watchful progress. One single from 28 balls. But it was that sort of patience and Boycott-like ability to grind out a score which earned him four centuries and got him noticed in the first place. So here's hoping.

At the other end meanwhile, Lancashire's current England opener Keaton Jennings has got to 19.
