    Mullaney 90, Fletcher 13

Imran Qayyum with his final over.

A play and a miss from Luke Fletcher, and the bails are whipped off. But he's in his crease.

Then Fletcher turns one round the corner to the long on boundary for a single. Steven Mullaney plays the same shot for another single.

Fletcher smashes the final ball away for a four, with one bounce, to salvage a few runs from the over.

    Qayyum ends with 10-0-45-2.

  2. Notts 192-6published at 44 overs

    Mullaney 89, Root 8

A big heave from Luke Fletcher sends the ball to the long-on boundary for a single.

Steven Mullaney then crashes a four towards long off, the next one he smashes towards midwicket for two runs.

The skipper finishes Harry Podmore's over with another two. He has one over left.

A big six overs coming up. You'd think that Mullaney needs to stay the course to get a defendable total.

After sending the first ball of Imran Qayyum's over for four, Billy Root gets a bit too excited and drives straight to the safe hands of Heino Kuhn.

A valuable partnership is broken, and Luke Fletcher is the next man at the crease.

This could be an opportunity for Kent to wrap the innings up quickly, with the bowler on strike.

  9. Notts 168-5published at 40 overs

    Mullaney 77, Root 37

Harry Podmore's first ball is short and hit in the air, before dropping just short of the man on the short leg boundary. His hands go to his head as Steven Mullaney goes through for a single.

Mullaney pushes another to the cover boundary for a single.

Then a massive swing from Billy Root picks up an inside edge, but it falls short of Billings behind the stumps. Next ball he pulls one away for four. He cuts the final ball to the extra cover boundary for a single.

  10. Notts 160-5published at 39 overs

    Mullaney 75, Root 31

This Notts partnership have really wrestled a bit of momentum back after coming together at 93-5.

Steven Mullaney has been impressive, with a real captain's innings so far.

Each batsman gets two singles off Matt Henry's eighth over.

At the other end, Harry Podmore is about to come back on.

  11. Notts 156-5published at 38 overs

    Mullaney, 73, Root 29

Joe Denly completes his 10 overs and has done a pretty solid job for Kent - rattling through his overs and keeping it fairly tight.

Root drives to long on for a single, Mullaney then repeats the same stroke for another single.

Root comes down the pitch buts clips to wide long on. In the end, six runs come off the over.

Denly finishes with figures of 10-1-42-0.

Steven Mullaney has been outstanding for Nottinghamshire. He's rotated the strike and found the boundary on occasions.

If Notts are going to post a sizeable total then he needs to stay there for the bulk of the remaining overs.

  13. Notts 150-5published at 37 overs

    Mullaney 70, Root 26

Kent's Matt HenryImage source, Getty Images

A bowling change, as Matt Henry returns to the fold for his second spell in the attack.

The pace man had figures of 1-10 off his first six overs.

Root drives his first delivery to cover for a single, the third ball of the over beats the bat of Mullaney but goes straight through to the keeper.

The next is on target, and the Notts skipper drives it away. Dot ball.

Then he opens up, and cracks away square of the wicket for two runs. Then he guides one down to third man to take a single and keep the strike.

    The 150 is up.

  14. Notts 146-5published at 36 overs

    Mullaney 67, Root 25

Steven Mullaney tries to heave a delivery from Joe Denly to cow corner, and gets away with it as the ball is cut backwards of square.

Billy Root sends a ramp shot down fine leg for a single.

Mullaney drives another one straight, but Denly is alert to drive to his right and stop it

The Kent man is happy with that, with just two runs off the over.

  15. Notts 144-5published at 35 overs

    Mullaney 66, Root 24

Imran Qayyum dives to stop a couple of deliveries either side of Steven Mullaney guiding one to deep cover.

Root brings out his reverse sweep again, but there is no run. Anther dot ball to end the over and Billy Root kicks the dirt in frustration.

  16. Notts 143-5published at 34 overs

    Mullaney 65, Root 24

This is a decent partnership from these two, as they work Joe Denly around the field

After a drive by Mullaney to long-on, Billy Root then gets a couple before pulling out another reverse sweep for four, beating fine leg.

Root sends the next one to deep cover for a single, Mullaney goes to long-on before a dot ball ends the over.

That's the 50 partnership up for the sixth wicket.

This is a really important phase for the Outlaws if they want to get up to a target that they can defend.

Billy Root, as the last recognised batsman, needs to find a way to get up and running and follow the lead of his partner, Steven Mullaney.

  18. Notts 134-5published at 33 overs

    Mullaney 63, Root 17

Billy Root attempts a reverse sweep, but it is onto his pads off his bat. Imran Qayyum then sends a ball down the leg side for a wide.

After a dot ball, this time Root does successfully execute his reverse sweep for three runs.

Steven Mullaney finishes with a driven single to long off.

  20. Notts 128-5published at 32 overs

    Mullaney 61, Root 14

The pace of Kent's spin overs has slowed slightly, as Joe Denly takes his time with this one.

Root plays into the offside, Mullaney pushes one back to the bowler, plays round the corner straight to a fielder.

Then he drives up towards long off, and gets a single.

Denly ends with a dot ball as Root can't cut the ball past backward point.
